"The Thing"(1982) is a horror movie masterpiece! This is probably the best science fiction horror movie of all time!
One of my favourites, would I like the 2011 version or is it garbage lol
@benjaminmanchett1507 It's a little bit of garbage, but you can blame its script and the complete interference from Universal Pictures. Originally, it was filled with practical effects by Studio ADI but those dumbasses at Universal Pictures complained that they wanted to use CGI, so they covered all of the practical effects with CGI (a similar mistake they repeated years later with Jurassic World).
This film took so much effort to make. Not like cheap ass CGI nowadays. I come back to it often...has a good atmosphere.
0:43 unused take of Palmer screaming before his transformation, which explains the screaming that was heard before the other men started freaking out.
Not really because while palmer was screaming his body wasn't moving but idk
@Austin Revis I meant that he originally screamed but didn't in the actual movie for whatever reason, although I think the final cut despite being very weird is actually scarier because having him be emotionless to instantly mutating after a quick cut is scarier, and I guess he's a mutation so he doesn't need to actually scream to input a noise I guess.
John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Clive Barker. These guys were the best to do it, and they did it right.
110 percent agree with you or not John Carpenter Wes craven Clyde Barker definitely Mount Rushmore horror faces
"I know you gentlemen have been through a lot. But when you find the time... I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!!!!"
Brilliantly played by the late actor Donald Moffat. May he RIP. Passed away on 12/18/2018 at age 87. Quite the career he had.
just watched this movie for the first time with my dad, this line had us laughing so hard 😂
Back during the mid 1990s when I was renting VHS movies at a Video Store,I remember over hearing 3 customers who were in their early 20s(2 males,1 female). One of the guys said something like,"there is a sci fiction scary movie I haven't seen in many years,we got to get it's call...THE THING".
The best film EVER made.
that is a dreadful trailer by the way. The other is far better
It's not that bad, the trailer. It is my favorite movie too though.
We found something. We found something. We found something...
JOHN CARPENTER'S
THE
*T H I N G*
I still watch this movie to this day. The FX were great, and it is a good story.
to this day, still one of the scariest movies i have ever seen
I watched a making of the film where John Carpenter said that this was Rob Bottins movie, a credit to his special effects.
Even 40 Years later. This movie never get's old. Plus it's Kill in this movie is much better and scary then the original film. That's for sure, I love this movie so much. Heck I told my friends and family, "You can be the humans. But I'm The Thing!"
I saw it at the theatre, I was a little too young but we lied about our ages. The buddy I was with almost got us kicked out when he shouted a four letter expletive at the dog scene.
0:43 Looks a bit different to the bit they used in the actual movie, I don't remember Palmer screaming like that.
Yeah, that Palmer clip is not in the movie. Also Bennings scream at the end in this trailer is way different from the final cut.
It is different, and there's some discussion about the screaming in that scene in the final cut of the movie. People say it's Palmer screaming although you can't see him opening his mouth, so it may have been some faulty audio editing.
Lol yeah it looks like he's falling off a roller coaster. I'm glad they made Palmer's face blank in the film.
Aaron Brummett
No, assimilated people all are alien replacements, not merely "infected"...with the exception maybe of Blair.
Aaron Brummett Other than Blair and (most likely) Norris, the Thing’s victims are killed during the assimilation process.
Just bought the Blu ray version! Definitely a classic Carpenter movie.
Absolutely love this movie. It's in my top 5 for sure
Me too. I would add (unpopular opinion) Taxi Driver, The good the bad and the ugly, godfather, goodfellas, pulp fiction, dark knight, Shawshank redemption, Inception etc
If you consider yourself a horror fan and do not cherish this movie, you are not to be taken seriously; nice double bill by the way with 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers
@@voiceover2191 Isn't it amazing how Invasion of the body snatchers doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's very very disturbing
@@David-yn5bs Indeed. The 1978 version is by far the best of the 4 that have been done (incl. the original). The atmosphere is so tense, I still remember the credits with the rain coming down or is it? It makes you so paranoid that potentiallly even rain drops could be a threat by in reality being something else. I don't know, it's not even the acting that is so special, even though it had some great names with Goldblum and Sutherland, but it is the atmosphere of the movie, the tension and full blown paranoia it manages to infect you with as a viewer, masterpiece!
just watched this- it’s honestly great. gore is really good, twists are surprising, ending fits perfectly. 100% recommend
This movie deserves a sequel
Well it got a prequel and that was an utter disaster. It’s probably better left alone.
