The CalDigit dock you showed in the video is a ThunderBolt dock, not USB-C, just to be clear. Very nice video. And the monitor looks. pretty sweet. I had a similar 34" Dell ultrawide and it was very nice.
I just sold this for the Cooler Master Tempest.... it's actually even better. Maybe not quite as stylish (close), but amazing connectivity and 4k @ 144hz with freesync. Colours and HDR is mindblowing too. This Dell is great... but I'm just offering up an alternative here.
Thanks for making this video! Built in KVM is exactly what I could use right now. I might just get me one of these. I'll make sure to remember to use your link :)
it also comes with Dell software on MacOS + Windows so you can adjust brightness and switch monitors without touching the actual hardware buttons. Love it!
As a Software Developer who stares at code all day aka text, the scaling is a big deal for me. I don't understand why more manufactures don't make 27" 5k monitors Samsung announced their 27" ViewFinity S9 which looks like a Studio Display clone and I can't wait to see what the price is and how it compares
I also have 2 of them in use with an MDS19 holder from Dell. The features are very good, even 10 Gbps/Lan, and I save myself a Thunderbolt dock, which either costs as much as a U2723QE or annoys with high-frequency beeping. I only have 3 small criticisms: - no speaker (somewhat bad ones are enough for system sounds and the occasional YT video), but that doesn't bother me, as I output the sound via the MacBook and switch to the Homepod when necessary - the included stand is stable, but depending on the desk, vibrations are amplified too much - it reflects a bit strongly for a matte display, especially on dark surfaces / dark mode I previously had the cheaper S2722QC but the U2723QE was worth the extra cost!
I bought the 27" QE last year, but sent it back, since it's scaled at 1080p by default on a Mac (which is ridiculous nowadays), or way too small - unless you're born with eagle eyes. The 32" model is much more enjoyable on native 4K with MacOS. Only the menubar and System Preferences are hard to read. Everything else is scalable and crisp enough (around 140DPI). The 32" stand is also sturdier. I ended up buying a U2722DE as a secondary display, since they share the same design, to replace a 2012 1440p 27" Ultrasharp, which still works.
Hopefully I did not listen to those bullshit comments regarding the scaling issue with a 27inch 4K monitor. Using a 2560x1440 resolution is perfectly fine, the text is super sharp and the monitor quality incredible for this price range.
I think it pays to wait for the 5K Samsung viewfinity S9. HDR600 - covers 99 percent of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut. It can charge laptops at up to 96 watts. Bonus Tizen TV OS. Built-in color calibration. And a screen stand that doesn't dance.
This monitor is genuinely amazing for productivity type work. I was looking for a monitor that doesn’t have text grain when set up next to my Mac and this is it. Resolution between Retina display and this now is barely noticeable to me when switching back and forth. It isn’t for gaming definitely but the 60hz is not noticeable either for daily productivity or regular work. I’ve had it for 3 years and I won’t be upgrading anytime soon.
Finally this great display is getting some love. I purchased the 32 inch version of this several months back and I have been really enjoying it. At the time I was shopping, I had so much trouble finding information and comparisons including this series of monitors. I can firmly recommend the U3223QE for using with a Mac Studio.
Is there a monitor with similar features for mac (usb c, kvm switch, 4k), but with higher refresh rate? I got used to higher refresh rate and now cant stand 60hz
Mhm, the biggest thing that bothers me is the IPS panel and fake black. weren't there some mini LED and OLED screens with 120hz up and 1000 nits up that were shown at CES? I can't wait until we see more of them in the 27 to 32 inch range. Use the predecessor to the Dell in your review as a work monitor and yes, as you say, is ok, for home use and here work and entertainment I would prefer true color worlds, true blacks and better refresh rates over a HUB. And I have hoped we will finally see more in this field. For me, colors and contrast are the highest values for consuming or looking at anything in the web, of course with fast timings and hopefully in the future with fast refresh rates and high nits(by still staying color accurate). But it’s not getting cheaper if we still think that IPS Black or TN Panels are still enough.
