I remember back in 2000, in Croatia, I saw Requiem for a dream in cinema and was completely mesmerised by it, it was like nothing I’ve ever seen. I became an instant fan of Aronofsky, but nowhere could I find his first movie Pi, no videostore had a copy of it. Mind you this was before you could find movies easily online. Then one day, I was going through the TV program and I saw PI would be shown on Slovenian TV (and I didn’t have that channel on my cable). I was calling my friends asking them if any of them have that channel. Finally one friend had it, and I asked him to record the movie for me on VHS tape. He gave me the tape, I put it in the VCR and the rest is history, PI was the most amazing rollercoaster ride and still one of my favourite movies!
A masterpiece of a movie but I'm not sure this is an IMAX experience. The first time I saw this movie I was about three feet away from my 19 inch CRT computer monitor with my gaming headphones on in the middle of the night in my pitch black bedroom at my college dorm. Even now I still believe that is the best way to experience this movie. Something about the old computer monitors and tube TVs that makes the quality of this better. I've since rewatched this movie on LCD and LED, HD and 4K screens and still it doesn't compare. Also the gaming headphones really immerse you in the sound design and all the intricate details in the ambient noise of this movie, you really feel Max's descend to chaos.
Wow that is a really good point and very meta. Still, I think it's worth it for others to try and would be an enjoyable experience, but your viewpoint is convincing and relatable
Ok, so I've played wind waker for game cube on both crt and on an HD tv and I get the CRT arguement. It doesnt look quite right on HD and it looks better on crt because of this and nostalgia. But how much part does nostalgia play? I mean I've seen a quick mockup of an AI upscaling of old footage to HD as well and I've gotta say it looks way better. Now A24 is one of my favorite studios and their quality of production is almost always on point so I trust them with a remaster. I think it's safe to say youret correct, but that WAS the best way to watch it. But it's been remastered by masters, so I think this will take the cake.
So the way i need to experience this film is by going to college, finding a 19 inch crt monitor, some shitty old wired head phones and staying up all night? Got it.

Originally it was released by Artisan Entertainment (now Lionsgate). Now as you may know, the rights of the film were transferred from Lionsgate back to the director who sold it to A24, which I think is a very intriguing move. I’ve never seen it before yet, but heard it’s a great masterpiece and a great start to Darren Aronofsky’s directing debut. I think “Kids” (not an Aronofsky film though), one of the most controversial films of 1995 that would later take inspiration to “Mid90s,” should be A24’s next move to re-release in 4K, having screenwriter Harmony Korine who wrote it directed “Spring Breakers” (also A24)
I love A24 for bringing this to Imax. I hope they do other movies like this. Just to see some of these gems on the big screen would be amazing.

Yooooooooo!!! Let’s goooo I’ve been dying for a 4k version of this
Edit: 8k?!?!
props to the release date, shame it couldn't be released in 2015
Man this film is incredible, just like every Aronofsky film by the way
Wow I just looked him up and had no clue he did Black Swan. Now I gotta watch this.
Oh thank God, I was worried someone was trying to remake it. This is great, more people should have seen it.
This is one of the best films ever made. Period.
I've seen this movie when it was in cinemas the first time; I have recommended it to my friends, if they wanted to listen to me or not. Now I notice that the protagonist's maths professor was Hector Salamanca! The circle closes!
Sabia que en algun momento A24 y Darren Aronofsky harían una buena combinacion, tanto para peliculas realistas como para peliculas experimentales
Si, lo hicieron hace mucho tiempo en el pasado jajajaja esto es un reestreno en calidad imax
I remember watching this movie when I was like 9 years old.
I gotta say, it's one of the first, if not THE first.. movie that really got me into filmmaking/ editing.
I constantly loved doing the black and white/ high contrast videos, so it shows in the vids I made back in the day. 😅
IMAX?! This was shot on 16mm.
Yeah. I wonder how they're pulling that off.
Pi is one of the best feature debuts and shows the raw talent of aronofsky
Hector Salamanca knows the equation for making great meth
It is great that A24 decided to bring this back!!
It's awesome that π is now technically the first ever A24 film.
I think “Kids” (not an Aronofsky film though), one of the most controversial films of 1995 that would later take inspiration to “Mid90s,” should be A24’s next move to re-release in 4K, having screenwriter Harmony Korine who wrote it directed “Spring Breakers” (also A24)
@@joeyjoe308_Kids_ is Larry Clark, famous in his own right.
This movie…shoestring budget. And it’s perfect.
How is this A24 when it’s 25 years old
Darren probably allowed it to re-release
A24 bought the film from Aronofsky. Not everything A24 releases is produced by them.
I reckon the grainy look is part of the movie's appeal, getting rid of it might not be such a grt idea.
I LOVE YOU A24!
So happy to see aronofsky works remastered and put on IMAX, this is gonna be awesome
This movie's pretty great I'm excited, but the trailer just reminded me how absolutely bonkers amazing the soundtrack is.
damn i was hoping this was the badass sequel to life of pi
Don Salamanca: "This is insanity, Max!"
"You are tearing me apart, Max."
One of my favorite movies of all time. Crazy that A24 is bringing this to light.
What an insane movie that I really need to see again. It's been 15 years probably
Man, I haven't seen this film in about 15 years. Definitely a good time to rewatch it.
Wow. A24, you guys are genius to bring this back!!!!
For a moment I was scared you guys might have remade it "for modern audiences".
I love your movies and everything. I really had the dream of working with you.
I rewatch this trailer every week. It’s such a vibe
This is the best Aronofsky movie IMHO. A trip.
I brought it on video, and it also came with the soundtrack on CD.
I can't believe it's 25 years old!!
so glad you guys are doing this, really excited.
This is my number one film pic every time and probably always will be.
This is one of the best underground movies I have ever seen. One of the best.
Great to have it as a Birthday, for the past 66 years.
Thank you A24 for introducing me to this movie, I’ll check out the og one first before seeing it in the remaster
Masterpiece. Movie and soundtrack 👌👌👌👌👌
This is one of the best movies that I have seen in my life....looking forward to watching the remastered version
I love you A24!! Thank you for bringing this back!
Cant believe theres people that havent seen this movie. Im a fan of most of Aronosfky's library.
The fact that they made a movie about a number gives me life
Classic. Excited to watch it again.
I just watched this film recently and it was so good! Definitely recommend it.
