The Living End: single handedly responsible for making the double bass look like the coolest instrument ever.
It always was cool but no one thought about it before lol 😂
Single handedly isn't the best adverb, but they do make it look cool.
Actually, Scott Owen said he was inspired by Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats...no wonder they sound so similar. Also check out Zebra by the John Butler Trio.... You might like the double bass in that too.
They may have not have used a double bass but the likes of Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent were the beginning of this style of music
Y’all need to be checking out the reverend horton heat
One of the most under rated bands. Been listening to 'em since high school 17 years ago and this song is still fresh. My cousins favorite band. AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! OI OI OI !
Didn’t get the recognition they deserved
1000000000000% true. I listened to them when I was in high school which was late 1990s. Its rare when you come back to a band you listened to when you were a kid and still are like, holy shit, this is still amazing.
This is a band I will see live before I die or I will regret it.
Actually though
OI OI OI
OI OI OI
One of the best bands to come out of Melbourne
Correction.. World!!
They're not even the best Psycobilly band to come out of Melbourne
👍 and I had forgotten about them for years. DOH!!! 🐦 🕊 ✈
The best band to come out of Melbourne
@@lunch2102 who do you suggest listening to?
One of my favourite songs when I was in Year 8 in 1998. Great times.
Always amazed me how he could play such crazy ass guitar and sing at same time
genius
Take me back to the 90s please
These guys have always amazed me. If popularity were based solely on how talented musicians are on their instruments, they would have become the biggest rock band ever(well in the US at least. I believe I've heard that they ARE the most popular rock band in Australia). Was cool seeing them live in Baltimore a few months ago in front of a crowd of about 100-200 people (I believe I've heard that they sell out stadiums in Australia). Hope it's not another 10 years before they come back to the States!
Yea they're very popular in Australia. One of our many amazing bands.
Great band, but not the most popular. Midnight Oil is more popular with multiple generations. Probably others as well....
@@lone982 AC/DC
@@lone982probably cold chisel with the older folks
Chris is an awsome bloke! I done his security cameras and alarm system so I deal with him in person, saw his studio, Such a good bloke
Huh, that's a weird thing to find in a comment section
I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was 8...didn't really know what it was about, just liked the chorus. I now realise this song was about preserving historic architecture in Melbourne lmao this is a cool clip to see Melbourne 20+ years ago
Wow! How the great city of Melbourne has changed, since this video.
18 years . U would think so
+Ben Chesterman lol
The cheese sticks still there
a lot of that is brisbane
and Sydney shit all over lower east
Nothing looks the same in our suburbs like when we were all kids growing up .. anyone can relate to this song because it's real and it happens all the time.. even more now I'm the 2023s chris is a really good song writer he just writes what he sees and feels with no BS
The most Melbourne song ever! I moved interstate a few years ago and give this a listen every time I feel homesick. Love your work guys. :)
This song is more relevant than ever today.
One of the best bands I've seen live.
Chris Cheney is absolutely brilliant. Saw him recently in the Beatles "White Album"concert currently touring Australia and he was epic!! such an amazingly talented dude.
That's interesting; it's been quite a while since I followed every move members of TLE did, but I figured I would've heard about this...what was he doing in the tour? Playing lead guitar?? An interesting role for him if so, just bc other than "While My Guitar" (which is Clapton), there's very little 'guitar solo' type playing on the album.
The days of video hits & this genre of music, great times 🤘😜
This song still rings true, from the Palace to the Windsor Hotel, so much history going in Melbourne
Absolutely. A damned shame losing those locations
So it should, should be still on at the pub when me nephews are old enough to have a beer haha and many years beyond...if this covid bullshit would fuck off
Surprised the Palace wasn’t shown in the clip
Can't leave out the Gatwick if we speak of St kilda.
All torn down is the best song of the living ends.
I just love listening to the living end
One of my fav song in high school 🔥
Saw these guys live around 10 years ago.
Crazy underated!!!!
This takes me back to the Melbourne, Australia i remember growing up into, in my teenage days playing bass in the Melbourne punk/rock scene.