Have you experienced the monitor going into standby mode when the Mac is asleep but keeps scanning for inputs every few minutes? If so, is there a way to change that?
I have to say that for Mac users, it's nice that there are several options with the screen size of 27 or 32in. What I now want to see companies do is make monitors that can fit tighter workspaces. I.e., I'm currently using a 23.8 in. QHD monitor by Lenovo. For what I'm doing with my MacBook Air, it's perfect. Got a 75hz refresh rate, connects via USB-C, but it's got an HDMI port (for my Switch), and a DisplayPort (for my PC). And two USB-A ports (I have a light bar, and a Lightning cable connected). If it had a 144hz refresh rate, it'd be a perfect monitor.
The Dell Ultrasharp U2723QE is a uniquely special screen, with extra exorbitant first-class picture quality and technology. If the production date, batch and REV number are the latest, then even better.
I went for the similar 1440 version of this, the U2722DE, and I’ve been quite pleased. It’s plenty of crisp without the scaling. I am glad that Samsung is releasing a 5k 27” to get us Mac users a true retina resolution.
It is better for Windows users to stick with 1440p on 27 inch, because 4K on 27 inch will need scaling which has caused so many issues with blurry elements on screen in the past.
@@pkennethv I'm just saying that because I've tested this display on m1 Macs, I haven't seen it with intel macs for example, so maybe with those the display looks fine. On my display, 27 inch 1440p, my M1 MacBook has the letters blurry and it's kind of difficult to read. Apparently, this display does not meet the standards for the retina Mac requirements, so it just does not work. On the other hand, windows looks fine on this display, because they use the ClearType software that modifies the font a little bit so it does not look blurry. So, either you go with Mac, that respects the fonts exactly for appearance reasons and does not display correctly on this display, or you go with windows, that modifies the font slightly to support many screen resolutions and sizes, but is not truthful to the real font.
I just ordered on of these to pair with my new M3 Pro MacBook Pro. The other monitors I considered included: Samsung M8, LG Ultrafine 4K Ergo monitors (27" and 32" models), Alogic Clarity... The Alogic Clarity seems to have the best display, but it is more expensive, and I'm not going to be doing photo editing or video work. I already have a 32" LG display in another room, and find it to be slightly too large on my standing desk. The desk that I am buying this new monitor for is slightly smaller, so I definitely wanted a 27" monitor this time. But what won me over to the Dell U2723QE model was the hub. Specifically, the ethernet port is a great addition. (Why don't all these other models have ethernet ports?) These days, many people buying these monitors will be using them with laptops, so having a one-cable, USB-C (to the laptop) solution seems perfect.
Hi everyone, can someone consult me on backlight bleed on 08:36. I got one myself and it also has around the size of backlight showing-up is it normal or should I take it back? Just concerns me if this is not manufacturer fault and it should be totally clean without this. Thanks for response
Price is one thing. But one should remind themselves about longevity. I bought the U2711 back in 2011 (or 2012?). I still use it as my secondary minitor today. It has lost brightness and color accuracy, but is okay as a secondary screen. And that one was 700 eur back then. Getting this Modern one for 500 eur is a steal. I am aiming to get the U3223QE during black friday this year.
I keep my 14tb of disk backups and 4tb of external SSD's hooked to mine, with velcro on the back for the ssd's. Takes two second to plug them in or grab them to go to a shoot, and you never see them or any cables. Pretty great plugin in just one cable, and the daisychaining feature looks pretty cool if you want a dual monitor setup.
Hey G'Day, I have the same setup right now (fresh new MBP 14 Inch M2 Pro and Dell U3223QE connected through USB-C to USB-C), wondering did you experience any random flickering when you're in clamshell mode (closed lid) ? I just suspect about the cable that shipped with the monitor and considering try a Thunderbolt cable similar to your setup now.
