Yeah it sounds great and is reliable like matthew said. I find it feels much better if you put the pad on another hard surface. Also, certain sticks don't feel as good on it to me, but I usually practice with McNutts and those feel great You can get a laminate for a slim pad too for like $20. If you end up getting a slim pad and desire a more articulate and responsey feel, it's worth a shot! I used to have one and I loved it