This takes me right back to that time, like it were yesterday.
They were very right on the money with this song, 10 years ahead of its time, as look what Melbourne has become! So sad.
one of their best songs
As an American (I'm from.NY) who got deeply obsessed with this group around 2001--"Roll On" remains one of my favorite records of all time--getting into the band, their style, Chris' brilliant guitar playing, everything..ended up by proxy getting me fascinated with Australia: the music scene, the apparent national attitude, and eventually the country itself. I still haven't been, but I will...I fucking will.
Btw, while this version is of course a classic, I consider the "Live at the Wireless 2000" take the definitive cut. The jamming, and especially Trav"s drumming, is tight as hell
Australia is amazing mate and hopefully you can make it here one day
@@KC-yi1td It's definitely on my 'list', so to speak, going there, and im not gonna let it get away from me without making it happen. I'd try to do it ASAP, only it seems like lately you guys have been getting slammed with a bunch of post-COVID chaos--the armies of mice marching through, devouring everything in sight, etc...such a bloody shame. But once the rhythm settles.dowm.a bit, I'll start giving it a serious look again. Side note: that's another thing I love about Australia, and you Aussies as well: You're totally aware of how awesome, and unique, your country is, and you say so. Of course everywhere has issues, but it always seems like there's a self--awareness and appreciation for what it means to be part of Oz. Whereas, while it'd not like I would try dissuade people from coming to the US of A, I'm far more depressed about the state of it than I am proud, lol.
@@mywhychromosome bit of BS going on all over the world at the moment. Been pretty good where I am here in west oz. don’t worry mate I still want to come to USA. A Texas bbq is high on my priority list
@@KC-yi1td Ahh man, yeah, the food is one of the main appeals of Texas. I actually lived in Austin for a while, which is a great, very weird (in a good way) little city--lots of musicians, artists, general loveable oddballs, and the South by Southwest festival every year basically takes over part of the city with live music and etc for a month each year. But it's also a very big state, and their are a lot of parts of it, that--at least for me--were very hardliner conservative, judgemental, slightly kookily-Christian, and so on. Like they got stuck in a time capsule, but not in a good sense, lol. But still a state worth checking out
Love the double bass! This theme reminds me of Spy vs Spy back in the 80s
2020 needs more of this!
You guys got me through some rough times, thank you!
Muchas Gracias Amigos I Saw These guys In Sydney When they were performing with the Rolling Stones Great Concert
I love this band
Always an amazing song! glad to hear it again!
This is mental guitar work. The rest of the music is crazy too. You don't see this much these days.
Great song reminds me of Don’t Tear it Down from Spy V Spy another great Aussie band
Love it
Still awesome 🤟
My favorite song🔥
Hope they come to West Australia again 😉👍🤘
fukn great track, great band, great memories. oi! wellington nz
RIP to the beloved Safron Cottage in Tecoma that's went under demolition on the 7th August 2013 to make way for the Maccas in Tecoma...
this was popular when i was a kid. i never paid attention to the lyrics then, but finally i see what they were singing about.
Beautiful anthem, incredible lead break Chris - one of my favourite early TLE songs ( along with Save the Day) Come back to Brisbane soon guys!!
The live version (I pick live at the wireless) is the best take...great, almost The Edge-style delay-soaked guitar playing
Keep coming back to this for the nostalgia.
Wow! How the great city of Melbourne has changed, since this video.
Seen these guys standing in a tree in early 90's
how has this only had 120,00 views?
okay, wtf is it with all the "in a tree" comments?? Do u have multiple accounts? Lol
still stands.i just cant believe what people are listening to and watching these days.gangnam style....please.this will be here for years to come.well done boys hold your heads high.
will rock live again????
BEST breakdown ever❤
I think they could really give Green Day a serious run for their money. One of the big name well known American bands with a similar style of music right ? The Living End just with this song alone could give that band a kick in the pants. I seriously believe that is so.
This song needs waaay more likes😃
them Ozzy s rock badass!
