I think that behind the melancholy skin of this beautiful song is a message of hope. No matter what bad behaviors are causing your eating disorder, you can change the way you think of yourself and “get better”.
I was writing out some ambiguous paragraph that led nowhere... It’s about heroin. You wake up with the same problems you went to bed with and realize you’re thirsty and bleeding. Eventually you don’t recognize yourself or the world you’re living in anymore. It’s easier to just go back to the water and forget who you are, but there’s someone you know you’re letting down. It could be someone who cares about you, who used to know you before you became an addict; or it could be your own body you’re neglecting as its convulsing and dehydrated. Having someone who makes you want to get back to your regular self is just beautiful and makes me want to cry. I’m so sorry I let you down, I forgot my only friend
