Hi Srbo, nice review, as always. My impression of this amp, after 3 months of listening: it's really powerful, I don't listen to it over 10 o'clock on the volume dial, depending on speakers I connect to it. A lot of power and dynamics, but at the same time a lot of details and good air in my opinion. Speaker pairing is crucial here, as you said: if you nail it, than it's hard to find a fault. If not, then you're in for a bumpy ride... All in all, I'm really happy with my choice. Just a few additional comments: I didn't notice if you mentioned that the digital module contains a Bluetooth receiver as well (for those who are interested); also, the remote doesn't come as standard, it's a 50 EUR additional cots (🤔😒).
Hi! Thanks for filling in with BT (forgot to mention) and remote (wasn't aware of) info. I'm gonna pin this post to be the first one so people can see it. Finally, thanks for the loan. 👍
I went to AXPONA 2022 (fortunately only living 30 minutes away) and Atoll integrated amps were paired with Atohm speakers in one of the hundreds of smallish stripped out hotel rooms. I was unfamiliar with the brand, but was immediately impressed. Upon learning of the relatively reasonable cost, I returned after sampling many other rooms over the course of two days. My initial impression was confirmed, and it is great that your findings are so favorable as well. Very nice review. Thank you.
I use this amp with my Harbeth P3ESR And for me its a perfect match. As you said with acoustic instruments and vocals its amazing. Love this combination.
ATOLL really needs to be known among more people. One very well priced European gear that has a very hjgh quality parts and detials that many other companies dont publish. Sound is lush, airy, almost tubey at times. Its easy to use wirh Dali, Revival Audio, Wharfedale, Kef, Monitor Audio, polk ..have it it with all of them
Congrats, 100% agree with your review, very accurate description! 👍 I recently was in searching for renewing my audio chain. I have had to choose from Marantz PM 8006, Audiolab 8300A, Rega Elex-R and Atoll IN100 Signature. You guessed, the winner was Atoll. The 100W power and dual mono MOSFET transistors of Atoll (warmer and smoother sound than BJT transistors) paired with KEF R3 marked the end of searching for me. As a DAC, I use SMSL M400 - which is a beast. P.S.: Very close was Rega Elex-R, but the higher power of Atoll has cut the deal.
@Radu OMG, you are a God send ! I am also looking for something to pair with my R3s. Is there someway we can connect to discuss this pairing ? I am not sure that your impression is aligned with this review, as R3 are a tad bright. Did you try out any Heggels ?
Owner of a IN80, and love it dearly, have it paired with elac speakers which i think are a neutral to warm(ish) and honestly i think its the perfect super neutral and natural combo. Love it.
you know what i've noticed guys as an owner of Atoll IN80 Signature, and i had read this in a forum , but at the time i doubted the guy who had written it, because i thought he's bullshitting theres no way that happens its not tubes to need to warm up but i noticed he's correct. the slight ever so slight minute sharpness/harshness exists indeed when the amplifier is cold but when its warm like after an hour or hour and half of operation that goes completely away and it becomes so smooth, like absolutely heavenly, smoother than a baby. some people have compared it even with tubes
thanks for your comment.. I am curious because i am also considering the IN80 but it only has 1 toroidal transformer only instead of 2 as in the IN100. I have a pair of ELAC Uni-fi2.0 that are not that sensitive ~85dB. It seems you are happy with your ELACs, which ones you have ?
@@gabrielbacca381 Elac Uni-fi 2.0 are actually easy to drive. Paired them with: Yamaha AX 1070, Exposure 2010 S2 integrated, Even NAD 302 (2 x 25 watts ), currently with Exposure as a pre amp and Arcam Delta 290 P power amp. Elacs work great with all of them. Cables are Wireworld / Belden combo. With Arcam they sing the best so far. Greatful speakers for pairing.
@@computeraudiophile9590 thanks for the response. Actually I ended up buying an Exposure 2510 ... great amp... It's just been a week, still burning it. Yes, the Uni-fi 1.0 had a bad rep, but the 2.0 are much better for pairing... The exposure replaced a Denon PMA600, a big jump in sound, but I am missing little bit of humpf in the low frequencies.. not the supper low freqs but those in the mid to upper low freqs where synths create an airy background ... you know what I mean.... the speakers are performing great ... the difference is, I think, in the sound from the Exposure... So I am thinking of adding a subwoofer to expand the crossover frequencies... not sure yet... any experience with that?
sorry for the late replyz UA-cam has removed comment notifications for me. I've the 2.0 6.2 although might sell em to a friend that wants to start hifi amd get myself the elac reference dbr62 or ubr62 or the kef LS50. fun fact about the 80 vs 100, a reviewer reviewed the in80 and found it a warm and rich sounding amp, this is my experience aswell. iwii found tbe 100 a bit bright. fun fact i remember my dealer telling me that he was baffled by how people who listened to both didn't choose the technically better (double toroid instead of single) amplifier. from that i can conclude that maybe the 80 is a bit more warm sounding while the 100 a bit more bright? could be the case.
I really enjoy your reviews, even tho I'm pretty much set as far as equipment goes. I especially love you putting up your albums during the sound section. Always exceptional sounding music (even the stuff that doesn't interest me). Usually something broadens my already eclectic tastes, tho. Most appreciated! Keep up the good work.