I’ve been using my 5K retina display based iMac since 2015. Finally jumping into the M2 Max Macbook Pro/Windows Gaming PC hybrid setup with a dual screen. Was eyeing this monitor and this review has essentially sold me on it. Excited to have 2 of these as a part of my setup!
@@gosman949 well that’s kind of obvious 😅 I’m not paying 1500 for an almost ten year old panel in some shiny new housing though. I don’t use the built in speakers ever I never use the built in webcam It doesn’t make sense to go for an Apple Display for me especially since Im using the same dual display setup for a MacBook & pc hybrid setup. What 27inch monitor under $800 for color grading & casual gaming would you recommend?
Great review. After watching this video, I think I may actually get this to replace an older Dell 2407 WFOHC monitor that I'm still using. I've been very happy with my old Dell monitor so why not try another.
I have 2 of the 27 inch monitors, they’re great and I run them with my 2019 Mac book pro 16 inch. Only problem is Mac’s are horrible at cooling so I’m looking for solutions to keep the temperature down on my Mac when running both monitors
I'm still rocking a 27" Thunderbolt Display with my M1 Pro MBP. I think I'm just gonna wait and save for a Studio Display whenever i'm ready to upgrade.
I have this monitor. i find the placement of the connections on the bottom of the monitor to be extremely annoying. Really wish they were on the back of the monitor instead. I agree that the hole in the stand for the cables to pass through is too low, but I am using a vesa arm so that's no longer an issue for me. One other annoyance is that the Dell Display Driver software seems to constantly have updates (good that it's being updated, but annoying to install updates weekly). Other than that, it's a good monitor.
I want this, but at 120hz. Why doesn’t that exist.. as soon as you want a higher refresh rate you enter the gaming marked which isn’t always color accurate and doesn’t have usb-c passtrough. I do motion graphics and new media arts and just want my screen to feel as natural as possible
@ it does indeed 😁. I plug in one usb-c port from the monitor into my MacBook (m1 pro) and I have a 4K 120hz screen, my whole setup is connected trough the usb hub in the monitor and my MacBook is charging. Love that 😁
I’m still a bit confused about the purpose of the Ethernet port? Does this provide network access via the single USB-C connection to the monitor? Also, does it factor in the KVM switching, or is it exclusively for the USB-C monitor connection?
I had 2 replacements with the U3223QE inch monitor and it keeps flickering on a specific dark color every time! I have tried different cables, talked with dell, and everything. The flickering even persisted when there was nothing connected. I want to love it, but the flickering completely destroy my experience.
I have this same issue with my 32" Dell 4k monitor. It is one of the S series, but same problem, when a large part of the screen is dark, particularly if it's a browser image, it flickers. I can minimize the window and bring it right back up and it stops, but it's pretty annoying. I've gotten use to dealing with it by not using dark mode and it is a more rare occurrence now, but it's definitely a wider panel issue with Dell and not just the U series monitors. Also, it has only happened with both my MacBook Pro and Mac mini. It's never happened when connected to a PC, so for me at least it's also a Dell/Apple issue.
How does it compare against the LG Ultrafine 4K? I dont care about gaming, just design work and research. Possibly some video work from time to time. Which is better value?
All I can say is, wow. The display is really eye-catching and 3D-like given the clarity, connected to Mac Mini and Mac Studio. Even though they were probably the base model in the Apple Store, the M1 chip and M2 chip are so fast. Lightning fast, could say. Wireless trackpad so smooth and enough space to move your hand around, and here I thought using a regular mouse was great, but trackpad even better. So much more 'finger-real' estate. Such cutting-edge technology, even the Apple Watch, one of the most amazing tiny pieces of tech today. Robots may be a different arena but they sure cost a lot. I don't consider Apple products too expensive anymore, in that the price point seems more fair than say in 2007. For some reason maybe because of the large area of the Apple Store the Apple Display is so thin with narrow bezel and vibrant it seems larger than how it may be in a small room. It looks so much like the new iMac. I would give the 2022 (or 2023) Apple Display 10 out of 10, one of the best displays I ever saw. Much like those Sharp Aquos displays that cost thousands, some of the sharpest and clearest display technology that really looks great in the not-so-gorgeous concrete and steel interior of a warehouse-style retailer.
