Thanks for mentioning the BCB fire dragon. I've been using the old German folding stove for many many years, even back when I was in Boy Scouts and rocking the old C-rations. I'm definitely sold on the fire dragon & tabs!
OUTSTANDING!! I have 99% of the necessary gear! I'm moving to Missouri this summer. So I'm definitely going to next year's Winter Forge Training! I'll be able to watch this video to make an accurate list of everything necessary. Plus I'll bring a few extra things that I usually end up needing when I go winter camping and hunting. By the way Brent, I'm pretty sure I know where you got that MARPAT marshmallow suit top. If the label says Brooklyn Armed Forces on it, you got it from Sportsmans Guide. I have the same one in Multicam. And I'm pretty sure Sportsmans Guide is exclusively selling that jacket in Multicam, MARPAT, and maybe Woodland and Coyote. I can't 100% remember. But if you check your tag and it says it's made by Brooklyn Armed Forces Co. Then you know you got it on Sportsmans Guide. Mine is one of my favorite winter jackets! Because it fits loose enough to get some serious layers under it without restricting your movement. Which is hard to find when you're a tall big guy that's over six foot tall. But I also have shoulders and arms bigger than a lot of body builders. I've been physically active and exercising my whole life. So my frame and muscles are bigger than your average bear. By the way, I do have the official Gen 3 level 7 primaloft marshmallow suit. But the jacket I bought from Sportsmans Guide, which I'm pretty sure is the one you showed. Saying not to ask where you got it from. Is definitely my favorite of the two! Now I wish they would make a Multicam or MARPAT marshmallow suit pant bottom. It would just make more sense. Either way, great video! Looks like an awesome training experience! I'm definitely going to get there come hell or high water next year! Let me know if I'm right about the Brooklyn Armed Forces tag on your MARPAT jacket in this video? Thanks again!!!🤜🤛🦅🇺🇸🦅
I bought a set of waffles top and bottom in the ACU off white color for less than just the waffle top in coyote color. Definitely deals out there. Also the ACU foliage green polartec fleece watchcaps are way cheaper than the USMC coyote ones.
Dress light during movement, Hydration, and your ISOMAT is a insulating life saver. And remind the COMM GUY to put his batteries in his sleeping system at so his body heat keeps them warm. Semper Fi
@@Brent0331 Hey Brent! I have some suggestions for future live stream topics that you and your panel may be interested in discussing. 1. If I remember correctly, it was the stream you all did about the Kyle Rittenhouse trial where you made a good point on the merits of an individual going with a more tactical look as opposed to a civilian one. I think it's a good idea to debate the disadvantages of the military appearance alongside the advantages of being the gray man. For example, Bruce mentioning the fact that wearing camouflage is illegal in some countries is a pro gray man argument. 2. Topic number two is Latin America in general. This includes many subtopics whether it be about not just the border crises that you've already touched on but Mexico overall, Cuba, Venezuela, Columbia, or any other Latin country and the many problems that exist in those places. A live stream about this would be helpful because I have acquaintances from that part of the world who I'm trying to win over. 3. Number three on the list is survival kits from EDC all the way up to bug out bags. I know you all have already touched on gear to some degree and there are already countless other sources on the subject but I'd like to get a more in depth take from your panel on the matter. John made a recent video reviewing a new shoulder bag. A discussion on haversacks would also be appreciated. 4. The fourth suggestion I have is revisiting old topics or events. American involvement in Somalia and black hawk down, piracy, Waco, Ruby Ridge, or Pablo Escobar are a few that come to mind. We use to hear about them all the time but it seems as if most have now forgotten. 5. I have a question about One Shepherd and I apologize if I missed where someone may have already addressed this problem. What is the plan for all the One Shepherd members to mobilize if there happens to be some national catastrophe? Are they suppose to meet up at your Missouri or West Virginia location? If so, what is the plan if not everyone is able to make it to those locations?
Great video. There're several videos making the rounds about Ar15s freezing up (particularly the magazine release) when exposed to water in extreme cold; any thoughts on how to best mitigate this?
