I rock the comet BNC-W100RX 3:47 on my hackrf portapack and it's awesome. Albeit a little heavy and you need an SMA to BNC converter but you don't have to worry about your threading going bad.🤙🏾
So Josh, in theory, could you make a long homemade antenna, secure it to a drone & fly it straight up high for further reach? If the radio watts are high enough? Short term obviously based on battery life of drone
Anyone cover good HAM quality antennas for Meshtastic? I'm not saying I know the ones out there are bad... but they all feel like cheap wifi antennas and don't give much confidence...

Considering "gain" has a directional component, how does an omnidirectional antenna have any?
They do indeed radiate in specific directions. Verticals have a pattern that does apply more gain in specific directions.

HAM operators have been suspending antennas under kites and balloons for a long time now. Lot's of good information out there.
