I have got to spring for one of those Atv sprayers! I’ve walked past them in Rural King several times thinking I need to pick one up. Great advice here!
Thanks Lucas. If you can get away with it, a Solo backpack sprayer would be cheaper and easier to store and maintain, but it's a lot of walking and pumping! With the amount of property we have to maintain now, the ATV sprayer is a huge time saver. 👍
Good idea covering up and wearing a mask when spraying 👍🏻. We are very limited in chemicals here in 🇨🇦, I would love to get rid of the crabgrass but we don’t have anything here other than this “cornmeal” stuff that doesn’t work 🤷🏼♂️. Have a great weekend B&D
It's hard to kill grass in grass! Broadleaves are easier and sedges can be isolated, but we have some invasive grass in the pasture that is not bahia that we can't get rid of. I don't have a solution for that! Take care Luc. B&D
So if it’s hot in Texas right in the 100. In the morning the grass is wet from the humid here. When should I spray? Would the evening be ok? I used to figure that the sun would dry up the mix and because of that it dries before it is even effect. Please help
It all worked well. The fenceline was treated with Gordon's Brushkiller from Tractor Supply. Some of the brush came back this year, but most of it died off completely. You can see our pastures make hay in some upcoming videos and they are completely weed free.
This ATV has a 12V receptacle. But you can also buy an alligator clip receptacle for your battery. Amazon affiliate link here: ua-cam.com/video/1acX-GrQFaM/v-deo.html Another spray video here: ua-cam.com/video/1acX-GrQFaM/v-deo.html
You want the target weed to be actively growing with as many leaves showing to absorb the herbicide, so I would spray before I mow. Here's an updated video: ua-cam.com/video/1acX-GrQFaM/v-deo.html
I did a Google search for "herbicide for milkweed in pasture" and it said 2,4-D can work in the early stages. Otherwise you have to wick it with glyphosate when it's taller than the grass.
Chemicals are based on volume per acreage, so if you go real fast, you can do more acreage with less water. You have to calculate your sprayer. I know at my speeds I can cover about 1 acre with 15 gallons with the nozzles on my boom. So I put in enough chemicals to treat 1 acre at a time.
They make different levels of brush killers....one actually prevents regrowth in the soil. I used the one that works on contact but doesn't affect the soil. But yes, it works.
Close to wide open. The key is to know about in your mind how much ground you can cover at any given speed since chemicals are applied per acre, not per gallon.
Remember here you can't spray 24d around a tomato farm. The tomatoes can't stand 24d and if any drift gets to a tomato farm you are responsible for the cost of everything you kill. F.S. says a safe spry range is 3 miles if I remember right. Oh if you get to hot doing the spraying. You can mount it in your truck. Back when I was spraying a bunch of hay . I took a 380gl square shipping tote and mounted 2 16ft spray nozzles and a 2.8 gpm pump. It was a lot better in the ac.
@@PineyGroveHomestead i guess it depends how much you have to be on the atv. Spraying herbicides and bug poison and liquid fertilizer one 300 + acers where you can't get a big tractor sprayer in or don't have the big sprayer. Especially in August........ lol

They cleaned up well after this spraying. Thanks for watching. B&D.

You've got the ATV....just get a sprayer. Keep those pastures weed free! Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

We spray after the morning dew dries.
What was the chemical used for the thicker stuff along the fence? And any update on effectiveness?

Great explanation I see a lot of 25 gallons atv the 15gal looks like better setup more managable
Thanks! We get a lot done with this setup!
Great video! Do you wire direct to atv battery? Or use a separate 12v?

Once you use herbicides in tank is it not recommended for any other uses as i n liquid fertilizer???
I think if you rinse the tank you'd be OK, but that's just me. Here's a newer spray we have: ua-cam.com/video/sXFmEuyRtfU/v-deo.html

What do you recommend to kill milkweeds and not kill my grass? Part of my field is infested with milkweed and way too much to dig up.

@@PineyGroveHomestead how fast are your speeds? Are you saying with that size gallons you can cover 1 acre?
@@RonnieRayAllDay yes
Did the chemical you used last for your fence line actually kill all the weeds, saw briars and little saplings that normally grow in a fence line??
They make different levels of brush killers....one actually prevents regrowth in the soil. I used the one that works on contact but doesn't affect the soil. But yes, it works.
Do you mind saying which you used? You may have advised in the video but I do not recall.