The prequel was done really well yes some of the CGI is dated but it was also a great movie
Knowing that John Carpenter was a fan of the original "The Thing From Another World." That scream Bennings is making here shows great tribute to the old Monster thing. Pretty cool.
Brilliantly played by actor Peter Maloney now age 76. A small but memorable performance.
Greatest movie ever made in every conceivable way! There is no question.
Bro that trailer was honestly scarier then most horror movie trailers today geez
And they didn't show anything to give the movie away, unlike today where they show 98% of a movie in the trailer.
Not everyone may be aware but the guy in the "operation" scene was a double amputee, hence why it was horrifically realistic.
That unused shot of Palmer looked pretty creepy--they should have used it.
We all know that this movie invented the concept for Among Us.
The book Who Goes There invented it because that’s what The Thing is an adaptation of
The radio static trailer was more effective.
Watch The Thing online here => twitter.com/d90a57c571af767fe/status/822784061768810498
Nah, it was too filled with spoiler scenes. This one is better, it does not spoil anyTHING for those who didn't watch the movie.
Cool shot of Palmer--I wonder why they didn't use it.
It doesn't really look like he's in pain. That's probably why.
Will Wheaton he looks horrified, but the final cut is much scarier since it’s just plain face it has no reaction to its own transformation.
@@CeeCee222 it keeps us wondering though, who was screaming during that scene?
This version of the Bennings Thing scream is creepier than the the movie version.
I respectfully disagree, the scream in the trailer is no where near as scary as the final version
I disagree, the trailer scream is a bit menacing, but the final one is downright horrifying.
this one sounded like it was showing a scream from a cut scene. the original is different scarier.
the proper bennings scream was supposed to represent various aliens screams as they were attacked. can can transform into any of these aliens.
what makes this film creepy is that from a science perspective am organism like that could be out there on some other world.
the create isn't really painted as bad. like the humans the organism is painted as a thing just trying to adapt and survive. that is what made the movie scary.
the 2011 prequel felt like a gooddy vs baddy movie but with a creature.
and this one the creature didn't hate or show any emotion at all it was just trying to survive.
I saw this movie to young... I have been scarred for life...
but not solely because of this movie (just a little bit because of). It is a classic and introduces a healthy measure of paranoia to a person.
Just because you're paranoid don't mean nothing's out to consume and imitate you.
Couple of weeks after the phenomenon known as ET the timeing was bad. But in late 1982 into 1983 this was one of the most top rental video on Betamax and VHS 📼 and with Bladerunner came out the same summer made more of an impact down the years than ET ever did !
No spoilers. IT' BEST TRAILER EVER.
My most favourite movie to date.
0:44 the thing is your gilrfriend
Am I the only one who got nightmares from this?
This is the trailer I saw when we went & saw Conan the Barbarian. Always gave me the "creeps".
Same trailer I saw when I went to see Rocky 3 with my late pop back in early June, 1982, Mr. Fuentes
for years, I have been too chicken to see The Thing (and for the record, I was only 6 when it was first released). but on Halloween Eve, I am gonna rack up some guts and see it as part of a special double feature at the Imperial Theatre. fingers crossed I don't scream too loud.
This movie deserves a Sequel
@@gerardorodriguez7500Yeah, it was. A poorly marketed prequel (why call it The Thing and not add a subtitle on it?).
And honestly, I don't think a sequel would do it justice.
There's been some sequel comics back in the day and they sucked ass, they all missed the point of the original and went full blown action horror like Aliens.
That's how you do a trailer (without any spoilers)
41 years later and still terrifying AF.
Is this the original studiob trailer?
Omg the special FX were mind blowing!
38 years later, we get a game with a similar premise.
also is it just me or is red sus?
Exactly.. Once I realized what Among Us is about I immediately told my kids about my favorite movie and showed them this trailer..
John Carpenter is the man
Of horror with suspense, thrills, scares especially darkness. This movie is a classic.
No need for CGI ever. Just call the SFX genius Rob Bottin.
The book perfectly describes the mindset of critics like Ebert and others. A fresh perspective is in order to appreciate what this film has to offer, that's why film reviewers opinions are subjective. The only opinion that really matters if yours. Watch it, read it or listen to it through Audible and decide for your self.