J L, great question! First, we need to keep water or moisture build-up out of the weapons. A huge threat is the transition zones between cold-wet and cold-dry. Wet Cold range is between +39 to +20, This zone is characterized by heavy wet snow and rainfall. Freeze/thaw cycles are near-constant. Keeping your weapon dry is the biggest way to mitigate any issues with freezing or breaking the weapon. In Cold-Dry conditions (Dry Cold:+19 to -4), we don't have to worry about rain or snow melting or even the moisture in the air in terms of our dry weapons. Condensation from sweating is our biggest worry here. Condensation forms on weapons when they are taken from the cold into any type of heated shelter. This condensation is often referred to as sweating. Weapons will continue to sweat for 1 hour when brought into a hot tent or vehicle. When the weapon is later taken out into the cold air, without being dry, the film of condensation freezes. This is especially serious when it occurs in the internal parts of the weapon, and stoppages and malfunctions result. When time permits, wait one hour, remove all condensation, and then clean the weapon. Any opening that allows air to enter can also be a condensation problem area. Normal lubricants thicken at low temperatures, either fully stopping the weapon or having sluggish action as a result. During the winter, weapons must be stripped completely and cleaned with a dry-cleaning solvent to remove all lubricants and rust prevention compounds. NOTE: If your weapon becomes corroded, you can put a temporary finish on corroded exterior metal surfaces, use solid film lubricant (SFL), except on moving parts and stocks. Here is the general military guidance on small arms weapons in the cold; Replace CLP with LAW when anticipating operations at temperatures below -10° F. Below -10° F, CLP fails to provide proper lubrication to individual and crew-served weapons. Remember there is a difference between lubricants becoming sluggish and lubricants freezing... CLP freezes at - 35 degrees F and becomes sluggish close to 0 degrees F. LSAT freezes at 0 degrees F and is sluggish close to 20 degrees F. LAW (Lubricant, Arctic, Weapon) is good from 0 degrees - 65 degrees. Often LAW is not available or if you are in a condition that makes cleaning LAW an issue, use weapons-grade graphite is used. If you do not have the right lubricant for the temperature, fire the weapon dry. I hope this gets at your great question!
Alcohol Wipes are better as alcohol won't feeze until about -50F, and they're a great de-greaser to wipe down with and get all the nastiness off the hair and face.
What bump helmet is that? It seems all the bump helmets I find online are either almost as much as ballistic helmets, or they're just some basic skateboard helmet.
@@Brent0331 Yes it is, thanks. Another question, what did you attached to the knife sheath or is an special sheath? Beacuse it has a pocket for the multitool.
Those cold weather aviator gloves are the shit.. I loved mine. Wish I didnt have to turn them into CIF. I used them in real world cold weather military ops and they worked awesome.
The Russians carry sitpads on pistol belts. when they sit down it's already there and when they move on it's always with them. DIY with a piece of an old foam mat and duct tape in the field ;-)
I just got a Swiss winter poncho, plain white and synthetic that will take a gray or pine needle green breakup, or both; just use Krylon paint that is OK for plastic/rubber/etc. Super cheap but extremely durable!
Hey Brent, You should look at some Canadian military surplus fleece pants. The new old stock in OD green are the most OUTSTANDING! Piece of winter kit. Very thick fleece and durable as well they are cheap on eBay. In fact the only 2 differences between the old version in OD green and the new CADPAT ones are: 1.) The CADPAT Camouflage pattern 2.) It has a quarter zipper at the bottom of each pant leg.
Great info , I use pretty much the same gear here in Canada during winter , only difference being most of my gear is Canadian Forces surplus. One suggestion I have regarding footwear is to look into cold weather overshoes (Neos is a very common brand of these) they are designed to go over the top of regular hiking/combat boots when conditions turn nasty and the regular boot isn’t up to the task. Another great thing to carry is a hunters foam sit pad , can get them at cabelas / bass pro for under $20 and they also fit perfectly to the inside of an Alice pack frame against your back.
Hey! I got my notifications! Nice!!Steiner Binoculars. Top notch. All I use. Threw the vortex’s in the trash! And now USO scopes only. Life to short for cheap. 🧐. Hell never snow where I live. In the deep dark pine barrens!
I have found, when working outside with your hands (especially handling metal objects), if the temp is below about 15F, you will want mittens, and if below 8F, you HAVE to have mittens. Below 0F, you probably need mittens with thin gloves as a base layer.
Good info. I almost froze to death using that green USGI sleep pad. I was using the MSS sleep system so the bag was good. I strongly suggest a sleep pad with better R value if sleeping under the stars in < -5F temps. Something with an R value of 5 or 7 would be better.
Six years of winter camping as a boyscout, in the Sierra mountains taught me to use two pads ,if possible and hay or pine branches, if you have permission.
Hi Brent, about that folding stool, wouldn't it be simpler to get isomat for your butt for use out of camp? I believe you can find like small piece of sleeping mat covered in fabric and just hang it from the back of your belt kit or around the waist on it's own narrow belt.
You could use a small pad for sure, just like some of the Ruskies do. That stool is for the rear, not carrying it with my fighting load. Stool is a lot more comfortable to sit on that's why I take it.
for your thoughts, folks love hot chocolate, I started using whey protein powder and tried something. Using hot water from the tap I mixed the chocolate protein powder slowly. No clumps, tastes just like 'swiss miss' chocolate ,and mix. It offers all that extra for the person in the field. I switched out my kit to now carry this powder in a nalgene bottle instead of hot chocolate mix.
