I mostly make items for babies so when she said her niece was eight I was a bit apprehensive. So, she said could you make her a skirt or something and I had not checked out skirts...i found yours and it's quite simple, so I will be making her one. Will let you know how it turns out.

She is turning the work and working backwards each round (like a regular straight block, back and forth) which is why she doesn't need to slip stitch and chain 3 and keep going. I would make this skirt like you suggested. It would make for a more seamless look if you micro examined it :)

can you explain why it is important to have even number foundation chain? i am a beginner and sometimes when I start with a certain number of chain, it ends up with one less or more. don't know how but i mess up and i am worried that it might happen while I am not aware of. thanks

It is called a turning chain. If you didn't you would find your work going lopsided.

Don't count the knot at the beginning when counting.
You may be skipping stitches as you go. I like to count every few rows to make sure I have the correct number of stitches.

So you don't show people how to attach the button to finish the skirt off. Not very helpful at all
