- Sometimes we fly sloppy. Maybe it's because we haven't flown in a while. Or maybe we just have bad habits. Sometimes those bad habits are hard to break. Especially when you don't even know you have a bad habit. This is where Procedural Excellence comes to play. Realizing that your professionalism could use a boost is the first step. Forming new habits takes time and dedication to checklists and airmanship. I was told over the radio that I wasn't using the right phraseology. I'll be working on my next flights to correct that.
We enjoyed this video. We will continue to enjoy them all. We wish you a good day.😆😆😆
Thank you! You too!
@Freedomfixer_Flying great video!! Keep em coming. Happy flying 😎
Thanks. I've got a couple cool ones coming. And the Northwest Aviation Expo coming in a few weeks. There a guest speaker I'm really looking forward to attending.
Great video, Topher! A very good reminder that practice makes for better piloting. Those wheel landings were pure butter, very impressive! Hoping for dryer weather so we can all get out there and commit some aviating again!!
Hey Thanks, Botched the one coming back home however. Tried to put her down too soon. And Definitely need to get some better weather. Shelia needs the water wrung out. My hangar is horrible this time of the year. It's almost as if she's out on the ramp!
Enjoyed the video and the topic. Procedural Excellence and professionalism, something that all pilots should review. It's a rainy day here at the beach, I'm thinking it's a a good time to review my flights and nit pick to clean things up. As viewers we also have to understand how much time goes into editing and not all procedures/checklists and radio calls make the final cut. Thanks for the ride along!
You have no idea how wet it is here right now. The condensation in the hangar is so bad I might as well leave Shelia outside! I've kept learning the art of editing and the biggest thing is letting go of that amazing shot with the water and mountains in the background... Alas it does nothing for the story. That's probably my biggest lesson, cutting what needs to be cut! But the first thing is the audio!!! Cheers.
At first I thought the "we are" guy was being a douche. But the more I listened the more I thought that the use of the term "we" implied multiple aircraft. For those of us whose airport has multiple RVs it is quite common for two or more aircraft in the pattern to be flying, landing, taking off, in formation. Hence, when I hear "we" I assume multiple aircraft in formation.
There is no need for "we". Just drop that word completely. It communicates the same thing, is shorter, and avoids other concerns for multiple aircraft in formation. Also, linguistically it makes no sense. I enjoy your videos.
"We" Definition
Used by a speaker to refer to himself or herself and one or more other people considered together.
"shall we have a drink?"
Used to refer to the speaker together with other people regarded in the same category.
"nobody knows kids better than we teachers do"
people in general.
"we should eat as varied and well-balanced a diet as possible"
Used in formal contexts for or by a royal person, or by a writer or editor, to refer to himself or herself.
"in this section we discuss the reasons"
Used condescendingly to refer to the person being addressed.
"how are we today?"
Yeah I was taken aback when he said it. But in hindsight he was correct. A lot of Aviation things don't really make sense. But I believe that ATC refers to communications as they are addressing the call sign, not the occupants or the aircraft. In regards to a "flight" ATC calls are to all the members of the flight, as a whole. Looking back saying "WE" over the radio makes the transmission sound intellectually challenged, for a better word. I know it's a little technicality but details do matter. I know when I talk to ATC the respond to me better when I sound professional. There have been numerous times they have accommodated me especially at PAE when they hear me and, or my call sign. They recognize me and seem to give me priority knowing I'll follow their requests. Thanks for the input.
