An old girlfriend lived across the street from Fonthill so we spent alot of time exploring the property in the early 70's. On occasion we also talked with Laura Long, his assistant who lived on the property at the time. I also later lived across the street behind the estate for a few years and biked through it often. Great job capturing what the place is all about. Well done!
houses are way more fun when its like they just kept going "and i want a room for this and a room for that" so they kept sticking them on there wherever and made the roofline match. standardization is for the birds
We recently took the tour and i think I learned more from your video than i did from our tour guide 😅 the only thing is we were told the skull on the mantle was real! It was a gift from his neice to remind him of his own mortality and to live each day to the fullest (that’s what she told us anyway)
the door to the right in the Columbus Room is a bathroom, it does not connect to Rollo's stairs. The Saloon room stairs are connected to the Study, not to the Columbus room
I live down the street and recently started questioning the history of these massive structures. Supposedly 8 men worked 10 hours a day I believe for three years pouring concrete to create the now museum. The crazy part is he designed the castle without architectural plans, only a sketch and he pointed to the man where to pour the concrete. This seems impossible, improbable and a story. The sheer weight of the structure would require an enormous substructure alone. Think of the engineering that would be required to support this massive structure alone, let alone the intricate interior. Could this be replicated today even with our modern equipment? Seems like a made up tale. I wonder how old this place really is and who built it. Just doesn’t sit right with me
So cool and I can’t believe I just found out about this crazy place
13:24 i can picture a drunk guest stumbling down the uneven staircase at night and slamming into the concrete fireplace
LOL! I'm sure it has happened at some point!

I toured the home today. Incredible!
Isn't it just the most amazing place ever?!?
@@petegreendrummer it really is. All those tiles! I especially liked the skull his sister gave him.
A new subscriber has been earned to you by your knack in narration, Pete !
Cool! Thanks so much!
This is right around the corner from where I live! Thank you for sharing this. I'm going to have to your this!

Actually, the house was done BEFORE the tile works.. The original tile works was in another location
That is not Mercer...its Frank Swain. the manager of the Tileworks
I’ve been here but I didn’t get to go inside so thank you for this!! Did you check out the Mercer Museum?
Oh yes! Been to Mercer Museum many times. The building is cool, but they're collection is really impressive!

Again, inaccurate. The skull is real. His sister gave it to him when he graduated as a momento mori ( remember your mortality)
