Thanks for the video. Prompted me to run out and grab some blueberries as they are in season and cheap right now. I modified your instructions slightly. 1/ Opted to delay adding in the vanilla until after juice was at room temp as I make my own and love the vanilla flavor. 2/ Calculated approximately how much water needed at the start to arrive at the finish proof and added when juice was cool. 3/ Put everything in a cheesecloth, tied and hung over a bowl to strain. Did not compress the cheesecloth (old jelly trick to ensure juice is clear and not cloudy). Simply let the juice strain until it stops. 4/ Measured the amount of resulting juice. Calculated amount of shine needed to add to arrive at final proof. Tastes amazing. Thank you for the recipe and motivating me to give it a try! Another tip... don't throw out the blueberry remnants. Take the remnants from the cheesecloth and gently mix with another cup or two of fresh blueberries along with a bit more sugar. Toss into a baking dish cover with a mixture of oats, flour, sugar and make a blueberry cobbler. Another tip... save the blueberry soaked cinnamon sticks, dry and grind into a powder. Mix with a little sugar and sprinkle on toast. Blueberry cinnamon is yum!
@@stillworksandbrewing Well, that idea does not work! The blueberries are so full of tiny seeds the only good solution seems to time and as broad a filtered surface are as possible as the filter medium gets clogged up pretty quickly! Gentle scraping away the seeds helps too. Initial tastings are great! Waiting for it to cool and meld a bit - it will be well tested tonight.
So could u use frozen blueberries instead and would u do the same recipe with them or something different ? I enjoy your videos and I have followed and made some of the recipes they are so easy. Thank You Tom Doyen Minnesota
Frozen blueberries should work just fine as he is simmering his. Being from frozen, the berries will give up their flavor a little faster from the ice crystals piercing through them. If fresh frozen, you should be able to do exact recipe with same result...depending on your shine base. :) Might be worth tinkering with a high rye & corn based shine for a little more floral and peppery notes too.
😂😂 did I hear u say pit in the Strawberry Syrup? Am I hitting my brew or you and I'm hearing things? I would of put the water in the "Strawberry" Syrup bowl to extract all in the bowl then added to your pot. I too have an Old Smoky jar someone gave me to enjoy that I use in my runs. What is the final ABV or Proof, 25%-50prf?

Thanks for yet again another fine video.
Awesome I’ll have to try that one looks great
HELL YEAH,, Randy may as well do one to 👍
Very cool video Randy, Thank you
I add some lemon juice to mine cut down on some of the sweetness, nice summer drink.
Perfect!
Could u use like two coffee filters instead of cheese cloth or just strain it though a large striner?
Thanks
Tom Doyen
Next time I will use screen first then cheese cloth
Looks easy, and great! Consider 'sparging' your berries with the shine and/or water. No sense having any of that goodness go to waste!
@@danthemann great idea thanks
