  • The ancient Indian Buddhist philosopher, Nagarjuna’s celebrated letter of wisdom to King Gautamiputra, Letter to a Friend, comprehensively conveys the path and practice of Dharma to both householders and the ordained in a simple language. Distinguished Buddhist scholar Geshe Lhakdor led weekly virtual teachings over six months in 2021, analysing and teaching the 123 verses of this text.
In this session, Geshe la explains the relevance of the text for people living in modern times and dissects the first three verses. He elaborates that all humans have a combination of all the requisite favourable conditions to fulfil an innate aspiration towards peace: inclination, capacity and the opportunity to hear and learn. He emphasises the Four Reliances taught by the Buddha and the deeper understanding that is gained each time one reads a text.
