Nice video 🤟. Thank you for sharing it. While climbing to the top of the castle you can enjoy the best views of the Costa Brava and Empordà Region :)

Well done for the climb! You can really see the Middle Eastern influence - great castle, great video.

Thanks for watching. Yes, the Middle Eastern vibe is very evident here. Might also be mixed with the Moorish influences from the Iberian Peninsula 👍

I hope you enjoyed your visit/stay in that part of Catalonia! I've just discovered you page and subscribed to it as I also love visiting/discovering medieval castles and buildings! Was about to mention that close to the Castle of Montgri there are also other interesting places to visit like the Greek and Roman remains of Empúries/Emporion but just realised that you already covered it in your videos, so other place to mention close there are the Iberian town of Ullastret, the Citadel of Roses and Sant Pere de Rodes monastery, to say a few. Another recommendable visit in the area of Girona is the old town of Besalú and it's fascinating medieval bridge, these town at about 60 Km from Montgrí.
Another medieval castle worth to mention is the Castle of Cardona, a very well preserved one and at about 180 Km westwards from Montgri. The country is plenty of medium to small castles in various stages of conservation, but whether their walls are still standing or only few piled stones remain, they surely worth a visit and all of them are in my bucket list!

Those all seem like great suggestions. One of them we'll be covering in a few weeks! We loved our visit to Catalonia. We stayed in the small town of Portell, near Guissonna in the province of Lleida. One of the main attraction points to us were exactly those many ruins we found listed on a great website, Catalunya Medieval. We definitely want to return some day to discover more.

@@TheHistoryHikers Glad you enjoyed! The area you stayed in is plenty of small villages some of them looking as frozen in time back in the medieval period, with good examples of fortified houses, small castles, walled villages and a few watch towers; for example, between el Portell and Cervera there's Montfalcó Murallat, a small castle atop a hill, besides the road that links both places.
Also Cervera itself has very well preserved medieval walls being a quite important centre back then, and there's actually the "Ruta dels Castells del Sió a la Segarra" (Route of the Castles of the Sió in the Segarra, "Sió" being a small river, a dried up stream in their upper part, which vertebrates several villages and hamlets in the comarca of la Segarra), this is an area which I quite know as I use to go there biking (btt).
      Regards,
      Jordi 👍

Yes :D we visited Montfalco (didn't film) and had a lovely time. A bit deserted in November, but still nice to see. We went as far as the Congost de Mont-Rebei which was just stunning too. There's so much more we have pinned on our map to see in a future vacation!
      Regards, Jente and Dries

Neat castle, I would give it an 8 as well, looks like the hard part is done already if anybody wants to finish.

True that, couldn't be too hard to put a roof on the thing

I score 8.5 mainly because the state of preservation of the shell seems exceptional. Why do you think an incomplete shell is in such a good state of preservation with most of the wall stones in perfect condition? Is it because nobody attacked it, or there was no roof to fall in and mess up everything, or why? It's an interesting question to think about. It looks like a very warm hike. Cheers to you guys!

I'm actually curious why the locals didn't tear it down to build houses, that seems to be the biggest killer of castles from our experience 😅