Hey Brent from all the gear can you mail a video of what you personally put in your pack? I’m assuming you didn’t take it all because that seemed like it’d be a pretty tight fit for the that sized pack, please and thank you.
@@Brent0331 Thanks bro. I was able to get 2 pairs of the boots, both brand new unissued. 1 pair are Wellco for $35, the other pair are Altama for $28. Also got the booties brand new for $9. Can't wait to try them out this winter!
On your video that you did on the Crossfire Mark VII pack you stuffed a bivy sack, summer bag and poncho liner into the bottom of the pack. Is it big enough to also fit the black winter bag as well? I watched that video over and over again and finally convinced myself to order that pack. I'm hoping it will be here this weekend.
Hey Brent. Long time infantryman first time commenter here. I was skimming through and didn't see the portion where you address the overwhites in the video. I'd like to source a set like that and can't seem to find them anywhere to include (especially) the ruck cover. Thanks!

For winter camping in the Boy Scouts we would invert our canteens so the ice formed on the bottom the canteen and kept the mouth free of ice.
That looks both cool....and chilly, at the same time.
Both for sure!

Look forward to training with you!
Most Excellent! Thanks Brent!
Thanks for watching.
I bought a set of waffles top and bottom in the ACU off white color for less than just the waffle top in coyote color. Definitely deals out there. Also the ACU foliage green polartec fleece watchcaps are way cheaper than the USMC coyote ones.
Crazy isn't it! Good gear at a steal.
I’m headed to Bridgeport for mountain warfare training in a couple weeks, this video will definitely come in handy. I’m also a 31rah devil.
Semper Fi brother
Dress light during movement, Hydration, and your ISOMAT is a insulating life saver. And remind the COMM GUY to put his batteries in his sleeping system at so his body heat keeps them warm.

Ur the man, Brent! Great job as usual...💪
Thanks brother
As a prior 31 squad leader Id love to train with one of the OG’s
Good vids man🤙

Instead of lining with oil, use grease; grease has a lower freezing point than oil
@@brendencroup8310 We're instructed to use Lubricant, Arctic Weapon below +5F.
Dont get it wet lol
Here is the general military guidance on small arms weapons in the cold;
Replace CLP with LAW when anticipating operations at temperatures below -10° F.
@@lightfighterstudiesgroup2012 Awesome reply - thanks so much!
Great Video and a moisture wicking base layer is key...
Thanks
Wanted to point out, baby wipes have a tendency to freeze… may want to carry them on your person in a pocket on an interior layer..
Alcohol Wipes are better as alcohol won't feeze until about -50F, and they're a great de-greaser to wipe down with and get all the nastiness off the hair and face.
Great vid, Thanks
Cold weather insulating helmet liner (7 3/4). Woodland, OD, or black.
Good stuff as always brother!
Thanks brother.
Can you recommend Good camo choices for missouri
U can always use the trench shovel as a stool.....the Army uses it as well but puts it upside down.
Yup, using "The E-tool method" to take a shit is a thing.
@@Brent0331 yes sir....an Older Marine taught me that....I'm surprised u didn't catch my Army joke....lol
Thank you for the information.
What bump helmet is that? It seems all the bump helmets I find online are either almost as much as ballistic helmets, or they're just some basic skateboard helmet.
So do you wear your wool sweater over your waffle top or do you wear one or the other?
1:19 Base layer, waffle layer, then woolly pully.
@@Brent0331 Awesome i just snagged one off ebay
Good video as always marine
2A❤️🇺🇸❤️. Let’s go Brandon FJB
Bro I appreciate your video and I've watched you for many many years now but there's no way I'm leaving my kids behind to go fight something
So do you use the synthetic or the wool as a base layer?
Which utility knife you use for this scenario, Ontario Combat knife? Great video, keep it up. 👍
I believe its call the OKC Marine fighter.
@@Brent0331 Yes it is, thanks. Another question, what did you attached to the knife sheath or is an special sheath? Beacuse it has a pocket for the multitool.
@@RobertoGonzalez-vu1ip Different sheath, I believe it was made by Spec Ops.
Sus pin comment 🙂
Those cold weather aviator gloves are the shit.. I loved mine. Wish I didnt have to turn them into CIF. I used them in real world cold weather military ops and they worked awesome.
Wish I could get time off to go to this! Some of the best practical content out there, thanks for making it Brent and team!
Same weekend every year, see you in 2023?