Thank you for a clear and accurate review. I have its bigger brother the IN 200 Signature with the AKM4490 digital board. I bought this for £1650. Matching source and especially speakers correctly is a must. Fortunately my source components suited the Atoll fine but when I tried to substitute the Buchardt 400 mkii for my approximately 25+year old Casle Howard S2 floorstanders to improve imaging I found I had made a mistake. The improvement was there but so was an unacceptable level of sibilance on vocals and speech. So back to the Castles. Thank you for the Wharfedale suggestion. The only problem is I do not personal reasons willingly buy Chinese. I might instead consider the Proac range or some similar French speakers.
Proac also leans bright as do Focal. Dynaudio is more neutral and pairs well with almost anything but also does reveal the limitations of source equipment.
Nice review, to my understanding the 2 transformers work in serial mode in the IN100 and in seperate mode with the IN200/300. Owning this amp and the IN200, the golden tip is the tuning from AVS Oymann for this amp. Night and day difference, sounds fuller without any harshness, very very spatial and with great bass authority and control. So pay a little extra for the tuning and skip the internal DAC (R2R and dual AKM are great match!). The binding posts are crap, pure brass and metal but easy to change. PS, no commercial interest, just a happy customer 🙂
Thanks for sharing your impressions. Regarding transformers, they are dedicated to one channel each... You see it by looking at the wiring. That's the purpose of using two instead one. About the brass binding posts, yeah you're right, but brass is used on most commercial products. Especially at this price is almost impossible to find better ones. Maybe with some small scale brands that sell directly to customers...
Well done, a really great presentation of an great amp. I say that because I have it at home and I am very happy with it. The dac and phono section is also good. I have it combined with the focal aria 906, I personally think it's ok, although they say that the focal are too bright, but I don't think so. The focal aria 906 are great for listening at low volume, which is suitable for evening listening. In short, the atoll IN 100 seems to me to be an amplifier for years and years of listening and is an excellent price-quality ratio...keep going Srbo 👍 Pozdrav iz Slovenije, Gogo
Aria 906 might be different than most older Focals, or it simply suits your taste... Anyway, if it sounds good that's all that matters. Veliki pozdrav za Sloveniju! 🍻
Hi, I am using an Atoll IN 50 Intigrated Amp as my (Power amp through Bypass Mode). It is a Mossfet Amp (Fully Discreet), My DAC is Soncoz LA-QXD1, My Pre-Amp is Feliks Echo Tube Headphone Amp (I use this as a Pre-Amp) . Book Shelf Speakers Xavian Mia ll + Sub Velodyne EQ MAX 10. I Send signal to the Sub from Atoll through the Same Speaker Terminals (High Current Output). Sounds Super. I Brought the Soncoz and Alo Shanti after viewing your review on it. Thanks for your guidance.
Hey, I have a IN200sig and I’m considering buying the Feliks Echo to use as a preamp, exactly like you. Would you say it made a big difference for you in your system?
@@lekmannen9990 To me, yes. because, prior to this I was connecting my same Bookshelf speakers Rated at 4 Ohms and Sub to my Denon AVR 3313 in (2.1 Stereo amp formation). I used to use the AVR in Pure Direct Mode for my listening sessions. At that point of time, when I introduced the Feliks Audio Echo Headphone amp (In Pre-Amp mode) into my Listening chain, I felt that my Bookshelves sounded like much bigger speakers. Also I noticed, there was a definite greater Analogue warmth to the Audio I was listening to. The Feliks Audio Echo is Primarily a very good Headphone Amp. Then came in the Second-hand Atoll IN 50 (It was previously used as a Demo unit), which I purchased to use it as a dedicated power amp (In Bypass Mode). Unfortunately for me at this point My Subwoofer stoped functioning. Now my further comments are with respect to Stereo without a Sub. Just My Book Shelves (Xavian Mia ll) Specs are: Freq Resp 55 Hz to 44kHz. @ 4 Ohms. Sensitivity 86dB; 2V/1m. Crossover freq at 3kHz. There was more body to the Music I was listening to. There was a more detailed sound stage, clearer background and more depth to the music I was listening to. Last week I replaced my Atoll IN 50 with a (Second Hand) Atoll IN 200 SE (Dec 2015 manufacture). It is in Pristine condition. It was looked after very well by it's previous owner. I purchased it to use this also as a dedicated power amp (In Bypass Mode). Now I feel like a baby who has eaten chocolate for the first time. I still have to get my Sub functional. When I connect my Sub I intend to connect it to the Speaker Terminals (Shared with the Book Shelves). My Sub (Velodyne EQ MAX 10 also has High-current Input terminals. I don't think the pre-out of Atoll will function when it is in Bypass mode. But connecting my Sub will take some time.
Switched from a Hegel h120 to a Atoll in300 just this week. It is another approach to amplification and a different feature set. For now still happy, let's see after some months of use.
@@alemari3547 hi, the Atoll in300 has more power, my speakers like that especially when playing at low levels. Also I like the extensive connection possibilities. The dac seems OK, think the Hegel is better. The Atoll is quit simple in technical sense, mostly focusing on the power supply (wunderful done, should be visible!). The Hegel H120 has more settings and electronic gadgets (like sound engine) to control the input signal and speakers. Still happy with the Atoll, but don't think it is my end game. Perhaps the Hegel H190 is the best option, with Hegel tech and more power, but I would like to try something different, like a Lyngdorf or Accuphase. Or another small brand, should be nice to experiment.
