    As a French man, it sounds funny when you see that American people, in a world of large automobiles, powered by massive V8's can find pleasure driving one of the tiniest French production vehicle. Glad to see this sample in such a good shaped and loved. Kind regards.

      I used to work at a Garage in Los Angeles area called “SM World” that worked on Classic Citroëns. My late boss, Jerry Hathaway, was the world’s foremost expert on the Citroën SM. He was good friends with Jay Leno, and we would work on all of his Citroëns and Panhards. There aren’t many Citroën fans here in America, seeing them is extremely rare on our roads.

    In the Netherlands they were called ugly ducks, and you'd see them on every corner, just like the VW Beetle and the Renault 4 which all had their own typical sound.

    Tyres on a 2CV are always radial , since it started in production Michelin radial tyres were fitted. Michelin owned Citroen at the time.

    I have to admit that driving a 2CV is almost impossible to compare with other cars. Especially driving on an open day. That's really fun, and okay, they're not that fast, but you'll get there. It was another nice video report. greetings from the Netherlands😉🖐🏻

    Greased. Didn't mention the vital king pins or the knife edges. Top up spring boxes with caster oil. 2CV have always had radials. Originally Michelin X. 125 or 135. Stick to the pressures on the info sticker. Michelins suit the car better than Firestones.

      I was going to say the same about the tire pressures. An extra cold PSI for good luck never hurts, but too much and the footprint gets smaller and the sidewall more resistant to sudden changes in direction. The totals and front to back difference is because of the weight, tire's sidewall height, and often width and how it causes the car to remain comfortable and safe versus effecient and steady overall.

  • @alancourtenay2475
    @alancourtenay2475 11 місяців тому +3

    You would do well to stick to 20 psi front and 26 psi rear, the sticker is for a car with radial tyres (Michelin X).

    • @vanceblosser2155
      @vanceblosser2155 11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, the Michelins were likely tube type tires, I know they were for the majority of the production run but this one may be late enough to have had tubeless. And you can't use a non-Michelin tube in a Michelin tire as they will abrade from the flexing and blow out. The problem here is that with some brands of tubeless tires if you go to low on the pressure they can demount on a sharp turn.
      Regarding the engine snappiness, that engine sounds very tight so I suspect it's new or was just rebuilt and will take a while to wear in and develop more power.

    • @alancourtenay2475
      @alancourtenay2475 11 місяців тому

      I have a late model 2CV, from 1987, and the tyre pressure sticker is the same and it came from the factory with tubeless tyres. I do follow what you are saying, which does make good sense, I have a Panhard with tubed tyres, recommended to run at quite low pressures. @@vanceblosser2155

  • @blacksquirrel4008

    No, those are the correct pressures. Those radial Michelins were designed for that car and those pressures. They are the first production radials and the first car to come with radials. The little button on the dash tests the brake fluid warning light and the squishy button pumps washing fluid onto the dash.

    Please don’t forget to check/lubricate the suspension knife edges, and if the suspension cans are noisy then they need lubricating with vegetable oil. Lastly there is a small fuel filter in the front of the carb where the pilot jet (that gets blocked easily)

      As well as the gimbals. There are also what we call “knives” in the 2CV dialect: triangular pieces (quite difficult to access) located in what we call the the “lollipops” that connect the suspension arms and the “tie rods” linked to the springs in the suspension pots . Plus a few drops of oil here and there, like the clutch control cable and other joints.

    light cars don't need higher tyre (tire) pressures....20psi plenty for 2cv fronts (fatter tyres need less air pressure too) (quad tyres are 3-6psi!) 125mm wide Michelins better than 135s on 2cv....The 'club' was a 'later' model.. also front disks are usually later, drums earlier...but as you said easy to swap and disks / pads last longer than drums/shoes..they also work better...

    Proper tyre pressure is 1.5 bar / 20.3 psi at the front and 1.8 bar / 26.1 psi at the rear, according to a specialized 2 CV workshop. And always use Michelin tyres on these cars, they drive better and last much longer. By the way, do you know there are Michelin winter tyres for the 2 CV ?
