It is a little easier if you file the end of the paperclip into a sharp wedge shape before pushing it though. This tip was figured out after making the video. Hope it helps!
It worked but it was not easy. I did this on the Magpul CTR. The hole the paper clip has to go thru is partially obstructed. I had to point the paper clip down which means the paper clip had to go up on the other side. I slightly bent the paper clip and by rotating it, it finally came thru the other hole! It was well worth the effort. I looked at buying other "solutions" that cost from $30 to $40 and were mostly out of stock. This is so much better. Thank you!
We figured out after making this video that filing a wedge shape into the end of the paperclip using a fingernail file helps it "cut" past that spring much easier. Glad it worked for you! And thanks for the feedback. Hopefully in CA we can win the Miller case and then throw our paperclips in the trash!
Not ANY Magpul stock, but most of them. All the ones that have the round cross-bar (except the new DT and PR stocks) can be done this way. So for example, MOE, CTR, STR, ACS, ACS-L, SL, SL-K, SL-M, (not the SL-S which has completely different internals). You can kind of tell by looking at a side view photo... if you see a small hole where a paperclip can pass through, it will work. By the way, the SL-S with the completely different internals is actually easier to do, and all you need is a T10 torx wrench and nothing else. magpul.com/firearm-accessories/stocks.html
Thank you so much for this information, I live in communist new jersey so I have to have my stock pinned or I go to jail so this was way better than ruining my brand new stock and buffer tube
Awesome! We also like the Magpul stocks with the locking levers (ie. CTR, STR) for that reason (hiding the paper clip). It is a clean and easy way to lock it.
@@dennisteran3031 The CTR shown in the video, and any other Magpul stock that has a second "locking" lever that keeps the stock from wiggling. BUT, also Magpul has a new stock that use a sheet metal piece instead of a round pin, the MOE SL-S. These can be fixed much easier without a paperclip even. We hope to have another video out soon showing that. We do not know at this time if they make other stocks with this sheet metal piece.
This is some large heatshrink tube which requires a heatgun (not a blow dryer). But I have seen some use a short piece of bicycle inner tube which you could probably get an old free one at a local bike store. Here is a thread where a specific inner tube size was mentioned in post #33... www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=1472384
@@sparrowdynamics Flex seal works very well also. Since it is a rubber product, it is soft and comfortable. It comes in different colors. Yeah, I know it is more difficult to remove. lol
If you can put a grip in your cart, then we have it in stock. The website is live inventory. We don't know about the b5 sopmod stock, but I think there are other good videos showing how to pin it.
It might possibly work with the Strike Industries MOD1 stock because there are small holes through the lever. But on a Magpul stock the bent part of the paperclip is in a recessed area where it is impossible to grab it without a tool (which is one aspect that might be important for compliance). It looks like you might be able to remove the paperclip without a tool on the SI stock... we don't know for sure because we don't have one to test. Also, please consider buying a stock made in USA. The Magpul SL-S stock has an even easier way to pin it (video coming soon), and here is a link for pinning a BCM MOD-0 stock that is pretty easy too. ua-cam.com/video/ewT0hQHLtRg/v-deo.html
Magpul CTR. This also works with MOE adjustable stocks. The SL-K can be fixed even easier than this just by removing a couple screws and dropping a pin out, then replacing the screws. We will try to get to that video some day.
Because the onerous laws in CA say that an adjustable stock on a centerfire semiauto rifle with a detachable magazine is an AW. Separating the upper from the lower makes it not semiauto and therefore not an "AW". According to California Code of Regulations, Title 11, Division 5, Chapter 39 Assault Weapons and Large-Capacity Magazines, Article 2, § 5471, (3)

Paperclip lock works! Big props to sparrow for sharing 👍👍
Awesome! Glad it worked for you!
Took 1min to install. Best fixed stock idea ever.
Awesome! Glad we were able to help.
Genius. Fixed stock in less than 5 minutes and won’t budge.
Wow I was just looking at your grips because I am converting to featureless but saw this. Great idea. Definitely gonna purchase your grip now as well.
Glad we could help, and we appreciate your support!
Best fix I’ve seen yet. Thanks, great vid.

Thank you so much! Was just about to spend $40 on a cross stock lock
Awesome, saved a lot of people a good 5-100 bucks
Thanks! Just trying to do our part to help deal with these unconstitutional laws.
You are a genius! Thanks. Done in less than 5 mins.
Thanks for helping CA. Deal with illegal gun laws 🌝
Great idea! Thanks for sharing! Just ordered one of your grips. Looks like a great work around.

Yup do what sparrow said and file the paper clip first with sandpaper. I tried for 30 minutes with no luck, filed it and got it first try
Works.

would this work on a b5?
Possibly. We don't know the diameter of the pin on the B5.
I can’t find the tactical paper clips for sale on your website.
Can in here to post this
I found tactical paper clips on Ebay. They are only $50 each, but I had to buy a whole box. I'll sell you one if you want.
I just did this with my SL-S stock

Yes it is the CTR, but many types of Magpul stocks work with this "fix".