@@robinr5787 thanks for answering Robin , i am about to buy an hegel h70 for 400$ more or less out of curiosity towards this brand , i like to experiment too , it's the most fun thing about this passion , if you have any suggestion regarding integrated amps feel free to tell me.
@@alemari3547 Not everyone likes the same, so ultimately it is your choise. Budget, astetics and your current speakers matter too. That aside, I think trying a Hegel is a good idea. Also you could consider Rega, Audiolab or Rotel.
Thanks, brilliant as always - you've given me SO MANY useful steers recently, as did my speaker manufacturers who love Atoll. My IN100 has been with me for just 24 hours, but this will be my FOREVER amp until they wheel me into a retirement home with a "headphones only" policy (I'll fight them, damit!) 😵💫 My speakers are the blissful, little spoken about, Neat Acoustic Alphas: they're like mini floor-standers - check them out, folks. - with sunny vibes from Folkestone - Richard 😍
I have an Atoll cd transport which I like very much, but I was hesitant to try their amps as...a/b = higher power consumption (than class d) and damn they are so big! But finally I bit the bullet when I found an open box IN50 for a good price with full warranty. It was nice, but decidedly warm, and had a very forward presentation with vocals. Bass was thick, yes, but I can't say it was in a really good way. Not terrible, and I think some might really like it, but for my taste not *really* good? In general it was inoffensive but had a fairly unbalanced signature to my ears. I seriously considered the IN100 but given I have Triangle Comete speakers, I was a bit worried about excessive brightness after watching this review. In the end I exchanged the IN50 for a new IN80 and bingo! It's much more balanced in presentation and there is nothing sharp/bright about it. It sounds very clean but not analytical by any stretch, rather I would call it "smooth" in the best ways possible. Bass is still very present, but tighter and more punchy, with none of the bloated sound I was getting with the IN50. Dynamics are fab, too - it's damned fun, and with my Triangles it's a *very* good combo. My favorite part though is the volume knob - it's so silky smooth - like buttah! :D It offers fine adjustment even at low volume, too. Overall I encourage anyone to give Atoll devices a try if you are in the market. I'm quickly turning into a franco-audio fan
I do notice commenters using the term power amp for an integrated amp without many features. They then call the headphone amp a pre-amp. Yes, because of SMSL and Topping...
Hi Srbo, thank you for the review. I am in the process of matching my Wharfedale Evos 4.4. Do you think this Atoll would be a good match for them? Thank you for your great reviews !
I can't say for sure because I haven't tried that model. But if it's not much different from the general Wharfedale sound (nice, warm, not too open and bright) then it should be a very decent match.
I am a bit surprised that with dual mono power supplies, that it "only" manages 140W into 4 ohms. In a "classic" ideal Class A/B design, it would have about 2X the 8 ohm rating into 4 ohms. It the output stage discrete, or is it using output op-amp chips? Edit: I found a few pictures - they look like transistors, but their heat sinks are quite small. So I am not sure what it is using. It also has two optional phono sections, apparently.
Hi iiwi, I dont know ur plans but maybe could you check out the venture electronics megatron? It should be a killer class AB DAC/AMP for 50 bucks with good power for planars, something like VE monks between amps :D.
Hi Srboljub, Your reviews are the most reliable for me due to the detailed and well-categorized way in which you talk about subjects. I would like to know your opinion regarding my dilemma. I want to build a good stereo system to listen to music (mainly) but also to watch movies(I gave up on 5.1). I already have some 40th anniversary triangle speakers, and I now intend to complete the rest of the system with a streamer / dac / amplifier. My budget is around 1700 euros. After some research (rotel a11/a12/a14, cambridge cx81/mxn10, bluesound node 3/node x, eversolo a6, raspberry streamer, etc...) I'm leaning towards atoll in80, geshelli labs with akm4499 and sparkos op amps, and Maybe a Wiim Pro (I would prefer it to have HDMI and USB storage, but makes me confused paying 500 euros just for the streamer). Do you think this system can have good synergy? I'm not a fan of bass, and the most important thing is to listen to classical music. Yours sincerely, Augusto
Hi Augusto and thanks for your nice words. I haven't heard 40th anniversary Triangles but they're probably nurturing that same kind of forward and brighter tonality that I observed with BR03. If that were the case, I wouldn't pair them with an Atoll amp before being able to audition the combo first, or buy it in a shop with a good return policy - that's very fine too. Geshelli Labs DAC is a great choice in my opinion. It is a fantastic, smooth, and natural-sounding DAC. Paired with Wiim Pro it would make for a great digital platform and if you don't necessarily need extra features like HDD storage that more expensive streamers offer - I don't think there's any need to pay more in this situation. So my only concern remains a synergy between Atoll and Triangle. In my experience as you can see from this video - combining them didn't suit my taste and the taste of their owner either. But Geshelli Labs has a smooth and natural sound that would be a good match. There's also a good chance that your more expensive Triangles are more refined and not as edgy as BR03 so this whole concern is not justified.
@@iiWiReviews Can you please give me an alternative to the Wiim Pro with Geshelli Labs that has HDMI and USB storage? Thank you very much for your answer :)
Thank you for this review! You have made me very enthusiastic about the Atom! Curious how this one will pare with the Bluesound node X. Also looking for a 12v power trigger solution. Looks like a fantastic amp! Will use it with my Wharfedale Lintons 85th. (Current amp is a… Sonos amp… 😂)
Really enjoy your videos thanks for the work you put in would really like to see you do a review on some Vincent products sv500sv228 these are hybrid amps not many people do reviews on them have never seen a review on the SV 228 is there newer integrated amp you would be the first if you could get your hands on that amp thanks and have a great day
Hi Srbo, which one is a better buy Atoll IN100 or IN200 integrated amplifier. Since the amp has no tone controls or loudness button, would it give the speakers enough bass as with the loudness ?