I bought the 2022 version of this monitor and the plastic menu button/stick on the back of the monitor broke and there's no way to fix it or order a replacement. There's no way to control the menu without this menu button and dell won't cover this under warranty.
Can you confirm: I have a Macbook Pro 2021 M1 and am wanting to set up two monitos. Can I use the monitors when laptop is closed. Do I need any extra hardware such as a router/dock? Do you see any issues?
I'm using MacBook Pro 14" with M1 Pro, any of you have idea whether I can connect 2 monitors in DSC using this laptop? And what ports to use for this config?
Im currently looking at monitors and am stuck at a crossroads between 27 inch 1440p vs 4K. If I understand correctly for 1440p I can choose to use the default monitor resolution since it is close to 110ppi. Wondering what scaling are you using for this monitor as I heard the default is virtual 1080p for 4k monitor but the icons in your video don't look overblownly big like what I was expecting.
Does it cause your MacBook Pro to overheat & become noisy like the Dell 2720Q? The only option I had was to close the MacBook Pro. The 2720Q also feels a bit (too) slow when editing photos and videos, has this gotten better? For me these two reasons are deal breakers not to get this new version. Mac's graphical cards just have an issue dealing with all the pixels.
In case you need a monitor for MacBook and gaming, take a look at the M28U ~$500 4K 144hz (with great response time) 15W type-c (so unfortunately you would have to connect the the charger) 2 HDMIs 2.1 DP
If you’re using an Apple device, you should get a 5k monitor or something with 2560px width. Otherwise you’ll have to scale the resolution and this will affect the performance of you computer
I'm currently trying to decide whether to get this one or the Benq PD3205u for my single monitor desktop setup (mac mini m1). After all it's a 32" 4k display. Mainly for office / programming with occasional PS5 adventure gaming. Any suggestions? Thanks
What cable are you using to connect video and power to a MacBook? I am trying to use this monitor with my new MacBook Pro and the USB-c to USB-c cable provided power but no video and the usb-c to display port cable provided video but no power. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I think I might have just found my second display. (I have a studio display now that I love, but dont' want to spend $1600 for a second.). This checks all the boxes and seems like it will sit nicely on my desk.
It would be good if you to mention that the daisychaining function relies on Windows or Linux. macOS, at least up to the current version of macOS Ventura, does not support multi stream transport - the display port feature that allows for daisychaining.

Love it!
The LG UltraFine 24" 4k monitors are also an option and fantastic.
As a Software Developer who stares at code all day aka text, the scaling is a big deal for me. I don't understand why more manufactures don't make 27" 5k monitors
Samsung announced their 27" ViewFinity S9 which looks like a Studio Display clone and I can't wait to see what the price is and how it compares
Right there with you; I am glad CES showed a couple more options with HDMI. I can finally connect a console lol. Only wish they where glossy!
@@seanb7443 curious if after market companies will end up offering a glass replacement 😂
Having proper retina displays coming is great. Basically everything else isn't worth looking at.
Have any other 27" 5k monitors been announced? Seems impossible to find a reasonably priced monitor that even gets close to my Macbook

How did you manage to answer all the questions in my mind in one video? You are great!!
Most useful monitor review I've come across in my recent days of searching. Doesn't feel biased, and it's thorough. Thank you!

LG is good 💪🏼
I bought 2 of these to have a dual monitor setup, cost me lots of cash, but I feel relieved, satisfied and enjoying them so far!
Coming from another Liam, your content has been awesome! My go-to channel for anything Mac related. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Liam!
