  • An electrical bulb, commonly known as a light bulb, is a device that produces light from electricity. It consists of a filament or a gas-filled bulb that emits light when an electric current passes through it. The basic principle behind the functioning of a light bulb involves the heating of the filament or the gas inside the bulb, causing it to emit visible light.
    There are different types of light bulbs, including incandescent bulbs, fluorescent bulbs, LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs, and CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) bulbs. Each type has its own mechanism for producing light.
    1. *Incandescent Bulbs:* These bulbs contain a tungsten filament that heats up when an electric current passes through it. The filament becomes so hot that it emits visible light. Incandescent bulbs are less energy-efficient compared to other types and have become less common due to their relatively short lifespan.
    2. *Fluorescent Bulbs:* These bulbs contain a gas and a phosphor coating inside the tube. When an electric current passes through the gas, it produces ultraviolet light. This ultraviolet light then interacts with the phosphor coating, causing it to emit visible light. Fluorescent bulbs are more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs but contain small amounts of mercury.
    3. *LED Bulbs:* LED bulbs use a semiconductor diode to emit light when an electric current is applied. They are highly energy-efficient, have a longer lifespan, and are available in various colors. LED lighting has become increasingly popular for its energy savings and durability.
    4. *CFL Bulbs:* Compact Fluorescent Lamps are energy-efficient bulbs that operate on a similar principle as fluorescent tubes. They use a compact spiral design and are more efficient than incandescent bulbs, but they also contain small amounts of mercury.
    In recent years, there has been a shift towards using more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting options, with LED bulbs being one of the most widely adopted alternatives due to their numerous advantages.