I’m planning on purchasing the in100 to pair with my Graham ls6 speakers which I purchased for their rich mid range. I’m also going to purchase the Blusound Node primarily for its ease of operation. I know it’s subjective but do you have a view as to whether it’s worth purchasing the optional internal Atoll dac compared to using the dac in the node?
Hi, thanks for the nice review. I want to pair it with Dali oberon 3 bookshelf speaker. I like good bass punch and crisp treble (but not fatigue). Would appreciate your thoughts about this combo. TIA
@daniellaframboise1746 I'm thinking about buying the HD120 (same as HD100 with Bluetooth). What other headphone amps or preamps can you compare it to? How would you describe the sound signature? Thanks.
Give us some exemples of good combinations with this amplifier . What model of speakers and cables which can go well with it ? Built us an exemple of right system with this integrated amplifier. Thanks
No tone controls... Those would be very handy to match them to speakers and sources. Oh well I guess you could add an equalizer between pre-out and bypass.
Yes it would be nice to have treble, bass and a loudness button, there. But I doubt we could do much about better matching it to sources or speakers, as those basically sweep whole bands of frequencies. A more analytical graphic or even better, a parametric eq, will do the job precicely, but in this case you'd have to change the eq settings, far more often for different albums, music genres etc which is really a pain in the butt after a while...
I'm very interested in picking up the Buchardt S400 MKII speakers and think they would pair well with the Atoll amp. I've not heard them, but based on other reviews, they are a warm sounding speaker. Anyone here heard that combination?
can't answer about atoll but i have the mk 2 se for 2 weeks and they are very open with nice body in the mids, they project vocals forward in a special way ,great bass for a bookshelf. i'm happy with them ,not nearly broken in.ive noticed the highs are a bit far cymbals etc compared to my old b&w 686 for example, so ive turned my loki eq up at 8 khz and it worked so ive replaced the speaker cables from copper to silver now and i don't need the eq, so yeah brighter amps should be good and mads buchardt recommended atoll amps for the s400 in an interview with jay iyagi
Thank you for the good review. . I own the Graham ls 6 speakers (BBC-type) which I purchased for their rich mid range. Would the Atoll in 100 or in 80 preserve that lush mid range? Thank you.
Hello, I see this unit has 4 capacitors, which seems to me a bit underrated for dual monu, I see the in80 construction better balanced, but does sombody here remoind if there can be some sonic difference based on in80 has one transformer or will be that only power and drive of some more complicated speakers?
May I ask if torodial transformers from your IN100 hummed more than other devices you have there with you when just powered on? With several Atoll devices I owned over the years transformer hum was an issue - more than just once. Atoll devices seem to be a little sensitive to minor DC voltage within AC circuity (sometimes referred as "dirty power"). So when I moved e/g an Atoll amp frome one household to another one in maybe 20 km distance it could change from silence to pretty severe hum. What about your's?
I didn't hear anything and I do have to lean close over it to change cables on the back. That will also depend a lot on the condition of power in any particular place. For example, my friend had some problems with Hegels and had to purchase DC blocker to put that to an end, but in my place all Hegels worked great directly from the mains.
Thank you guys for answering. Yes, power conditioning did the job in my case, too. Latest experience with the AM300 (I made use of these quite affordable yet capable enough "DC-Blocker" devices by Audiolab (IAG)). However, amps with torodial transformers from various other brands "did not care" about clean or spoiled by DC power from AC and remained silent everywhere I hooked them on.
A little bit offtopic for this video... :) I 've noticed Acoustic Invader Fulcrum and matching power amp in one shot. Can we expect a review soon ? I heard them at the Hi Files show last month and was impressed by the sound of that combination.
My recent hifi journey moved me from kef r300 wirh arcam a19 and ir dac to atoll in200 with the dac and kef r3 meta. Now... I have tried the new arcam a25 and honestly i was amazed by the air and the definition the in200 delivered. About the brightness i have found that the arcam was more agresive with the hights and had more bass weight . The atoll might be bright to some extent but with the kef r3 meta it is more refined and doest irritate my eyer as the arcam. The only thing that i am missing slightly is the bass weight and presence it is there and it is very well controlled with high quality music but if the source is lacking the bass is lacking. I am currently with silver cables van del hul but from what i am reading mogami w3104 could improve the bass (they are copper). Any thoughts on that? Also i am currently using wiim mini which might not be the best source....would you recoment a better streamer ? Done need a touch screen like eversolo a6, dont mind it but it is not a must.... Will wiim pro or the newly announced wiim be an improvement? Or do you have anything else in mind....
Great to hear you like it in general. As for cables, true silver is very transparent and not too bright or lean. On the other hand, silver plated copper tend to emphasise highs. For this reason I recommend full silver wires for "money is no problem" cables and full copper for more reasonable builds. Duelund tinned copper cables also have great tone timbre and nice warmth, and don't cost too much either. For example 16ga or 12ga in cotton and oil might be worth trying. Wiim is great little streamer and I would stick with it. Maybe try powering it with some better power supply sometimes. It might be worth it.
