Beautiful ... A match made in heaven Rossetti and Bert .. Only it was made here on earth .... God bless them Both .. Angels that walked the earth .. Thank you for posting such beauty
The story behind the carol: In the bleak midwinter. "This exquisitely melancholy and evocative carol, imagining the Nativity in a snowy Northern landscape, was originally written by Christina Rossetti as a Christmas poem for an American magazine, Scribner's Monthly, in 1872. ... In the bleak mid-winter, Long ago". Bert played this at a winter's gig in Glasgow 1975.
What a Xmas Song one of my favourites too bad very short, hard to believe it's 1975 and Berts got mean vocals his guitar playing is superb classy indeed play it every year this time despite we opposite in every way in a Bleak Mid Summer it suxs jealous of top of the World and the meaning of so many Xmas Songs wish i figured it out 25years mite of made a move
Should get the props it deserves as another form of Christmas Carol, anyways Happy Holidays and Hanukkah and all of that Merry Christmas Everyone all over our World
Very understated, but too low in the mix, at least on my crappy phones. I also think it might be Jan Akkerman - I am just old enough to remember what he looked like even from that bad profile, but really, most of the 'lead' work is Bert himself playing up the neck while singing. A lot of these are signature licks of his. For the record, the other two blokes are Grossman and McTell
Never heard this until about a month ago. Struck a deep emotional chord with me immediately.
Glad to see and hear this. Adding to my Pentangle collection. Thank you from Alaska.

Who the fuck is rosetti
One of the finest artists in one the finest of arts.
Dropped D tuning. I saw him do this live in Glasgow in 1974... a long long time ago!
Yep, Drop-D and capoed at the second fret.
Is it drop D or DADGAD?
@@ianwatkins9602 just drop D

God bless you Bert.Nice to Ralph keeping quiet for once.Come on you Putney boys.
Lived in Putney most of my life. Was friendly with Ralph McTell. Saw Jan Akkerman play at the Half Moon where Ralph did some drinking!
Putney? Jansch was from Glasgow, like Mark Knopfler, like half the Australian charts 😉
and the brilliant Jan Akkerman on extreme left.
Good call 👍🏻
And very special guest Mr. Jimmy Page
Unfortunately he's been in hiding for about 50 years.
try make out what the guy playing the lead bits is playing... it's really interesting stuff
I think that's Focus'(that hard rocking yodel band) lead guitarist Jan Akkerman. I like how he's not overpowering Jansch's part. Very respectful.

@@robertnewell5057 Yeah it is Jan.
I'm sure it's not, but at 10 seconds the guy to the far left playing a guitar with a cigarette in his mouth looks like Focus guitarist Jan Akkerman
And so he is
Mmm! I thought it was John Redbourn.mctell, also.A roomful of talent!
Closer look. I stand corrected, well spotted, sir.
@@trevorflarty1811 Very true, but if it was Bert Jansch alone it would still be a roomful of talent.
That was positively NOT recorderd in Glasgow in 1975. Total BS. Why would I suggest that? Simple... I was THERE, and this is NOT Glasgow.
This was recorded for DR ( Danish public service TV ) in Folketeatret in Copenhagen - the program was called "Fire [feer-e ] ( four) Guitarer" ;-)
just find a better recording...... there are many out there.