From Liam
Hehe
I also have 2 of them in use with an MDS19 holder from Dell. The features are very good, even 10 Gbps/Lan, and I save myself a Thunderbolt dock, which either costs as much as a U2723QE or annoys with high-frequency beeping.
I only have 3 small criticisms:
- no speaker (somewhat bad ones are enough for system sounds and the occasional YT video), but that doesn't bother me, as I output the sound via the MacBook and switch to the Homepod when necessary
- the included stand is stable, but depending on the desk, vibrations are amplified too much
- it reflects a bit strongly for a matte display, especially on dark surfaces / dark mode
I previously had the cheaper S2722QC but the U2723QE was worth the extra cost!
Wow, just got this monitor to my wife and didn't know half of the features you mentioned! awesome video! thanks a lot
Just got this monitor on the boxing day sale. Much better than I expected honestly. Excellent review as always!
I've had the Ultrawide version in 2021, with 3440x1440. The connectivity is top notch and so is the picture quality in terms of colours.
The most informative review of this monitor, thank you!
Thanks for the review. watched a bunch on your channel. settled on this for my use case. hope I'd be able to get it someday 🙂
Finally this great display is getting some love. I purchased the 32 inch version of this several months back and I have been really enjoying it. At the time I was shopping, I had so much trouble finding information and comparisons including this series of monitors. I can firmly recommend the U3223QE for using with a Mac Studio.
What scaling setting do you use, and how is text quality with that scaling?
He fell in the toilet

Bro that bump on the macbook got me crying..
it shows the usage, it's a work horse, it get's worked with
Does it only come with matte display? I cannot. Only glossy displays for me.
Is there a monitor with similar features for mac (usb c, kvm switch, 4k), but with higher refresh rate? I got used to higher refresh rate and now cant stand 60hz
Yes, the Gigabyte M32U or M27U. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t get either one of those over the Dell that’s capped at 75hz.
1:46 is that a dent on the top middle lid, how? and what made you choose the M1 MBA over the M1 MBP prior to owning the 14 inch MBP
I just returned the dell P3223QE because too much flickering after few hours of use with macbook pro m2. Has anyone experienced this?
Have you experienced the monitor going into standby mode when the Mac is asleep but keeps scanning for inputs every few minutes? If so, is there a way to change that?
This is a great video review! I just purchased this monitor. Thanks
If it had a 144hz refresh rate, it'd be a perfect monitor.
another great video offering information for buying decisions, keep more coming please
After using 16 inch Liquid Retina XDR its hard to take a good monitor to pair with that Mac.
It is better for Windows users to stick with 1440p on 27 inch, because 4K on 27 inch will need scaling which has caused so many issues with blurry elements on screen in the past.
awesome! Thanks for pointing out there's a 1440p version of this display!
MacOS looks awful on 1440p 27 inch displays, at least from the M1 version onwards
@@aitorperez8301 What’s different/changed with the M1 gen onward, compared to prior in the context of using them with 27” 1440p?
Can the HDR be turned off? I need to color grade in SDR without the monitor adding some stupid processing on top
(Why don't all these other models have ethernet ports?) These days, many people buying these monitors will be using them with laptops, so having a one-cable, USB-C (to the laptop) solution seems perfect.
what's your experience so far?
The next version should have higher refresh rate with vrr support and built in speakers.
Excited to have 2 of these as a part of my setup!
they will not be as nice as your 5k retina! Poor choice.
@@gosman949 well that’s kind of obvious 😅 I’m not paying 1500 for an almost ten year old panel in some shiny new housing though.
I don’t use the built in speakers ever
I never use the built in webcam
It doesn’t make sense to go for an Apple Display for me especially since Im using the same dual display setup for a MacBook & pc hybrid setup.
What 27inch monitor under $800 for color grading & casual gaming would you recommend?
@@TheGallagherExperience There is not one. You need to spend at least $1500.