Hello, can anyone tell me, I am using the atoll in 80 in 1999, and I really want to know what is the difference between the new atoll in 100 se? I don't care about the 20w firepower. Because there are more dac decoding now, I am afraid that the sound quality of the amplifier will drop?
Hello! I really like your reviews. I am a fan of Atoll. Please, can you tell me what cables, interconnect, speakers, and power cords, have you used with Atoll? I am one of those crazy people that think that cables can influence the outcome of an audio system! Thanks!
I'm one of the crazies too but almost all of my cables are DIY stuff. For wiring I prefer pure solid core copper in cotton or ptfe tubing (wires Neotech, Mundorf, VBS Audio that's local). For connectors I go for different stuff... Some are Furutech, some handmade of pure copper by VBS Audio here in Serbia. Still experimenting with screening those cables and how does that affect the sound.
Hi Srboljub, I’m wondering what would be the better option: buying the optional internal dac board with a WiiM Pro or Pro+ used as streamer only, or getting the DMP-A6 and use this as streamer and dac? Or maybe any other suggestions? Many thanks in advance. Kind regards Alain
Hi Srbo, how would you assess compatibility with Dynaudio Evoke 30? Found them to be rather neutral / sophisticated on high levels instead of bright. Thanks and best regards
I haven't heard evokes, but having listened to more then few Dynaudios... I think that match has strong potential. As you say, Dynaudios are neutral and refined so they shouldn't be provoked easily.
Hello! What about pairing atoll with klipsch rp600m? Any thoughts about this amp combined with atoll dac100 signature and how much this external dac could be better than the integrated dac?
Hardly any reviews on the Exposure amps, not you Srb just most reviewers don't do the smaller audio company's . The market is saturated with the same brands .
Hi nice review,I just bought last week my Atoll IN 300. What a great sounding amp, compared to my old amp NAD C375.Now I am looking for streamer. Do you think the IFI Zen would be a good match? Thanks Michael from Germany
I got the Primare streamer used for a good price and that just works fine with me. Also just upgraded to the S-Booster . Even more dynamic @@iiWiReviews
Interesting review. Most other reviewers place the lower Atoll line as being balanced, nuanced, even with a slight dip in the treble. You say it's bright. @Radu also says bellow that is it a bit warmer than other amps. Not sure what to make of this.
Owning 2 of them, it is certainly not bright 🙂 but if you live in Europe please try the tuning from AVS Oymann (Germany), it's also an Atoll dealer, so you can buy it new. With this tuning the IN100 is much more dynamic, full sounding, clean but never bright 😅
It has great power and it drives them very well... But that combination falls on the bright side tonally and I don't think that most people would like it very much. Maybe if a darker source is used but those are not that common nowadays.
OK - so this begs the question as to where in the US you can find one, and also how much is the retail price of this baby? Their manufacturer's website doesn't mention prices and the one distributor listed for the US doesn't show it, nor are any prices listed. Can anybody direct me where to find one in the US?
Yeah, another one of those circuitous pathways with such hi-fi though Audio Vision in San Francisco may be able to provide access. Looks like there is quite a used market.
Excellent review. Have you reviewed any Class A type integrated amplifiers or the Topping LA90?Would very much look forward to your take on those. Thanks
@@xstensl8823 BS. Class A requires the dissipation of significant heat. Look at the internal heatsinks and check the weight. No way it is in Class A for 30 watts. Perhaps 3 watts. I had an Atoll IN-200 in my system for a week and it barely felt warm after 24 hours of continuous play.
I own an Atoll IN30 amplifier, sounds good but looks a bit ugly. It did suddenly get a humming noise, it turned out one little elco had a loosened foot (1000 microfarad). Atoll has become a bit expensive now, the cheapest IN50 costs 849 euro now. I bought my IN30 without remote at 200 euro second hand. It used to cost about 400 euro new 10 years ago.The remote was 46 euro.
Great review as always. I am currently running an Onkyo Tx-8130 + TA-26 as tube buffer and Ares II into vintage onkyo sc-660s and and a Svs pb-1000 pro. Overall enjoying tge sound I have, but wondering what I may get from upgrading the amp to an atoll in100. Any opinions on the matter. I did get the Ares and the xduuo after watching your reviews.
Hi! Given that I haven't heard Elex MK4 personally it's difficult to advice here. But if my experience with ATC so far teaches me anything, they're on the bright side. So is the Atoll, so that can get problematic. If Elex has the same house sound as the Brio (but better I suppose), then that has a better chance of sounding good with ATC. Just thinking out loud here.
Hi Srboljub, (is this your correct name?) Great review, thanks. I'm looking at some upgrade advice and would greatly appreciate your help. I have 5.1.4 atmos setup with arendal 1723s towers as fronts. Use a denon 3800h that powers the center, rears and hight speakers and on the pre out of the denon an atoll in200 powers the 1723s towers.(your reviews helped a lot to go for arendal and atoll, THANKS!) I love the arendals!! I like the performanc for movies.. I actually am happy with 2 channel as well, but am usure if i could still improve the stereo experience.. I currently use the denon heos platform as a streamer via the denon dacs and have a separate dirac live filter to Run 2 channel music (put 4db bass gain and tried to get the rest of the curve as flat as possible with a slightly roll off for the trebble as I have a bright room) next to this I have the speakers placed very carefully out in the room and away from the Wall. The room is normally furnished, a bit Lively as no acoustic treatment. Question 1: do you think that a separate streamer/dac connected directly on the atoll will be an upgrade for me with regards to tonailty, soundstage depth and width etc? It sounds neutral, very detailed and tight in the bass with dirac at the moment, but I'm doubting the fullness/Juice as you always say 😂 The dac/streamer would need to have dirac/peq to deal with my living room bass problems (I have more than 10 db room gain below 80 hz) question 2: Will such an upgrade be subtle or big? Question 3: what streamer dac would be a good/sensible match to the atoll and arendal capabilities? Taking the bass problems into account and my wish for full and juicy sound. Thanks a lot for your great work!
