ngl, I thought parents cracking eggs on your head was normal. My mum would do that to me as a kid while we were cooking. If I wasn't paying attention to her while I was doing other things, CRACK. No warning, nothing. Egg got in my hair or on my forehead? Must've moved, so it was my fault. Just got to the point that I expected it. She didn't even do it for clout. Parents have been doing it for years, it's just now, parents get attention for it. Which is, granted, much worse.

I won't lie... Mildly surprised that they didn't know about Goncharov, considering how it broke containment and various news sites were doing stories on it.
yeah, that one and 'eepy' surprised me, i thought that everyone who was on the internet at those points in time knew about them. Goncharov especially, although i could just be thinking that bc i was really into it when it was a thing
I have an idea. It's less real vs. fake, but you should have people send in AO3 authors notes and figure out whether they updated the story or not.

YEEAAHHHHH GONCHAROV!!! MY FAVORITE MAFIA MOVIE!! I loved the scene where the dude's father revealed himself after everyone thought he was dead. It was amazing. The cinematography was GORGEOUS!!

One of my favorite things about Goncharov was when they claimed a Thai show (KinnPorsche) was a remake of Goncharov and then
1. People started claiming a real original show was a knock-off
and
2. People started thinking KinnPorsche was also fake
i love goncharov, i watched it recently and it really lives up to the hype. my favorite character was Sofia, (she's played by Sophia Loren) but Ice Pick Joe was pretty funny sometimes too. it really is the greatest mafia movie ever made.

Gonchorav was wild. People made fake posters, full on meta analysis of the symbolism in the movie. There were characters with full on motivations that were solidified.
You take tumblr, the "let's treat dumb discourse like it's the end of the world" website, and give them a fake movie trend. There was also fake discourse about the movie.
There is an Ao3 category for the movie.
There was... So much. It was wild.
5:34 As a Canadian who has learned French and maintained a barebones knowledge of the language with the ability to hold a basic conversation in the language, Dominic’s French is alright. It’s pretty in par with other Canadians who don’t know or maintain much French. I have friends who have grown up French from Sudbury and Kapuskasing who speak the language a lot better than me and plenty others. So again his French is on par with that of the majority of Canadians non-French Canadians.

Fun fact: I blocked the Goncharov tag on Tumblr because I felt like everyone else was in on a joke I didn't get and I hated that
Goncharov was really really cool, it was massive and there were so many people making really amazing art and music for it. Seriously there's a masterpost somewhere (think it was the Goncharov score mastepost) that links to *a lot* of the music made for it and it's legitimately really gorgeous music, would highly suggest looking some up
Not as big of a trend as some of these, but around the time Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves came out there were a lot of videos of people at the theater being asked what movie they were going to see and the camera pans over to show them all dressed as DnD characters, and it was hilarious!

hi! as a frequent tumblr user, I just feel the need to clarify the origins of goncharov. It didn't occur because people were trying to copy tiktok or anything (the part of tumblr I'm on HATES tiktok for its predatory business tactics) It started when somebody posted about one of their favourite pairs of shoes, simply because it advertised a Martin Scorsese film that did not exist, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense because
A) if you're going to announce your fandom interests, you'd likely put it on a shirt where it is easily noticeable; and
B) As a tumblr user I forgot the username of had pointed out, Goncharov did not exist.
Tumblr then became dedicated to clowning on this guy for the next few months as they Yes And-ed Goncharov into existence, complete with a themes of time and how we choose to spend our days on earth, and a homoerotic relationship between Goncharov and his rival. My favourite part of the meme was the shoe saying "Directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Mateo JWHJD715" which, as one tumblr user had put it "it's so funny we've agreed [that] is just a normal name, like yeah his mother was Italian and his father was a license plate."
I remember the cheese trend. It was figuring out a way to stop a baby’s crying by throwing a slice of cheese on them.
The only fake movie that I was aware of was zepotha, an 80s horror movie that almost got gaslit into reality.

real quick correction of a very common misconception: gonchorav actually started years ago on tumblr before zepotha. someone got a boot that said 'gonchorav' on it and said that it sounded like a non-existent martin scorcese mafia movie. that snowballed and now we have some of the saddest lore i have ever heard in my life?? it's also queercoded with the two ships being gonchorav x andrey and katya x sofia.
coleydoesthings has a video about it, but this lore goes DEEP. highly recommend it for the gays actually.
