Crossing the CHESAPEAKE Bay Bridge TUNNEL & BOONDOCKING In West Virginia

- This week we cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and make a side detour to West Virginia. After last weeks BUSY travel schedule we are ready to slow things down a bit. We find a nice free campsite near Fayetteville West Virginia. As we are pressed for time (Florida Tiny House Festival November 22nd) we only have time to explore a small area, New River Gorge and Endless Trail. WOW!!! What a beautiful area....a definite must see!

@@oneadVANtureatatime the big RV is not ready yet so we'll be taking the small c out this trip. We won't be leaving out till the first of December. Hate we'll miss it.

I know this is an old video but I live in the DC area and from the bridge to to WVa is like a 6 hour drive, your video makes it look like an hour drive 😂😂. Yes WVa is all mountains and it’s a poor but beautiful state. Great video 👍🏼

Well pretty close, an underwater tunnel that boats sail over. Connected to a 17 mile bridge. It’s pretty cool stuff. They are working on another tunnel parallel to this one. Hope your having a great day, take care 😀

Thank you for filming beautiful scenes from West Virginia. I live in Hurricane WV, and our state is a beautiful place with so many things to do in nature and some really great national parks. So many people have many preconceived ideas of what WV is like based on what they know from media and fictional characters on TV and movies. We have our share of problems, like the rest of our country, but you will not find more friendly people anywhere than true West Virginians.
It was our privilege to explore your state. You are completely right about the media wrongly portraying WV. It was so much better then we were expecting. The whole time we were in the state I could not get the John Denver song out of my head 😂. I can only imagine what it would be like during peak foliage. We need to go back and explore more some time! WOW! What an amazing video. Just gorgeous. And that boon docking spot, how fun and perfect. That hiking trail looked super nice...A must do for sure. I should be writing all of these spots down in my journal. Think I will get that set up toady! That underwater tunnel was really cool too. I am trying to remember if I was on that. Took my sons to Virginia and we went through West Virginia in the 1990's. Loved the facts about the tunnel. The drone footage was awesome. You guys do such a great job with your travel videos. I enjoy every single one so much! xo

Many years ago I would visit a family members' cattle farm near Blackwater Falls. After seeing your video, I need to revisit wild and wonderful West Virginia.

Intrigued by your camera strap when you were hiking. Looks really secure. What is that?
+Jeff & Patti it’s called a camera harness. I really like it because it takes the weight off my shoulder and neck. It also comes with a secure strap that attaches to the camera ... that way if you were to drop it, it will still be attached. A must for me as I tend to travel with bigger lenses.Every time I try to go without it I regret not having it! I especially like it when hiking because my hands are free! I got it off amazon.

Ed’s father was in the Navy and we lived in Norfolk, Virginia in the early 1960s when Ed was a baby and the Chesapeake bay tunnel bridge had not been built yet and you will have to take a ferry across the Chesapeake Bay. Your videos are beautiful I’m really enjoying looking at them.

I’ve been on that bridge tunnel before, tolls were a little high. Amazing scenery at the campsite. I’m scared of heights so I’ll stay away from the edge. I could not of sat on the edge like that. LOL. Safe travels.

They were closed 😕 Would have loved to fly the drone on that bridge but not going to happen with the giant military base there 😆
@@oneadVANtureatatime that is sad.... but it does give you a reason to go back. I've driven that a few times. The car trips weren't bad but taking my rig across there always left me a sweat soaked mess

At the New River Gorge Bridge you were less than an hour from my front door. The Endless Wall Trail is amazing at peak colors. Plan to be here the 3rd Saturday in October some year. The bridge is open to pedestrians and the crazy BASE jumpers come from all over the world to jump off the bridge...Bridge Day West Virginia! For anyone who would like to enjoy the area, check out "Adventures on the Gorge". For bicycle enthusiasts, there is the 78-mile long Greenbrier River Trail. Hint: It's flat. That's just two of the wild and wonderful activities in this state. West Virginia is an easily missed gem. I'm glad you were able to visit.

Hi, it's Adam from Lake Superior. Great videos! If you are ever in that general part of the country again, I'd recommend looking into the cave systems of the Hawking Hills in Southwestern Ohio, near the WV border.

@@oneadVANtureatatime The caves there are more of a giant amphitheatre type, at the end of large canyons with good hiking trails. Google 'old man's cave' or 'ash cave'. There are a ton of them, and they are free public access. I'm not sure about places to vancamp, however.
Just an FYI - it is Hocking Hills in Hocking county, Ohio. I lived in Ohio at one time and he is correct that is a beautiful area. Lots of interesting places all over the state but I may be a little partial😊
Can you imagine seeing the gorge from a helicopter or small plane? Natures beauty at it's near best; best would have been seeing it with the fall foliage. Enjoy your videos and look forward to another video. I predict within the next three years, the both of you will become national household names for showing America it's beauty in nature. You may even get funding from the national parks/forest service.

You Guys I use to live 5 minutes down the road from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Va beach...I grew up there...so cool !!! I lived there for 33 years before I followed my Sailor hubby to Michigan...fast forward 20 years later..I am divorced and stuck in michigan LOL ....my girls love it here and my grandson is here so...I endure!! But that is my HOME Va beach!!! Love that you got to see the beauty of that bridge!! (Isn't it scary going under the water on the bridge )
Virginia Beach is awesome place. I got to go there twice in 1990 for training while in the coast guard. So happy Carrie and Roodle got a chance to see a slice of it. Michigan is pretty amazing I bet Virginia only seems better on those cold winter nights 😂 Those beaches are hard to beat though. Take care and stay warm 😀

The New River Gorge Bridge is not the highest anymore and hasn't been for sometime.
It’s classified as an “arch” bridge so tallest arch bridge in the northern hemisphere.

Wow you've done it again. Memories abound as my time in the Navy brought my wife and I together. We were married in Huntington WVA April 1976 and honeymooned at Hawks Nest State Park over looking such views and river.
Beautiful photography again and I bet you are glad you took time to see WVA. Babcock State Park has an amazing Old Mill still operational and the site of it would blow away any photographer.
