The five steps used in EBM are: Ask - Aquire - Appraise - Apply - Assess. (5As)
Traditional reviews fall under the qualitative category.
Meta analysis is quantitative, systematic reviews can both be qualitative and quantitative, although systematic reviews can be quantitative, it doesn't necessarily mean that it should include a meta analysis, as meta analysis is a seperate step in which an analysis is done to the similar outcomes of the research papers included in the systematic review.
1.Ask
2.Aquire
3.Appraise
4.Apply
5.Assess
🔥Traditional review تكون qualitative
🔥systematic review :
Ask, Aquire, Appraise , Apply, Assess
Meta analysis
And it’s a quantitative analysis that is made after SR
- The five steps are: 1- Ask a clear question. 2- Acquire the evidence. 3- Appraise the evidence. 4- Apply the evidence. 5- Assess the outcomes.
- Traditional review is qualitative.
- All meta-analyses are based on systematic reviews, but not all SRs result in MAs because SRs can summarize findings in a qualitative way without conducting a meta-analysis.
The five steps are:
Ask ... Aquire ... Apprais ... Apply ... Assess
1⃣5 steps are ask, acquire, appraise, apply, assess
2⃣ Systematic review is qualitative if meta-analysis is not conducted and qualitative if it is
3⃣ Meta analysis is quantitative assessment of numerical data in the included studies so it must be preceded by qualitative assessment of papers included which is the process of Systematic review
In other words meta-analysis is a systematic review with statistical analysis of data if available in the included studies
Steps foe EBM are
Ask
Acquire
Appraise
Apply
Asses
• As asked in the beginning of the video:
The five steps used in EBM are the 5As: Ask, Acquire, Appraise, Apply, Assess.
• Systematic-Review can be qualitative, that means they may not based on numerical data, but limited to the fact of summarizing eligible studies (as there are inclusion and exclusion criteria). Meta-analysis are quantitative secondary research studies, which are based on the fact of combining similar studies and contrasting them to end in the final form of stastically summarizing them.
The question asked in the video, in which category does the literature reviews secondary research study fall? The answer: Qualitative.
• In the video, it's asked:
All Meta-analysis (MA) are based on Systematic-Reviews (SR), however, the opposite is not necessarily true, how?
If the Systematic-Review is of the qualitative type, it's logical to infer it doesn't involve numerical and stastical analysis. In short, if it's a qualitative SR, it doesn't incule MA.
What are the steps of Evidence-based medicine?
1- Ask (model PICO)
2- Acquire
3- Appraise
4- Apply
5- Asses
Literature review is often qualitative.
Literature review = quantitative
Unfortunately the literature review is considered qualitative analysis
I will explain this this later insha'Allah no worries
Thanks for your efforts
1⃣ The five steps are
Ask: formulate a question PICO
Acquire: search tools
Appraise: appraise the evidence for its validity and applicability
Apply
Assess: evaluation our effectiveness
2️⃣A secondary literature review study falls under the qualitative category.
All Meta-analysis (MA) are based on Systematic-Reviews (SR), however, the opposite is not necessarily true, how?
If the Systematic-Review is of the qualitative type, it's logical to infer it doesn't involve numerical and stastical analysis. In short, if it's a qualitative SR, it doesn't incule MA
Even if the Systematic
Review is quantitative, it is not necessarily required to include a Meta-analysis. This means it is a necessary condition but not a sufficient one ..