Hi and thanks for your generous support! Yes, my name is correct. I am glad to hear that you're enjoying Arendal and Atoll, both great devices and a very promising system you have there. As for giving you a piece of good advice on this one - it will not be an easy task, especially because of Dirac and PEQ requirements. Even PEQ is very rare among stereo-oriented digital sources (purity of signal is a thing that most audiophiles cherish), but Dirac is almost exclusively connected to home theater setup. I believe there are some very rare occasions I've seen it implemented in the stereo solutions (Linn has it if I remember correctly) but it's extremely rare. That said, once you're familiar with your room mods and acoustics, and not afraid of doing things manually, PEQ should be more than enough to solve any acoustic problem. The first devices that come to mind, that are both great sounding and offer PEQ are the Eversolo DMP-A6 and A8. Your system could benefit from A8 if the budget allows it because it is good enough to show the difference. If not, DMP-A6 is still a very good device and has an interesting upgrade path (using a linear power supply tailored for it). But that's a whole other topic. Now the biggest problem with giving you any useful advice here is that I don't have any experience with the Denon streaming system and DAC you're currently using (it's a solution integrated inside of the multichannel amplifier if I got the post right?). If Denon's digital section is just OK but not great (most highly integrated solutions are like that) then Eversolos would probably present a decent upgrade (especially A8). On the other hand, if Denon is already great you might be eroding your budget and gaining nothing or very little in the process.
While I didn't help much with your dilemma, I have one piece of advice that you might already be familiar with.. or maybe not. When doing PEQ corrections I would try to keep it as simple and as minimal as possible. Handle those huge bass peaks by decreasing them, don't try to fill in big dips if they exist (the amp is straining and using energy but room acoustic is still canceling most of that added energy and creating the same dip, that gets barely any better. But you're losing dynamic headroom because you're making the amp work harder and have less spare power). Also, I wouldn't correct anything above ~150Hz no matter how non-flat things look. That's because altering those frequencies usually takes away from the sound more than it gives back - it dries it out, making it less musical and smooth. In my experience, a small amount of PEQ in the right place (bass peaks) can make a positive change, but a lot of PEQ usually results in a sum negative when we're talking about fine stereo.
@@iiWiReviews that is great advice and I'll take it at heart. I can load multiple presets and switch quickly between them, so I can make a new one with the bass adjustments only below 150 hz and compare that to current one and see if I like it. yeah I was a movie fan before an audiophile 🤣 it is an avr integrated amp, dac, soundprocesser indeed. lots of people over @ audiosciencereview say that if it measure well it will sound good, and the denon measures well so maybe I'm ok... but got that itch and was already eying the a8 as well and think when budget allows it I'll order it under a return policy to see if I can hear the difference! In your review you said that a dac paired to the atoll need to be juicy and not to bright/sterile, will I get That indeed from the a8? Less so from the 6 right? Thanks. I'll start making a new dirac filter as soon as I have time for it.
A8 is not particularly juicy but it is also not too bright or lean... It's one of those very neutral sounding DACs. It's open with plenty of air, but also smooth and natural. It shouldn't provoke any component in my opinion. But trying it with good return policy is a great idea.
I haven't heard Chora 826 personally, but if its tonality is in line with most focals I know - with very open and bright highs - then I wouldn't pair it with this amp and its DAC.
Imam Atoll AM200 Signature amp + Atoll ST200 Signature (streamer/DAC/preamp) + Dali Menuet zvučnike. Jako sam zadovoljan sa zvukom ali u pravu si, zvuk zna biti nekad (zavisi i o kvaliteti snimke) pomalo oštar. Zanima me kako ide Atoll zvuk sa KEF LS50?
Nice review. Compared to reviews I’ve read for the Atoll int200 the int100 is much more energetic and dynamic sounding compared to the int 200 which is surprising. I think the Int200 vs Hegel h190 would be a good fight.
@@justasimplefox Funny how it works out that way! I always instinctively assume the higher powered amp from the same manufacture would always be more bold! I too would prefer the more dynamic engaging INT100. The market is saturated enough with polite accurate sounding gear!
@@unklecorky2181 Indeed, having both amps I was also surprised but the IN100 is in my main set-up 🙂 I can't really fault the IN200 but I don't have have much fun listening to it
Yeh, rather strange to design a more expensive amplifier over the IN100 signature but without the authority and speed. I believe the IN300 is the one to get.
@@goutomdutta586 The Dali Oberon 3 has a nice open sound and it mirrors the Atolls qualities. Nice expansion in the midrange, lots of detail and transparency. If I can describe the sound, it's neutral veering slightly to the warm side. The Atoll IN100SE has a big soundand this suits the Oberons. No matter what I throw at it, these speakers always sounds good. Very strong on vocals and separation of instruments. Much of my listening is DSD256 via the SMSL network player but also SACD via Marantz player.
