@ 9:25 Joe Lebo ran that unloader, he ran it from day one until they retired it 40 years later. He retired the same day. His retirement was the impetus for retiring the unloader. There were better machines on the market by then and nobody was interested in learning Joe's job. They all wanted to sit inside warm and dry.
Weyerhauser was running test on 15,20,25 year trees when I worked at mill in 90's I think they really messed up with their High yield trees they grow fast. But growth rings 1 to 1.5.inches.not tight like old growth 😐
Yeah, I've tried to hunt those sportsmans paradises they leave. A deer might get through, but the ground was so torn up, I gave up after a couple hundred yards.
Watching them cut and drag 400 year old trees makes me feel sick on the inside. Nothing like killing the worlds best and biggest air filters. Yet my Jetta tdi is blamed for climate change..... ya okay then
The small trees in the film are probably being harvested today. Great renewable resource when managed correctly.
Those were harvested long ago. Trees I planted myself in 1969 were cut and new ones are growing in their place.
Good god those dougs are incredible!
The scene at 7:30 with the Willamette skidder is cool stuff!
outstanding!!!

Sounds like they cared about the environment waaaaaay back then. Look how beautiful the land is in this film.
I remember watching this as a youngster before eating my tofu and broccoli dinner.
Its 2023 and now we have a really big sasquatch problem in Oregon. Just say'n.
