I respect and appreciate this video! I feel the same way, Dan. The simple reason I don’t concern myself so much with performance is that we ultimately can’t control it. Concerning ourselves with the uncontrollable is maddening, and we see the evidence of that everywhere with lots of unhappy and disappointed blind buys. Performance is not a feature of fragrances-it is a byproduct, and as you said, it is subjective/relative. It’s less about the liquid and its constituents, and more about our noses, skin, and environment! Too many variables to truly measure. Thanks again!
I agree performance is not the most important thing but it is a close second. I really don't see why fragrance companies can't do both. I'm really into old school fragrances lately and they seemed to be able to make a fragrance smell good with great performance back in the day....why can't they no longer do that with (most) modern releases? No excuse in my book except for greed in an attempt to sell more product.
Thanks for the comment. In the past oakmoss was allowed to be used in greater amounts and this helped longevity. Apart from that I’m not totally sure what happened.
Performance isn't the most important thing, but as you allude to, you may expect something to last an amount of time in proportion to the amount you paid. Paying for a Creed that lasts for an hour (as seen reported, not happened to me) is unacceptable. You'd expect a £5 Aldi dupe to struggle to hit an hour, but not a Creed or any other big designer/Niche brand. I re-iterate, the smell is the most important thing though.
Based on your recommendation, recently I tried ADP Colonia Essenza. And I can say that despite being EDC concentration, this fragrance outperforms the absolute majority of its rivals in citrus aromatic category. So, good performance can be quite a pleasant bonus, especially if you didn't expect it initially.
@@aaron4387 Sorry that a small typo distracts you. I'm sure your german is way better than my english. Why don't we continue this conversation auf deutsch?
I'd say I buy fragrances more for me than others, so I care less whether they can smell them than if I can. I also think its a value for money thing. Obviously some people have enough money to waste some and some who don't have money are in that position because they waste what they get.

💯% agree. People who are concerned about performance of their perfume are the same type of people who buy a Corvette but can’t afford to fill up the tank
I think your premise is completely wrong. Seems your premise is that there are people who value performance MORE than scent profile. I don't think that person exists. Now, there are people I think put too much emphasis on performance, but never subsume scent profile below that of performance. They harp on that because that is where they perceive the problem to be. Also, sometimes perceived performance issues have to do with nose blindness, but not always. When after repeated wearings I can't detect Milliseme Imperial after x number of hours, but can repeatedly smell Guerlain Heritage on me the next day, that is a real difference in performance. The way I judge performance is a bit different: I don't care if someone else can smell it 5 feet away. Good performance for me is if I can catch occasional natural wafts to MY nose several hours into the drydown, after spraying fairly heavily.
Great restaurant analogy. I generally agree with you. To me, performance matters only when it comes to the truly weakest performers (like the Nautica series which I love). However, there’s even a place for the super weak performers in my collection - they are just perfect for the gym.

Thanks very much Justin. I agree. Great points and I really appreciate you commenting.

I have a theory: IFRA.
Gasoline will last forever on skin. Think of it as a rugged Fahrenheit.
I do not have a cologne collection , because i always carry a bottle with me . Sooo i totally agree with you .
Thanks! Good idea!
Whaaaat!?No video clips"Me when i'm experimenting whith some new stuff"😂
Ha ok the video clips will be back next time!

That’s true. Thanks for the comment.
Performance is essential when it comes to cars, women and fragrances
Obviously your view of the world is rather simple.

you're 100% right, Dan. a bad song through a louder stereo doesn't make it better.
Thank you
That's a pity Dan. With a Performance themed video, you could have included plenty of stories about your ex-wife....
Haha thank you
Testify, Mr, Smelly...
Thank you.
Agreed. But that pinch of salt better be good quality or POWWW!! 👊💥🤣
