    The reason the light faces rearward is so it doesn’t blind you at night. It’s smart

    Santiago I’m 6 months in with this opener and am very pleased. I got it for $240 from Lowe’s and for my needs it checked every box. I just couldn’t justify moving up to the model with dual leds for $50-$60 more. I had to take a real hard look at what I needed and where it was going and this model was a good fit. My obervations : pieced rail is sturdy . I would rather gone for a 1 piece rail but where I am there are no places to get one and the fact they are over the length limit for fedex/ups makes truck freight roughly 4 times the price of the rail itself. Plastic housing: no problems here. I wiped it down after install and all is still looking good. Overall I don’t think this is as bad as you are making it out. I understand that the divergence of the build materials and styles versus the Liftmaster line is probably causing you headaches when trying to sell a homeowner but in my experience this unit works fine.

      Hello Dr Benway! Thank you for this excellent perspective of the B4613T. I will admit that I do give this motor a hard time. Like the title of the video and thumbnail says, I was just unimpressed with this motor. Is it cheaper? Yes. Is the rail still good? Yes. Will the one piece rail offer a better experience on this motor? NO, not anymore. I posted a video two ago about the changes they implemented that changed the experience.
      The truth is at the $250 price point that this motor averages I feel most homeowners should have a perspective from a garage door contractor about it. It will still offer a reliable experience. It is miles better than some of the noname motors that dealer contractors offer. Again, this video simply points out my unimpressed opinions of it. Thank you again for excellent feedback. Stay safe!

    You do have some strange obcession with these polycarbonate chassises... As for the light, I think the priority should be the way that Chamberlain did it. If the light is going to be directional, then it shouldn't be shining in your eyes, but rather lighting up what you're driving into (or rather, trying to avoid driving into - like the back wall of the garage).

    It's mediocre because it lacks some gimmicky features.. And it gets dusty... It's a garage dude.. And it does it's job just fine.

    I appreciate the video, but I'm surprised you gave no mention at all about the MyQ feature, which is excellent. The app is pretty much bug-free and saves having to install an outside Keypad. The motor is much quieter than most models and I wouldn't want the LED on the front as it would be blinding when driving in at night. Thanks for the time you've put into this.

    No motion sensor on the Chamberlain B4613T? That's news to me. I bought one of these from Home Depot on 9/08/22 and installed it two days later. The wall mount controller on mine has a motion sensor and it works fine for automatically turning on the opener light. I also like that the light faces the wall instead of the garage door. It's not shining in my face when I pull into the garage and it adds better lighting when I walk in there from my house for something. In your video when you are trying to show how loud the motor is, that level of sound would only be distracting if someone was sleeping in the garage. It sounded pretty quiet to me and the motor on mine is not loud at all, certainly much more quiet than the 10-12 year old chain drive Craftsman opener I replaced. I spent several hours researching different brands and models before I decided on the B4613T. The motion sensor, quiet belt drive, MyQ app compatibility, battery backup, decent overall customer review ratings and a reasonable price are just some of the things that led me to my choice. It has some good features without becoming too gimmicky which can lead to failure. The lifetime warranty on the motor and belt is nice and shows that Chamberlain isn't afraid to stand behind their products. I wish it had Alexa compatibility but I'll just move my Nexx garage door controller from my old Craftsman over to my Chamberlain and that should solve that concern. Easy two-wire hook-up and no monthly fee. BTW, the Chamberlain B6753T that you recommended at the end of your video doesn't come with a wireless keypad; the B4613T does. ;-)

    Do not agree with faulting the orientation of the light away from the door. The risk on entry is going too far into the garage so the end of travel is what this unit illuminates which I see as the priority for clarity. It seems to me you are straining pretty hard to find fault.

      Hello. Thank you for the feedback. As the title says, I am simply unimpressed with this motor. Chamberlain has 5 variants of the model. They could have just kept this line up simple and offered a 1 LED, 2 LED, and 2 LED with a camera variant. It's clear their goal here with their 5 motor offerings is to acquire market share. Again, that is just my professional opinion. I realize for most it will be a non-issue. I do think it's a good motor. I just wouldn't own it.

    I bought one of these and had it installed in May, 2022. It is now April of 2023, and I am sitting on hold waiting for a response from a supervisor at Chamberlain because the opener has malfunctioned sporadically for the past year since being installed. Customer service has been less than helpful so far. Definitely would NOT recommend - not this model, nor any other from Chamberlain based on my experience.

    Glad I watched this. I have two chamberlain openers at my house I have loved them for the last two years. I really like the motion sensor and screen on the button. I thought this would have the same feature but you mention they eliminated the motion senor. That's a bummer as it comes in really handy when your going out to the garage really fast and the light just comes on automatically.

    • @sosgds

      The B4613T initially shipped w/o motion sensing, but Chamberlain fixed that at it now includes yet. I saw in another UA-cam review that people that purchased it w/o it got the upgraded wall switch from Chamberlain for free.

    Sounds like he just wanted to say something negative just to say it.. it collects dust? feels cheap? Who feels their garage opener after they install it? it has a ledge? Has a lot of parts? You want the light pointed on top of the garage door when it opens instead of towards the garage? Louder than normal but no decibel readings? Hmm.. 😂 didn’t talk about the connectivity features..

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Рік тому

      This is great feedback. I have thought about the very same thing with a decibel reader. I also wanted to return to some of my old installs to see how this motor has held up. Truth be told, I thought this motor had no place in the Chamberlain line up. Thus the negativity comes from my frustration of customers wanting this motor installed over the more robust B6753T. At any rate I do plan on doing a follow up video about this motor.

    How can I know what horse power do I need??

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Рік тому +1

      Excellent question. These new motors are DC powered. Thus the HP you see on the box is just marketing terms to help these big box stores sell different tiers of motors. If you garage door is properly balanced you should be ok with any of these retail motors.

    The plastic housings remind me of the old gray LiftMaster screwdrives that is held up by the single bolt in the center (if your garage guy, you know) where if you touch the outside housing wrong it could end up like Humpty Dumpty and never go back together again. I hope the plastic now holds up better to the heat and time.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  2 роки тому

      Hello Justin! Thank for this excellent feedback! You're spot about that older plastic on LiftMaster motors. You almost needed hands of a surgeon to replace a logic board on those old SDR1000 or 2000 screw drive motors. The plastic housing inside was just to frail and would break easily. I also home these newer motors will work better. Stay safe!

      Hello. It depends on two thins:
      1. Would you like more lighting?
      2. Will you be installing this on your own?
      The Craftsman motor comes with a couple of bulbs that are 800 lumens each which will give you more lighting than on the Chamberlain product. Yet the Chamberlain motor offers easier instructions on how to install. The manual that comes with the Craftsman motor can be a little daunting. Either way if you're just looking for a motor that'll get the job done with no frills then I don't think the Craftsman is worth an additional $100.