Great review. After watching this video, I think I may actually get this to replace an older Dell 2407 WFOHC monitor that I'm still using. I've been very happy with my old Dell monitor so why not try another.
Importante: Daisy Chain through DisplayPort isn’t available for MacBooks, just thunderbolt chain.
Biggest problem with that monitor, is that Daisychain two monitors don't work on MacBook Pro.
I have 2 of the 27 inch monitors, they’re great and I run them with my 2019 Mac book pro 16 inch. Only problem is Mac’s are horrible at cooling so I’m looking for solutions to keep the temperature down on my Mac when running both monitors
Hi ,how did you connect them ? Daisy chain or separated cables to the Mac?
I use the 2020 version in my work setup! Looks like great upgrades all around.
Picked this up after watching your review! So far so good
I'm still rocking a 27" Thunderbolt Display with my M1 Pro MBP.
Is it possible to use a non Dell-Monitoram (VESA) directly with this monitor, without an adapter-plate?
@@oliver.n278 Yes. That's what I use... a VESA monitor arm.
I want this, but at 120hz. Why doesn’t that exist.. as soon as you want a higher refresh rate you enter the gaming marked which isn’t always color accurate and doesn’t have usb-c passtrough. I do motion graphics and new media arts and just want my screen to feel as natural as possible
what did you end up buying?
Philips 279M1RV and I really like it 😁
@@davidzwitser thanks that looks very good. Does it work well with MacBook?
@ it does indeed 😁. I plug in one usb-c port from the monitor into my MacBook (m1 pro) and I have a 4K 120hz screen, my whole setup is connected trough the usb hub in the monitor and my MacBook is charging. Love that 😁
I’m still a bit confused about the purpose of the Ethernet port? Does this provide network access via the single USB-C connection to the monitor? Also, does it factor in the KVM switching, or is it exclusively for the USB-C monitor connection?
Thoughts on the 4323QE? No gaming needed. Thanks. Also looking at the LG 43UN700
I had 2 replacements with the U3223QE inch monitor and it keeps flickering on a specific dark color every time! I have tried different cables, talked with dell, and everything. The flickering even persisted when there was nothing connected. I want to love it, but the flickering completely destroy my experience.
Same problem on my S2721. I'm guessing it's some sort of design defects of the display panel
Omg yes. I have the same U3223QE monitor plugged to my M1 Pro, and the flickering is making the monitor borderline impossible to use.
This! I used my brother's 4K Dell for a month, and from time to time it flickers like crazy. Wanted to love it... but it's not worth 300 bucks
How many ghz it has, when you connected it to the macbook pro? 60 or 144 or 120?
I bought the 2022 version of this monitor and the plastic menu button/stick on the back of the monitor broke and there's no way to fix it or order a replacement. There's no way to control the menu without this menu button and dell won't cover this under warranty.
Lol. “Studio display is better in build quality, display, speakers and camera. But that’s pretty much it”.
Yep, that’s ALL of it 🙃
Except for the cost, agree.
Oooh, ok. This might sway me from my 32" ultrawide. I'm digging the 4k in a 32" format with built in KVM.

Very informative video 👍
Im currently looking at monitors and am stuck at a crossroads between 27 inch 1440p vs 4K. If I understand correctly for 1440p I can choose to use the default monitor resolution since it is close to 110ppi. Wondering what scaling are you using for this monitor as I heard the default is virtual 1080p for 4k monitor but the icons in your video don't look overblownly big like what I was expecting.
which did u choose in the end?
Pls tell us what you chose, Im in the same position. And apparently QHD version U2724D is 120hz
As a 4k 27" monitor, how does it handle "scaling" with a MacBook?
In case you need a monitor for MacBook and gaming,

It would be good if you to mention that the daisychaining function relies on Windows or Linux. macOS, at least up to the current version of macOS Ventura, does not support multi stream transport - the display port feature that allows for daisychaining.