@@4ujase Thanks for your reply. I bought the amp and considering pair with the speaker. My concern is, I like good bass punch and crisp treble. Will this combo provide this sound signature? Do you use the built-in DAC? which you will prefer regarding the DAC?
@@goutomdutta586 Crisp treble yes, bass is good but not gut wrenching. Oberon's bigger brother Oberon 5, the floor standing speakers has a deeper more extended bass as well as crispy treble you seek but it will cost you more.
I read terrible technical reviews about atoll. The harmonic and intermodulation distortion produced on the outputs exceeds 5%, which is bad compared to competitors. Makes me doubt about the quality of this brand!
a lot of amps go up 50 - 100% 8 - 4 ohm's & i think a DAC option is ok, aslongas you can bypass it if required. also seems old fashioned, judging by the back panel; tape?! 🤣✌
Tape basically is an normal input. The tape output is a fixed volume output and is always on (except while mute). So indeed looks old-fashioned, but can be used normally. I use the tape out as feed for an external headphone amp, works great.
No sound is just a dark vacuum to me. Like putting on good active sound isolation headphones and getting that creepy feeling of nothingness. "Air" to me feels silent but not dark and like nothing, it's light and breezy instead, like a silent morning somewhere in the wild. It's natural silence that lets you register the space around you but not dead silence that feels like there isn't anything around you. Not sure if this makes sense to you, but it's my interpretation.
@@iiWiReviews You're very welcome, of course.
Regarding the remote, I have bought a programmable remote with only 15€. Problem solved! ✌
@@iiWiReviewsI have Kef Q350. It will pair well with Atoll IN100?
What speakers do you use with the in100 and which do you recommend?
Which DAC are you using?
@@tessie4204 , i bought the Dac Modul from Atoll and used my bluesound node 2 as Streamer for years, at the Moment i use the mojo 2 as dac
I recently was in searching for renewing my audio chain.
@Radu
OMG, you are a God send ! I am also looking for something to pair with my R3s. Is there someway we can connect to discuss this pairing ?
I am not sure that your impression is aligned with this review, as R3 are a tad bright.
Did you try out any Heggels ?
Hi. I'm french so I can tell you that you say "Atoll" just right👍😊.
Love your channel. Hope the best for you!
Thanks for letting me know that and for your good wishes. Cheers! 👍
@@iiWiReviews I loved your comment about French pronunciation, then I saw your name, it looks like something on a scrabble tray. Cheers!
Recently I discovered this channel via the Gustard review. I have added it to my favorite HiFi channels. Very good. 👍😉
I might instead consider the Proac range or
some similar French speakers.
so the buchardts don't match atoll? mads buchardt recommends atoll with his passive speakers
@@yaniv-nos-tubes Buchardts tend to have a slight peak in the upper mids which I can imagine would not gel well with Atoll.
@@iiWiReviews Ok, thanks for this information. I used the EIZZ EZ-301 binding posts, you have to bend them a little but not to difficult 👍
In short, the atoll IN 100 seems to me to be an amplifier for years and years of listening and is an excellent price-quality ratio...keep going Srbo 👍

Aria 906 might be different than most older Focals, or it simply suits your taste... Anyway, if it sounds good that's all that matters. Veliki pozdrav za Sloveniju! 🍻
Hi,
I am using an Atoll IN 50 Intigrated Amp as my (Power amp through Bypass Mode).
@@lekmannen9990 To me, yes. because, prior to this I was connecting my same Bookshelf speakers Rated at 4 Ohms and Sub to my Denon AVR 3313 in
(2.1 Stereo amp formation).
Just My Book Shelves (Xavian Mia ll)
Specs are:
Freq Resp 55 Hz to 44kHz.

I currently own a Hegel H90, so it was nice to hear how this Atoll compares to it. I may consider an Atoll in the future.
Switched from a Hegel h120 to a Atoll in300 just this week. It is another approach to amplification and a different feature set. For now still happy, let's see after some months of use.
@@robinr5787 hi Robin , how would you compare the hegel you had and the atoll now after some use ?

Nice, I use Atoll with Neat Xplorers 😊
Great video, we need more amp reviews! Especially cost effective amps
Wattage is not everything. I was fooled by that number when I started my HI-FI hobby a long time ago.
Great review. Do you think it can pair well with Linton's ?? Thanks
Nice informative review!!
Did exactly that, tame a bit the sound to my liking with a nuforce icon dac on my atoll in 80 se
Hi iiwi, I dont know ur plans but maybe could you check out the venture electronics megatron? It should be a killer class AB DAC/AMP for 50 bucks with good power for planars, something like VE monks between amps :D.
Hi Srboljub,
Your reviews are the most reliable for me due to the detailed and well-categorized way in which you talk about subjects.
Yours sincerely,
Augusto

Thanks men. Do you consider using it with kef r3 meta a good match. Do you have some suggestions for suitable speakers?
Do you recomend this amp for connecting to a PC with USB? Or is it slow with warming up because it is Class a and b.
It has a tape loop, so can add eq there.
I'm very interested in picking up the Buchardt S400 MKII speakers and think they would pair well with the Atoll amp. I've not heard them, but based on other reviews, they are a warm sounding speaker. Anyone here heard that combination?
