Thank you. Studying Nagarjuna and the Yogacara in my Buddhist group and have been searching for some outside information to gain a wider perspective, as provided by your video. A subject of interest that has just become known to me, is early non-canonical Buddhist texts and there are a lot of studies done on these, such as from Alex Wynne and others and I would be very interested to see a video presentation on these if you have the means to put one together. Offer some interesting insights that most mainstream studies don't. Much Metta

A “drone overview “ of this rugged landscape that is define as Buddhism through the ages. Complex but the presenter with his bullet points does an excellent 3 hour scholarly presentation. Much information on the philosophical schools of Indian Buddhism.

Hi, Javier. Thank you for the coherent presentation of so much of Buddhist history. You've said that Asanga and Vabubandhu criticized a form/interpretation of Madhyamaka as being nihilistic. I've never read the Vimsatika or the Boddhisatvabhumi. How is Madhyamaka criticized there? Do they refer to Nagarjuna for ex.? Do you have the excerpts to show us?

I've attended some classes with Karl Brunnholzl and was convinced that actually there is no contradiction between Madhyamaka and Yogachara. But I'd be curious to understand better how was that seen from the perspective of the founders of Yogachara themselves.

Check out Madhyamaka and Yogacara, Allies or Rivals (2015), especially chapter 4. Also, look up this paper on google (it will come up) - King, Richard, Early Yogācāra and its Relationship with the Madhyamaka School.

Vedic Saddarshan also criticize Madhyamika for nihilism despite Madhyamika making clear their rejection of nihilism and essentialism/eternalism.

@@luisisrael15 Well Santaraksita was the major synthesizer of the two schools, which is now the predominant Mahayana position. But the Yogacara were opposed to Madhyamika because of it's seemingly nihilism and Madhyamika opposed Yogacara because it seemed to be saying that Vijnana (consciousness) was fundamental, and since Madhyamika rejects anything fundamental (including emptiness) it was rejected.
One passage paraphrased from Santaraksita was something like, "We know from Mind Only that objects have no standalone existence, and from Madhyamika we know mind also doesn't " or something like that.

There was no vedic religion before Buddha which is backed by no archaeological evidence. What you're talking about is proto avestan religion, there is no evidence of Vedic age.
