Excellent information and good advice!
great information, thank you Stephanie
Thanks again. After Monday's mental health, I have this appointment on Wednesday. I have Dupuytren's Contracture in both hands. right dominant hand has two finger's down and the other, one finger down (bath hands stage four). I will come back after and let you know what tests they made me do. Can they really deny me with both being very visible? I am 60. Oh dear. You are a blessing.
All depends on the full medical file and your vocational profile - but it sounds promising. At 60, if like me, you have other aches and pains or body parts not as strong and comfortable as when you were 20 - so don't forget to work up/treat/diagnose THOSE impairments too. They effect some job tasks, such as, perhaps being a lumber jack (heavy work)... and other physical jobs... fingers crossed and God Bless You.
Good info right here
Thank you John
Thank you for this. It’s so hard to try not to be super woman for being that for so long. But I totally understand what you’re saying. My appointment is in exactly 2 hours and I’m so nervous but your video helped out so much. Thank you for taking the time and making this video for people like me who are applying for disability.
My pleasure. Good luck!!
Thanks for the information. I have mine scheduled for July 9th 2024. I was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). I had disability all my life until i recently lost it because I've worked above SGA two years ago. I'm currently in the reinstatement process. Wish me luck 😊
A wish and a prayer!
@@AllThingsSocialSecurity thank you 😊
@driveCore how did it go? I have mine today and my anxiety is going crazy right now. 😩
@Dimples411 it actually went pretty well. Things went pretty smooth. The doctor was very nice and I hope yours will be too. I pray that things go very well for you. No need for panic or anxiety. You'll be fine 👍🏾
@@Dimples411 all the best of luck to you!
Thank you for what you do! My physical exam is tomorrow, im so anxious and have no idea what to expect . What do i wear? I usually wear dresses as they are light and hurt less to wear ,especially if strapless, is it ok to wear a dress for physical exam?
Can’t speak of your specific situation, but I generally think one should wear what works for their best functioning either their disabilities, and not try to look better than they are while torturing themselves to look a certain way. Take care of and be you.
Thank you! Great advice. I went yesterday and it went well I think. The doctor actually said to me " honestly I don't even know why you're here. It is ridiculous they're putting you through this!" I'm really hoping this helps my case and the fight is over soon but I'm still too afraid to get my hopes up.
I have mines on Friday. 😢❤ little bit nervous
Good luck.
The secret to answer every question "yes, but....."
Right Dande! If it is a yes or no question but you know the Y or N should be qualified in order to be more accurate, use the "BUT"! Same is true on Function Report!
My biggest problem is that after having a stroke I need naps very frequently. I can often work an 8 hour day, but not the next day. Doing more than 30 hours a week or doing over 20hours a week every week would be impossible. How do I show that?
Medical Evidence development is how. That occurs via treatment records. Your attorney can guide you on what things you can proactively pursue with your doctors (or new ones). You also need to make very clear at every visit, the limitations (not so much how well you are doing, which is of course relative to what the terrible alternative could have been.)
You seem to know an exact limit - is this a guess or have you worked a 30 hour week. Also remember you have to prove you are unable do full time hours at a simple genteel, even sit down, job. Your Rep will have guidance, so be sure to inquire (although ideally he would have already driven this advice home.)
@@AllThingsSocialSecurity the stroke was 2018. since then i've tried lots of different things but never reached over 30 hours and near that level, many of the hours were in solitude. i was living on a commune, so all of the work was fairly low stress. i had to move because my demeanor became volatile. basically I have a short temper now because i get frustrated and angry quickly. I cant live there anymore. i don't know how to prove this, even with representation. I'm with quickaid. they don't really interact much.
Oh, right. I don't know them but sounds like they are not lawyers and may just be a company that files the docs you fill out, and cross fingers. You MUST focus on the medical treatment and records - post stroke treatment for fatigue/stamina - durationally, or a chronic fatigue specialist, onoing... and go to mental health for the coping adjustment issues and be very open with weekly counseling. ALL wins generally depend on ROBUST, FREQUENT, treatment/following/therapies with specialists.... where you tell them what continues to be limiting and seek help long term.... what we say, because talk is cheap, does not hold water without. By law, the foundation the SSA is required to follow is the medical records. @@trailguy
I had a psychiatric eval
This video was helpful. My wife also has a Physical CE exam Saturday morning, and it says the exam will also focus on internal medicine. What does that mean and is that normal? She just did the 6 minute walk test now this is coming up saturday.
Internal just means your basic GP - aka physical exam, not mental. Yes, that is standard.
The biggest issue i have is, im paralysed and have severe crps in my left upper extremity. And i dont have help or the financial backing to go the doctor i cant work and dontnhave insurance but they want records monthly i cant do it. Having to fight to stay alive and have to fight SSDI cause im 36. Bullshit. They scheduled my physcal exam and mental health exam in the following weeks. Lets hope i can get some good news. Very corrupt system.
Apply for state medical assistance asap, it is free. If denied, appeal and keep pushing for it. If you are able to work, say, 5-10 hours/week (county/state vocational rehab agency may be able to help find something you can do if not bedridden, but you indicate paralysis so probably that is not do-able?) in order to buy yourself some health insurance, getting that Medicaid is imperative. (You can't prove medical impairments if you don't see a medical doctor, right?) Different locations have different criteria for state health insurance, and it might be that moving to a different state/location would get you the health care you need.