Winter forge or not…This is good information for folks who live in the real world where it ain’t summer all the time.
Foliage green might be considered sнit coloring by some, in the high deserts of Pacific Northwest, it matches plenty well the scrub and rabbit brush.
I’d be hesitant to use a gorka this year because it has been so mild/wet. They are 100% cotton so once they get wet you’re screwed.
The Russians carry sitpads on pistol belts. when they sit down it's already there and when they move on it's always with them. DIY with a piece of an old foam mat and duct tape in the field ;-)
Yeah.
I've seen turkey hunters use something like that.
Yup, I've seen that too.
I remember Les Stroud did something similar years ago with leather and wool blanket.
I'm Russian. Use Stuff. It's good.
I just got a Swiss winter poncho, plain white and synthetic that will take a gray or pine needle green breakup, or both; just use Krylon paint that is OK for plastic/rubber/etc. Super cheap but extremely durable!
Can I just say, I think you do the best gear layout videos. I love watching these things.
I think that it's the instructor in him, leaking out!
Hey Brent,
You should look at some Canadian military surplus fleece pants. The new old stock in OD green are the most OUTSTANDING! Piece of winter kit. Very thick fleece and durable as well they are cheap on eBay. In fact the only 2 differences between the old version in OD green and the new CADPAT ones are:
1.) The CADPAT Camouflage pattern
2.) It has a quarter zipper at the bottom of each pant leg.
Thanks for your suggestions brother.
I have 2 jackets/sweaters and a pair of the pants they are great. The mitts and parkas are also great for extreme cold
The foliage green fleece is warm I love it.
Great video, big fucking hello from Czech republic!
Thanks for watching
Great info , I use pretty much the same gear here in Canada during winter , only difference being most of my gear is Canadian Forces surplus. One suggestion I have regarding footwear is to look into cold weather overshoes (Neos is a very common brand of these) they are designed to go over the top of regular hiking/combat boots when conditions turn nasty and the regular boot isn’t up to the task.
Another great thing to carry is a hunters foam sit pad , can get them at cabelas / bass pro for under $20 and they also fit perfectly to the inside of an Alice pack frame against your back.
hands, feet, neck, balls; extra socks warms them all.
I like to bring along a big fat juicy slab of whale blubber to snack on when I'm on those long cold winter patrols.
I bring beef tallow
Sorry bro but im from Cali....we r not built for the cold....if a civil war breaks out I gotta fight wearing a tank top and sandals.
You boys can keep the snow
Slepted on ice and I hiked through snowfall at 9500 feet in the Sierra Nevada's in June
No thanks never again
Hey! I got my notifications! Nice!!Steiner Binoculars. Top notch. All I use. Threw the vortex’s in the trash! And now USO scopes only. Life to short for cheap. 🧐. Hell never snow where I live. In the deep dark pine barrens!
Man, I fell down the rabbit hole researching and buying some of this gear
Yup, whole new world that most dont know.
Its great that you mentioned the sweaters, I wore my Army 5- button sweater up through 2016 when I got out.
Yup, great piece of gear!
Gorka made from special cotton, but from cotton, this cotton wetting long time, but drying long time, gorka is not usefull for winter
Thanks Bret. Winter is a must for training
Bought slot of surplus at Bananas Army Navy store good prices rock n roll
Would love to go,but at 66 bod does not work well in cold. Hands stiff, knees hurt.
You can always kill something and sit on it until it gets all cold and stiff.
Supply list please. Can't find it on Amazon lol
Ditch the stool for a Russian butt pad
What's the weight on all that gear?
Thank you very much. 👍💯
Love your work sir
Great Review.
for your thoughts, folks love hot chocolate, I started using whey protein powder and tried something.
Thanks Brent!!!
Vinnie
Where did you get that 100% wool ski mask?
Surplus store in S. California. They're out there, not uncommon.
Watch out for Bigfoot... He was seen in that area!
Thanks for making this video! Been wondering what gear I need for cold environments.
Hey Brent from all the gear can you mail a video of what you personally put in your pack? I’m assuming you didn’t take it all because that seemed like it’d be a pretty tight fit for the that sized pack, please and thank you.
Question about the ICW boots with the bootie inserts. Are you supposed to just get this boot in your normal shoe size?
Yes, normal boot size.
@@Brent0331 Thanks bro. I was able to get 2 pairs of the boots, both brand new unissued. 1 pair are Wellco for $35, the other pair are Altama for $28. Also got the booties brand new for $9. Can't wait to try them out this winter!
Excellent video. Thanks.
So... I think, but haven't tried it yet. I took the old school heavy canvas bag last year and that fit.
@@Brent0331 Thanks