Revisiting this song in the midst of reading news of the imminent demolition of the Palace Theatre in Melbourne (pretty apt) - love this song! It was like the 2nd or 3rd song I ever taught myself on the guitar.
Melbourne was a great city in the 90’s
Chris Cheney ... freekin brilliant!!!
Unbelievable Good !!!
I’ve always loved yas but Man watched yas live few years back with cold chisel. That double bass mate. I’ll tell ya
The best song by the church.
You mean the living end?
how has this only had 120,00 views?
I can't even...
Unfathomable...
how has this only had 235,000 views?
Warren Milward because the most amazing things in life often go unnoticed
cos they were from before the youtube times essentially, I think
21 years later still very relevant evenmore so now apartments everywhere

Great Melbourne punk-Rock band
ozzyman has always had an outstanding taste in music.
Yeah mate, the backdrops are mostly Melbourne landmarks.. Luna Park, the Shot tower at Melbourne Central. Ironically, both are still standing.
Love This Song...
Better than K-POP or Punk Poop!
Definitely better than Kpop for sure.
You never experienced The Eddys. Dan Rondau on dub bass. Maestro.
Legends
all good
These guys sooo deserve more subs!
a great response to V Spy V Spy's "Don't tear it down" 20 years earlier
Wow! How the great city of Melbourne has changed, since this video.

Better than K-POP or Punk Poop!
Like my primary school Inala West all torn down and the Tall Pine Trees we planted at the School in the 60s all gone.
I have to agree, and i live in Wollongong.

How is there a recurring thing about TLE in a tree?? Lol. What is that?
YES
This could be written about the Gold Coast, Sydney and no doubt all larger cities throughout Australia.
Wow, the views on these TLE classics just goes to show how many people are unaware of the brilliance that is. Did these guys make much waves in the US?
Great rasguido!!
My favorite album up there with Origin of Symmetry - Muse and Kid A - Radiohead. What a rocker
Lyrics (mostly for myself cause im performing this xx)
I see the city and it isn't what it used to be
A million houses goin' up and down in front of me
No time to let the concrete set before it's broken up again
Don't care if it's historic, don't really care at all
A hidden landscape on the brink of any development
A protest rally never satisfied with development
Both strivin' for a perfect world, each havin' their own opinions
And so the city grows, It grows on and on
All torn down
All torn down
All torn
I see the city and it's grown into a big machine
The streets are freeways and the parks are just a memory
No time to let the concrete set before it's broken up again
Don't care if it's historic, don't really care at all
All torn down
All torn down
All torn
Now
I see the city and it isn't what it used to be
A million houses goin' up and down in front of me
No time to let the concrete set before it's broken up again
Don't care if it's historic, don't really care at all
All torn down
All torn down
All torn
Now
You got no reason
(You got no reason)
(You got no reason)
You got no reason
You got no reason
(You got no reason)
(You got no reason)
(You got no reason)
(You got no reason)
They should have put the Saleyard footage of the Skaters and SmC across the road.
Awesome film clip that's melbourne threw n threw they should of done more of Croydon where they came from
They're Wheelers Hill boys not from Croydon.
Nah croydon buddy
MrMayas101 I don't know where you got Croydon from Dude ? I grew up in Wheelers Hill, they went to Wheelers Hill High School and I watched them play in Battle of the Bands at Wheelers Hill High School when they were called The Runaway Boys!
+Dethroned74 my mistake wheelers hill is correct an come to think of it I don't know where I got Croydon from either one thing we both agree on is they are awesome
How am I just now discovering this band???
Such a great fucking band. Check out the album "Roll On" from 2000...was their last album where Chris was really pushing the limits of his guitar playing, and the band's sound in general, but still remaining a 'punk' sound overall
this track is easily in my top 5 favorite TLE songs of all time. ashamed to admit this is my very first time seeing this video. i apologize to everybody HAHA
how the fuck doesnt this have more views?????
That giant cheese stick is still one of Melbourne's most unsightly things to this day
Cool work Man,God Songs =)
This was released on the last day of river view high community camp XI
