What’s up Tonkamaniacs!!! Check this updated version of my backhoe collection with an awesome new addition! Watch to hear my Tonka Tidbits on these cool diggers!!
Again, Tonka called these “backhoes”, because the term was originally used to refer to excavators configured to dig in a backwards motion (as opposed to a shovel which does so with a forward motion), before it was used as a shorter term for a backhoe loader.
@@mightytonkamadness there are a ton of great train channels on UA-cam. Some have invested a lot of money other’s like me are more basic compared to some layouts that are extravagant. The model train community is a pretty good group and always willing to help.
@@LuisUrbieta agreed! Most Tonka designs were loosely based on equipment of the original design time period and then of course modified for ease of the stamping process I’m sure
@@mightytonkamadnessBut are these models based off any prototype? By modern standards standards these models are not as cool & I'd like to see some current Tonka models.
@@LuisUrbieta I only collect vintage Tonkas from the early 2000s and older. Most new tonka toys are just all plastic and not as cool for my tastes. Though they did just release some new throwbacks with some awesome retro boxes that i plan to get soon from the Tonka Steel Classics line.
Hi this is Allen from westlock Alberta Canada how are you I got the 6 wheel backhoe mine is a darker green and my track backhoe is identical except the decal is a red oval I paid 170 plus 56 for shipping very nice shape was hard to find a nice one also mine has both yellow rubber handles anyway take care
@@allenwoycechowsky1297 hi Allen thanks for watching! Oh that’s cool you have the first year crawler backhoe. Even more impressive to get one up in Canada. I know how hard it can be to find things local up there from some friends and how expensive it can be to ship.
The first Mighty Backhoe you have is exactly like mine! That’s actually an ‘84-‘88, the ‘83 ones had a locking mechanism for the arm, similar to the Crawler Backhoe.
@@davydigger708 yes you’re right I forgot to mention the early ones with the locking mechanism. The catalogs show it in 83-88 but you almost never see one with it. Forgot all about it 🤦♂️🙂
@@mightytonkamadness I did the research already - it took a while, but it appears that only the '83 had it. There is also another variation of the '83 that had MR-970 tires as opposed to XMB-975 (probably an early run or using leftover parts).
@@davydigger708 I’ve seen some mixers of that era with MR 970 tires as well. At first I thought it was custom but then I saw multiple like that so maybe it was a thing in the 83s. They look weird with them though. Too small

@@sylvainburelle9102 thank you! Yes the ertl stuff is from childhood. All late 80s thru early 2000s. No i haven’t gotten into matchbox and wheels.