Based on reviewed sound characteristics, it would be a good match.
can't answer about atoll but i have the mk 2 se for 2 weeks and they are very open with nice body in the mids, they project vocals forward in a special way ,great bass for a bookshelf. i'm happy with them ,not nearly broken in.ive noticed the highs are a bit far cymbals etc compared to my old b&w 686 for example, so ive turned my loki eq up at 8 khz and it worked so ive replaced the speaker cables from copper to silver now and i don't need the eq, so yeah brighter amps should be good and mads buchardt recommended atoll amps for the s400 in an interview with jay iyagi
Great Video and review! Would you think the Atoll fits to Canton Chrono 509.2 Speaker? Thanks
Using an Atoll in300 since this week, can't hear a thing from those transforners and they are huge. Perhaps lucky?
I didn't hear anything and I do have to lean close over it to change cables on the back. That will also depend a lot on the condition of power in any particular place. For example, my friend had some problems with Hegels and had to purchase DC blocker to put that to an end, but in my place all Hegels worked great directly from the mains.
My IN100 has less (almost nothing) hum compared to my IN200
Thank you guys for answering. Yes, power conditioning did the job in my case, too. Latest experience with the AM300 (I made use of these quite affordable yet capable enough "DC-Blocker" devices by Audiolab (IAG)). However, amps with torodial transformers from various other brands "did not care" about clean or spoiled by DC power from AC and remained silent everywhere I hooked them on.
perfect review! very clear in all your videos. compliments. how would you consider a pairing with monitor audio bronze 6? thx a lot!
I would avoid it. Somewhere in the video I mentioned MA as brighter sounding brand that I would not pair with this amp.
Which loudspeakers did Atoll sound best with in your opinion? 🤔
A little bit offtopic for this video... :)
I 've noticed Acoustic Invader Fulcrum and matching power amp in one shot. Can we expect a review soon ? I heard them at the Hi Files show last month and was impressed by the sound of that combination.
I will make a video about Fulcrum at one point. Can't say when exactly because I'm cramped with time and many reviews are waiting.
@@iiWiReviews I see you mention screening RCA cables. You think it affects the sound? Isn't the purpose precisely to prevent external disturbances?
Thinking this would be a great pairing with Tekton impact monitors
I want to buy the previous atoll in100se .i own some audiovector c2 mk2 that i bought new many years ago.will be a good match? Thanks.
I would go for A6 as a streamers and a DAC. Internal Atoll DAC is not my favorite.
Thanks!
Hi Srbo,
how would you assess compatibility with Dynaudio Evoke 30?
It should be a nice pairing, Zen Stream is a great sounding streamer.
@@justasimplefox What is the tuning about? That page is in german and can't find the info. Changing the binding posts?
@@wyup the tuning involved changing capacitors, resistors, ...all parts that mattered 🙂 but AVS Oymann recently retired so the business stopped
I will pair it with Fine Audio F501, what do you think?
Is it true that a pairing with KEF LS50 Meta is too bright? Any other recommendations for speakers?
Hi. I have Magnat Transpuls 1500 speakers and I ordered Atoll IN200.
I also have RME ADI-2 Dac fs.
Do you recommend using the built-in DAC or the RME?
I belive that ADI-2 should have a small advantage and slightly richer tone timbre.
Great review!
In your opinion and experience, can this amp work well with the Kef LS50?
It has great power and it drives them very well... But that combination falls on the bright side tonally and I don't think that most people would like it very much. Maybe if a darker source is used but those are not that common nowadays.
Thanks! That makes sense :) @@iiWiReviews
No good association
Straight Atoll Integrated with Cambridge Audio CXN V2 would pair well
hi, great video. how would it match the buchardt s400 mk 2?
looks great and i also don't paying for stuff i dont use like a phono or a DAC
Thanks
the Atoll operates in class A for the first 30 watts.
@@CS-bz9lk i would check with Atoll about that, review says different.
@@CS-bz9lk please check with Atoll about this. i have read that the IN 200 runs class A for the first 40W. let me know what they say
Pozdrav iz Slovenije...kako bi se slozio Atoll in 100 sa bowers 606 s2, ili sa Kef r700?
Hvala na odgovoru i Lp
Hi ! Is there any way to get smsl m500 mk3 to review, it seems interesting, thank you, very good interviews though...
Hello from Germany! what would you recommend. atoll in100sig or rega elex mk4. I have a small ATC speaker SCM7. thank you
@@iiWiReviews thank you
Hi Srboljub, (is this your correct name?)
Great review, thanks.
Hi, I guess you wouldn't recommend it for a pair of Focal Chora 826, right?
I haven't heard Chora 826 personally, but if its tonality is in line with most focals I know - with very open and bright highs - then I wouldn't pair it with this amp and its DAC.
Fantastic review! Very detailed and insightful! 👍🏼
I have Kef Q350...it will goes well with this amp?
can you test the ayima a07 amplifier.

Also my feeling, sound of IN200 is elegant but a little to 'polite'..

I am thinking about the combo. can you elaborate?
What about acoustic invader?
AI preamp and amp combo sound bigger and more 3D, also more dynamic without any harshness. But it is twice the price and without a digital section.

Sir pls reciew unison research unico primo
a lot of amps go up 50 - 100% 8 - 4 ohm's & i think a DAC option is ok, aslongas you can bypass it if required.
also seems old fashioned, judging by the back panel; tape?! 🤣✌
Tape basically is an normal input. The tape output is a fixed volume output and is always on (except while mute). So indeed looks old-fashioned, but can be used normally. I use the tape out as feed for an external headphone amp, works great.
Air is everywhere even when there's no sound...
Would moon 250 I be better.
