  • Metric pattern draft for your perfect fit corset 📐. You can apply the information in this video to any corset style. I will demonstrate an Edwardian style mid bust with a straight front and hip gores. this is a lightweight summer garment made predominantly with cotton bobbinet. It features a zipper front closure, with external boning set in bias cut, lightweight coutil tubular channels. The back closure has 6mm brass grommets with a reverse bunny ears standard V shaped lacing pattern. The seams have been worked right sides together to give a smooth and clean finish on the inside. There is a millinery cotton petersham ribbon for the waist stay, and the edges are finished with the same lightweight coutil as used for the boning channels. Please keep in mind, this is not a historic recreation project. The aim of this video is to draft, fit and make a modern supportive garment suitable to everyday summer wear. Did you like the ruffle playsuit 👗 I was wearing under my corset? It’s actually a pair of Edwardian inspired combinations! Draft your own here:

I really love your drafting/sewing videos so much. Like you, I too have a high waist or short torso. When you said your waist was at the bottom of your rib cage, my ears perked up and I thought, here's the corset drafting/sewing tutorial for me. Oh, and I too like the zipper front. I am now headed over to your bodice block tutorial and follow your instruction for a custom block. I am so excited. Thank you so much for all the videos you do. I love your hats, and also love the pattern drafts as well. You are so knowledgeable with fashion, and do I ever need some instruction with that !!!...lol

LOVED this...I learned some new ideas. Great idea using zipper instead of busk. I too am high waisted and high hip and getting a busk small enough is impossible.

Hello Lynette! I am so glad you liked my video! 😊 And yes - short busks can be hard to find! And zippers are great! Make sure you get a zipper that's strong enough. I recommend a brass number 5.

Hello Roxann! Thank you so much! And yes! Are you thinking of making the combinations I wore under the corset too?

@@ByIlonaMillinery Ive already made for myself over the years, 2 Victorian corsets, a pair of Georgian stays, a variety of drawers (yes split ones), and chemises...ive also made 1950's peticoats and shifts. Ive made combinations for my daughter when she was young, when we also had our children do the historical events with us, as well as combination bustled petticoats. Girls underwear clothing in the Bustle period got to be very complex at times. And yes...I self drafted everything. I have wardrobes of every era of historical clothings from Georgian thru to 1950's..and a few 1970's. But an all in one bra/corset is my final frontier...i just have so much else to do ATM! Oh...and dozens of gowns/outfits to wear over them....

Hi, Thank you for this. I am again reminded that math is not my friend, as you basically lost me at the mention of bobbinet and cotil. Doesn't matter at all. I enjoyed it anyway. Nice to see the new shoes from American Duchess in action. At least they looked very much like them. I'm trying to find a way to justify buying them, but haven't found one yet, unfortunately. Yours, Ann

Hi Ann, The shoes are not from American Duchess, they are my dance shoes made by Apple Jacks Shoes from Vienna.

@@ByIlonaMillinery Hi, It's fantastic how similar they look. From the angle I saw them they looked very much like their new Lilith Flapper Sandals. I figured that they might be dance shoes, and I've heard that some dancing people use American Duchess to find shoes. Maybe that's more character shoes situation though. I'm going to Google yours just for the fun of it, as they looked very pretty.
By the way I forgot to complement you on your combinations earlier. They looked so soft and comfy. It was funny how your corset came up today. This is a true story. Last time I trained with my teacher/partner, on Monday, we talked about corsets and I told him about exactly that kind of corset and he was very skeptical to the whole idea. I hope you wouldn't mind if I refer him to this site, so he can see one for himself. Yours, Ann