Being paralyzed suggests you are wheelchair or bed-bound full time and I am very sorry for that. If that is the case, medical confirmation of that, along with diagnoses, can help; going to ER if pain gets very bad can be a bit of a loophole to at least get you in front of a doctor to confirm you are non-ambulatory, wheelchaired, etc - and it can potentially get you the evidence you need. The CE exams will also be helpful for a doctor confirmation that you are paralyzed. Make sure of course that a safe driver gets you to the appointment, confirming that you are not able to drive yourself, given the impairments. Also, getting a certified statement from your caretaker where you live, confirming you can't physically do XYZ can also help. The prescription for wheelchair by the doctor - big. If your drivers license was revoked due to being medically paralyzed and obviously unable to drive, get that documentation as well from DMV. Many pieces of evidence like this, that are non-medical, can help.
Remember, you need to prove that you are not like other 36 year olds who can do some sort of job full time. The reason why you need to prove it with medical evidence is that if we didn't have to do that, all 36 year olds would file and receive benefits, disabled or not, and there'd be none left for the disabled 36 year olds. I think your biggest need is strategizing to GET health insurance. If it means moving, it means moving, or else you will find yourself in the same boat next year.
If you are only eligible for SSI, you technically can keep refiling. If you are insured for SSD, remember you only have a window of time before that term insurance lapses, due to lack of continued premium payments (paid via our SS taxes on our paychecks). So you can't really delay getting evidence, treatment, etc, or you will lose out on Social Security.
You can do this.
I have to take pain pills daily, gabapentin, hydrocodone, and muscle relaxers. Do I take these before my appointment?
Ah, that is a good question. And I don't actually have an answer. Some people find that the need to focus to answer their questions, and those meds prevent, and so they can't take because the want to participate more accurately. Others don't think they can get there and participate due to pain, without the medications.
But of course the SSA is likely interested in how your treatment, including medications, affects your ability to function b/c they are instrumental aspects of workers continuing to be able to work. It is a bit of a catch 22.
Hey! I was sent to a physical exam and almost 3 weeks later they sent me to another physical exam/ X-ray. Is that normal?
Yes, if you don't have somewhat current Xrays, they do try to assist in that way, if for no other reason, to confirm no fractures. Doesn't make it helpful, of course.
Are we able to request a copy of the exam ?
There is usually a page for you to put your dr's name/address for a copy, if that is what you want. If you have an attorney rep that does a lot of SS work, she can download it from her ERE access as soon as it is posted. Other wise, requests tend to fall on deaf ears, but you can try.
I didn't have to or wasn't asked if I could zip , tie or button. But my back is the issue
Have you seen the report yet? I wonder if your examiner through in a conclusion about that one way or another?
@@AllThingsSocialSecurity I just did my appointment Monday, so no not yet.
I was asked to hold my arms with my eyes closed. WTH??? I know it was a trick.my appointment was @ 0900 am. I waited close to 3 hrs b4 the doctor saw me for about 10 minutes!
That wait is unacceptable. The arm holding out could have been to check for vertigo etc. When something like that wait occurs, I complain to the DDS. In writing to a manager. But that is just me... Won't change your case but that contractor doctor needs to go.
@@AllThingsSocialSecurityabsolutely. Sitting that long is impossible for me. I can’t believe a disability doctor would even have a patient wait that long. Smh
@@Dimples411 Actual treating doctors have their patients OFTEN wait an hour or more, even though they are 'regular customers' with appointments. A CE is not a treating doctor, is not paid well, relatively, so I am not sure I'd expect anything different - if this is what you are referring to.
They told me six to eight weeks
Wow! The CE person himself said that to you? That suggests he has a very poor response time. Ouch for him.
@@AllThingsSocialSecurity after my psych and med eval. The lady at counter told me that
@@AllThingsSocialSecurity is it possible it can come earlier
@@RuthKec Yes.
Ask for your copy of your Exam. Well it might take some time. Tell them you will wait. Dont leave without having it in hand.
Don't leave WHERE without having it in hand? The CE doctor office? Or the field office?
I do not generally recommend any claimant go in person to their field office; even less, hang out and wait like they are well enough to do so. There are contact reports that end up in your file, like a little spy sheet :).
@@AllThingsSocialSecurity yes the ce office. It's your right to have the report in hand before you leave.
@@robertbailey116 Wow, that is new to me, especially since they often take days. Do we have a right to a cot and 3 hots also ? I am kidding. But seriously, I have never seen such an SSA rule so I'd appreciate, as I am sure others here will also, if you link us to the RULE that so says you have a right to stay there til the report is done, to get a copy. Remember, citations, citations, citations lest we lose credibility, right? Thanks in advance. I am happy to do a video on it if you can find the link I can reference.
@AllThingsSocialSecurity let's not forget who's in charge. This system belongs to us who have paid into it and all involved work for us. However be educated and be respectful and kind.
@@robertbailey116 Yes and WE the people made the rules that we must live with them or push for our Reps to make different law. We can't argue against something we the people put into legislation or failed to, right?
If anything this is one of the times when pride will once again prove to be a sin. This time it is a sin you commit against yourself. Humble yourself and show the doctor what they need. Don't mask any of it if you can avoid it!
Can't disagree. But for those that don't align, that pride regardless of what they consider it, can and often is a downfall for claim. Just be yourself but start expressing candidly with medical providers, if before, one was a nose to the grindstone, non-complaining worker bee type. Now is the time.
