    What a blast from the past! i had one of those exact players when i was 16 until i was 19, and i used it till it stopped. I worked with sheet metal and i made speaker mounts for my bedhead so i could put the speakers in it. That was so good to lay in bed with the music directly behind my head. I can't remember where it actually went, or what i did with it, but hey! that could be my old one.. Great, now back to the video, I'm at 27:06 and a little to go!

    Nice restoration. You can download and print out a stroboscopic disc to check turntable speed using the 50hz flicker from your lights.

      Thanks Steve! That's interesting! I did have one of those discs once - I should have kept it!

      @@TheUltimateRecycler Yup. Among other things. Got a '63 Magnavox tube amp phono on my bench as we speak.

    I though it was playing way to fast. Then I realised I was watching it one and a half speed. With diecast cars, we sand the plastic windscreens and dip in floor polish. I seen a UA-cam who builds 1/25 model cars. He paint the whole car in floor polish. Plastic look brand new with floor polish. It appears to last a long time. Cheers Graham

    Cool fix! I'm always scared to touch these because of the mechanical parts, but I wanted you to check those old capacitors 😆
    I'm surprised the app gets a good reading when the phone must unbalance the turntable a bit, but the way the number rotates to stay readable is very clever!

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Nebby - I didn't bother checking the caps as the amp appeared to work fine. Yeah, I thought afterwards that the speeds were probably a bit slow due to the weight of the phone as well. It's probably not an accurate test for a small turntable, even though it is a cool app.

    Great video, thank you! 😄 I’ve just found one of these left behind in my house and i’m trying to fix it up. Luckily no motor problems for me - but it’s coming through super crackly - do you think it could be an issue with the stylus or tonearm?

      Haha, I don't think I've ever bought WD40! Remember I clean-out other people's sheds & houses for a living - and just use what I find! It was probably a much better formula back then!😊👍
