    This crt does not have deflection coils but internal plates which electrostatically atract electrons. And those are led's, they already had them in 1989.

  • @leeh45ks
    @leeh45ks 5 років тому +1

    Oscilloscopes use electrostatic bean deflection voltage potential on internal plates. TV CRT tubes use electromagnetic deflection with external winding (yoke).

    Front to back switching was (is?) a common safe design practice. Basically, it keeps all the mains voltage in one place (e.g. on one pcb) and well away from the front panel controls.

    I have a Hitachi VC-6023 Dual Beam scope of similar vintage to this. I have had it for over 20 years and it was quite old even then. However it still works and is the only scope I own. Back in the 1960's I built a Heathkit oscilloscope, about 3" tube and all valves. In the 1980's I worked with a 68xx development system with a separate twin 8" floppy disc system. When it was thrown out I could have had it but just couldn't lift it! Interesting to see the old stuff, brings back happy memories. Bob

    Hey Electronoobs. Nice channel, great content. This vintage video is interesting. But maybe you could also point out which components may be worth salvaging for usage in further projects (e.g. old stepper motors, when you teardown old scanner or printer, and how can you run them, etc)?

    • @ELECTRONOOBS
      @ELECTRONOOBS  5 років тому +6

      Yes, taht would be interesting, but for a different segment. Maybe "What to salvage" or so... Thanks!

    wave soldered, this was before pick and place or surface mount
    also, LEDs from that era were mostly red, or dim green, no yellow or white
    so the backlight is not LEDs, just regular old filament bulbs

    actually I believe the crt is electrostatic so no deflection coils

    This was good, but I found it to be more of a showcase then a tear down. I was expecting to see some components flying, a little harvesting... that sort of thing.

    I once fixed this old vintage oscilloscope. Took me about 2 days to figure out what was wrong with the scope and it turn out that the electron gun had some worn out components. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with it exactly. Luckily I had another electron gun from another vintage scope so swapped it out and now it's working just fine.

    Getting to know an analog oscilloscope first has - in my opinion - many advantages. It has a true real-time display, no functions that are hidden 3 layers deep in some menu and immediate reaction to all knobs and switches.
    I would have expected something more of a "teardown" video, also the first 2 minutes out of a 10 minute video are dedicated to your sponsor, which was a bit long in this context.

  • @pulesjet

    Those ol Scopes opened many doors of knowledge. I would still welcome a Tektronix 435B I learned on. I would be right at home on that leader scope. I'm sitting here snickering. I would have gone to great lengths to own a scope like that back in the days. It never happened. Simply out of financial reach. I still don't own a decent o Scope.

    Hey electronoobs I really love this channel.. and I've been following it for about a year now.. I was wondering... can you take the ideas/circuits posted on your website and try to create them? That would be a good content for UA-cam don't you agree?

      Hi and thanks for the support. Are you reffering to the circuits other users are posting on electronoobs.io? Because the circuits from electronoobs.com are all already tested in my UA-cam videos! Keep up!
