Just few corrections to the darktable processing:
    - you can't go back to those steps in history as you showed, e.g. going to "original" will not disable the default processing (only those few steps on top) as those steps are needed to make the image from the raw data (as the original is not an image but raw data)
    - don't use "shadows and highlights", it's old obsolete module which works in lab and is not recommended, so your image will fall apart much sooner than e.g with tone equalizer or instances of masked exposure module

in DT it is not supposed to go back to this stage of the processing pipeline as mentioned in this video. After doing preliminarily corrections one can use any of the 2 tone mappers ,ie sigmoid or filmic rgb. DT default pipeline is scene referred. Tone mapper convert scene ref pipeline to a display referred. for dodge and burn we can use either exposure module or the tone equalizer module with or w/o mask as necessary. exp/tone -equi module can be used below the tone mapper module or above the pipeline ; if it is used below use in default scene ref or above use in display ref , preferably.
