The 32c “flag over porch” is one of my favorite designs and has a TON of varieties too. W/A, S/A, coils, booklets, 3 different dates and different color and size varieties on some the dates as well. It’s enough to make you dizzy.

The other day I received a lovely card and a mint sheet of the "Life Magnified" stamps from a friend. It was totally unexpected, and so thoughtful. It just made my day! I don't collect recent stamps, but that issue is getting framed. It's gorgeous! I really need to get better at sending people mail. It's a nice and happy thing to do:)

I loved the detail about the flag series - I was given a huge pile of stamps from this era and was aware of some of the differences but was blown away that a modern stamp has so many variations. Very fun to collect and not expensive :)
I think I pulled all those stamps off of mail from back then. I have similar piles of other stamps waiting for the catalog to shake out so I can go through those. So, those were all free to me.

I always check the trash at the local post office and save whatever I can tear off. sometimes I'm lucky and find some plate number singles which i have filled a few stock book pages of. sometimes some nice commemoratives of foreign. have a small box of forever to get off paper but as you mentioned every issue seems to have a ton of different prints and varieties

The USPS must have been on a bender to create complication as the 2 cent Navajo stamps have 4 varieties - coloration, year and microprint or its absence are factor differentiating them (as well as the type of die cut) One of the Navajo 2 cent stamps are scarce. And as another commenter stated other Flag stamps issues around this time had many varieties which a collector could easily pursue acquiring for years. The 2022 Flag stamp coil I sent you has about 6 designs and there were three plate numbers issued for booklets and coils. So even with this recent set, there are about 10 varieties of the 2022 Flag stamp. One of the varieties is scarce Scott 5657 with plate number starting with P2.
Indeed, imagine the care that someone had to take when these first came out. I do know that some of them are released in different formats--sheets, booklets of different sizes, coil lengths--so that's a start.

You got a smorgasbord of stamps, Ken. Enjoyed to discover them with you. Especially your German stamps were nicely boosted. I cannot add much of value. It was interesting to see the many variations of that relatively new USA flag stamps. They are not complicated to identify, except maybe the perforation counting, but one needs to know that there are so many variations, otherwise one will just miss them altogether. Well, you know how kind collectors can be. I got all those flag stamps off mail sent to me--mostly junk mail. I suspect there is a similar stamp that you get dozens of in the mail in NZ.
@@KensStampCollection I am busy to sort some of the larger lots of stamps. Progressing well. In the New Zealand lots some of the stamps have heaps of duplicates. I am looking forward so much to find varieties of those. I never got mail per se in New Zealand. Here for too short a time, and get a few official mail, but they don't have stamps on them. Ken, hello from Denmark. I really enjoy your videos. Have you given a presentation (that I haven't been able to locate) ranking the top (or recommended top) most popular/profitable or valuable countries to collect stamps from. I inherited a massive world collection that I only have the time to focus on and continue to collect a handful of countries. I would like some ideas as to which of the approx. 200 countries, what are the top 10 countries to focus on if you don't have enough time to continue collecting for all the countries in the world that have stamps available for collectors.
Such a good idea! I barely think about resale value. In general, I advise against stamps as an investment. Others disagree. That said, I think you'd be good to collect either in a region that has a strong market: US, France, UK, Germany, etc. That's likely to retain some value stability. Or, you could be more speculative and buy chic areas like Ukraine or countries that have just started up, or have recently ceased to exist. That's speculative, but the market hasn't decided on a price yet. On the other hand, given the collection you have in hand, you could pick a country that calls to you and see where it takes you. Then add on others as they call to you to explore them. There's no need to dispose of what you have, but no need to buy more for the countries that haven't called your name yet. Might I suggest you start with Denmark?

I want to continue the collection but as with most Scandinavians, I am very much a minimalist with material possessions and space. I guess I'll figure out how to store the 33 stamp albums and focus on what appeals to me most. Maybe I am looking for an easy way to quickly reduce the volume of the collection while maximizing that which has value and keeping it. Again, thank you Ken. @@KensStampCollection
I think you shud dig on that 1c green Franklin 1903 stamp on a post card . Would be good content.Recently on ebay some sold for more than $1.000...labelled as rare on a postcard but plenty similar are available??
Fascinating -- I've looked into these high priced common stamps before. Just looked and only found one of these that actually sold. I'm surprised there was even one. There are two theories about these listings. First, is that sellers put a high price on placeholder listings that they aren't ready to sell yet. The second is that there is some kind of illegal money transfer going on. I can't find real evidence of this, but the idea is that two people want to transfer a large payment for something illegal. One of them posts a nonsense item for a really high price. Nobody else would ever buy it, but the other party is willing to buy it to have a legal way of sending the money.
Thanks, Ken. By chance, recently purchased a LOT of 500+ of the 37 cent flags and was hoping for your help PRIOR TO posting this video. So far have separated by perforation (sheet, booklet, coil). On to the dates, various Micro presences and (apparently, now) water activation. From the sample, my "statistical analysis" indicates booklets > coils > sheets (as far as) four perforated borders...
Oh fantastic -- I'd agree that booklets>coils>sheets. If you read my blog article on this and have recommendations to make it better, let me know. Have fun sorting those, and share what you find! I don't think you really need the microprint to figure these out, but it can help confirm the subtle perforation differences.
What an excellent question. The US has used different kinds of adhesive over the years. All these flag stamps soak off the paper in water without a problem. But, you are aware that other self adhesive stamps have glue that doesn't soak off the paper with water, indeed, some stamps even soak off the top layer of paper leaving the rest of the stamp behind. Fortunately these flag stamps come off easily. But, it's always good to do a test soak of self-adhesive stamps before soaking a whole lot.

@KensStampCollection The USPS has estimated a loss of over $100,000,000 in revenue last year.....yes, you read that number right. The stamps are being printed in China, and sold at a discounted face mostly on Ebay. Any modern forever stamps sold at discount are counterfeit.......just an easy rule of thumb.
It is odd to me that much of your mail is not cancelled. Is it really common with #10 envelopes do you think? Aren't those going through machine cancel anymore?

Apparently, they use a square frame to indicate that the stamp is genuine and round frame to indicate the cancel is genuine. I love them.

You should also do a video about how much these stamps are being counterfeited......mostly affecting forever flag stamps. It is a huge issue.

The other rule of thumb - if it seems to good to be true, it isn't. By the way, $100m is 1 stamp per household per year.

It seems that most stamped mail doesn’t get cancelled these days. It’s a shame for collectors because it makes a stamp worse than used.