Of all the horror movies I've watched .... This is the most terrifying one!
Great movie. Timeless classic!
Wow, this was back when they created their monsters from scratch, not the obviously fake CGI. Although, some CGI creatures look very impressive. I love "The Host" with that fish beast attacking people.
Wish i can format my brain to watch it again with 100% value. And reformat it again every time ...
Best horror film of all time
Please people, watch it. It really is the best stuff around town.
This is basically among us
I saw this in the theater and tons of time on tape but today I saw Copper's nose ring for the 1st time.
My favourite 80s horror movie of all time the thing 1982 by john carpenter
The only way they can remake this is if they got Mark Walberg as McCready, Denzel Washington as childs, Tom Cruise as Blair, just to name a few superstars. I'm scared they're going to ruin it.
What's worse, a hive full of xenomorphs, or the thing
The thing.. once it touches u your fucked, infected to be assimilated into something that looks like you whatever other creatures/plants in the universe it's already assimilated
0:44 i never saw this seen in the film?
A spacecraft traveling slower than light speed would take additional millenia to reach Earth after reaching the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Heed the Seen Unless the pilot found a short cut, like maybe a wormhole that interconnects galaxies.
Could have started inside the Milky Way and slowed down when it got close.
Some Body tried to discourage me from using the word "Thing" as a discription for eveything and anything other than myself.
Onde acho este filme?
That is how you do a trailer!
loved it I was 10. 3 days during nights torch+knife
That's the most haunted trailer I have seen.
Back when trailers didn't give too much away or spoil the entire plot of the film 😂
is the narrator Don LaFontaine or Hal Douglas?
Please do the thing 2011 collector edition with the director's cut
One aspect of this film I don't get. Why are these Americans actually in Antarctica? they don't seem to be doing much -just hanging about playing pool
well they're not v convincing lol Luv Kurt Russell's character -but he's hardly an intellectual. Still, who cares? It's a great movie
@@splinterbyrd
Macready is a helicopter pilot. He probably wasn’t as smart as the others, such as blair, copper and Norris since his occupation was simple but he still was the brains of the group. And once the thing came, mac was in control and plans some very important and smart moments in the movie, like the blood test and blowing the facility. So yeah mac is actually on the same brain level as many others, he might just have a little bit of a drinking problem.
Au panthéon des chefs-d'œuvre .direct
John Carpenter and Kurt Russell 😎 ❤️
love the Urban Sombrero- HA LOVE TO KURT
There are things out there we Don t understand or know about.
There’s a “Thing” Among Us..
Sounds like he has a bit of a horrible gas problem at the end!
The 1st memory I have of a horror movie. Intriguing🫠
Why they have used vintage tint or filter for this trailer ? Instead of showing the blu ray upgraded picture, they have downgraded the quality , original trailer is better
ditahun 1982 yang sudah membahas alien dan duplikasi makluk
I still haven't seen this movie. It sounds so good, just waiting for that perfect moment to watch this classic. Any suggestions?
McCready was the man!

Among Us trailer
2011 is remake, must see this too
Hisham Bin Yun the 2011 movie is actually a prequel to the 1982 version of the thing
That’s one creepy trailer
The thing vs the imposter
bro, among us is a copy of this film dont you think?
Kurt was watts age here wow!
Even back in 1982 the ideological critics had to adhere to the universal truth - opinions are like @$$holes, everybody’s got one. A great movie doesn’t need a great income statement to be a great movie.
🔥
I got such positive feedback about the panels

Those guys did nt have a chance against that thing!
They look like monsters Trevor Henderson created
why does benning sscream like that? not how it is in the movie
I can't believe that when this movie came out that critics disliked it. Now it's an undisputed classic.
The critics are the worst if they didn’t disliked the movie then they would have a Sequel of the movie
I heard it bombed in the theaters too.
This movie was ahead of it's time.
I wish they did a sequel... the Thing in the general public.
But John Carpenter is currently working on a reboot.
@@seabassseabass8835 the reason why I think that it had bombed at the theaters was because it was released the same year that ET was. ET had just been released in the summer and this was in like November of 1982 I believe.
I believe you're right. How many families were too poor to go to the cinema more than once a year 😂
I can't believe they tried to remake it in 2011 lmao.
