Rasch was composed in 1990 on commission of the Steirische Herbst and is dedicated to the Rascher Quartett. It is a fourfold commentary on an initial fragment taken from Soft for bass clarinet (1987) appropriately transposed to the extension of the saxophone that presents it for the first time. The form of the piece consists of nine manipulations of the same initial material that constitutes the exposition as well as the first manipulation, progressively transformed, filtered, condensed in a formal situation of progressive reduction and shortening of the articulatory paths.
