  • Easy to follow step by step instructions. Adjusting the valves will make the mower easier to pull.
    Engine will run better. Valves should be adjusted every year.
    Tips;
    Always adjust valves on a cold engine.
    Shake the rocker arm back and forth to make sure its square to the valve.
    Put a little motor oil on the feeler gauge.
    When you think your done, re-check every valve.
    Sometimes when the locknut or set screw is tightened it will slightly change the clearance.

    I think the first few minutes answered my question.
    I have a Power More push mower that feels like it locks up when I pull the rope a few times.
    I happened to think about the valves and thought I would research it a little.
    I have had to adjust valves on riders that would not turn over.
    That is what made me think of the valves in this 3 year old push mower.

    Just found a 5-20 yr old mower at the curb. Air filter looked like it was never changed. Plug fouled, Oil everywhere.
    Cleaned it up starts and runs good but hard to pull. Flywheel key was good. Should've caught the clue of the oil mess. Valves where in need of adjustment. Good as new now.

    Haha, the valve cover on mine did the exact same thing, I had to use a razor blade so I wouldn’t ruin the gasket lol! I searched all over for the specs but for some reason I couldn’t find them so I watched your vid and there they are. I set them the same way as you, intake open and set exhaust, exhaust open and set intake. I don’t know why they always try to make you do it the hard way.

    For some reason no matter how many times I make the adjustment they won't stay in specs. I rotate the engine and the rockers are way loose again. Checked the push rods and not bent. I did hear a clacking when started last and went away when the rpms went up. Short of pulling the head to check the valves. I also noticed a small pice of metal in the rocker cover that looks like spring material? Thanks for your input.

    Have been watching your videos for the last couple of weeks. I have subbed. I see you dont bring them to top dead center on the compression stroke

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  3 роки тому +6

      There are 2 methods to adjusting valves as I tried to explain in the video.
      The hard way and the easy way. 1. The hard way is while turning the engine over ( clockwise ), go 1/4 inch past top dead center on the (compression ) stroke. Then if you did that right now you can adjust both intake and exhaust valve. A lot of things can go wrong this way. That is why I made this video.
      2. Easy way is open the exhaust valve all the way open and then adjust intake. Now open intake all the way and then adjust exhaust. Done.
      Please watch my video again and you will see how I try to explain this. Much faster than my typing. : )
      Thank you

    With the valve out of adjustment would it cause one not to start and pop through the carburetor?

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  Рік тому +1

      Yes it could. If the intake is set to tight (no clearance). The intake valve would not close completely.
