I rode an Alva board back in the day......in England! 10" wide which was WIDE back in 77/78? Mid Tracks and YO-YO wheels as hard as rock......Tony in the dessert in a storm drainage pipe riding past 90 degrees from the floor was my inspiration.....He's da best 4 sure. I'm 48 now and still ride. Had a huge wipe out 2 days ago.....still feeling it where back then we'd have been straight back at it?
Sid was based on a real person but was not the same as in the lords of dogtown. He was a boy that lived in the rich part of LA that had a pool. And he loved watching them skate and that, so he invited them all up to his pool when he was ill. He died of brain cancer
i like how all the other guys talk about each other behind their backs and say, "oh dude jay was the best hes was way beyond us"..." tonys time and balance were just so superior" good friends right there
Tony and his family sill here in an diego , sorry to hear about one of your other doc vids got cut off sound due to a song confict. Great music in this movie , I watched all thos guys take over some of some pools remember everything like it was yesterday
The Z-Boys remind me of Pink Floyd. For Pink Floyd, the inspirational creative genius was Syd Barrett. He was the guy that got them to write their own songs, and to break the boundaries and be comfortable with being different. David Gilmour was the one with a lot of talent and a strong work ethic that made Pink Floyd "Pink Floyd". In the same way, I think, Jay Adams is the "Syd Barrett" of the Z-Boys, where Tony Alva plays the role of David Gilmour.
I WANT TO SPEND TIME GETTING TO KNOW YOU TONY BUT I WAS ALWAYS AT THE BILLIONAIRES BOYS CLUB BEACH WHAT'S THE WEALTH OF THE BABE STONING IN THE SUNSHINE THE LENGTH OF DAYS WITH THE TUBING IN THE PRESENCE OF HUMAN JUST GOT FUN HOLE IN THE PRESENCE OF COMMUNION WITH OUR GOD
Imagine being around for something that was so early in its existence. That you could do so little and be considered a pioneer. Trying making a name in skating today. It's almost impossible with what guys like rodney and daewon have done. Those are the most important names in skating.
1:26 - 1:33 was the best way to describe him... people who call him a douchebag/tool, I get what u mean, but he changed as he matured... & even if he didnt change, dont judge people as it's wrong when people judge you as well...
Although skating and surfing are so extreme today, take me back to this era. I love watching Jay Adams and Tony Alva skate pools, As for surfing, I would rather watch Tom Curren or Shaun Tomson carving J Bay.
The irony is the that dogtown fell because people soon found out that surf style didn't work for progressive moves. It wasn't until people went back to the more upright style that the moves left the z boys in the dust forever. Lots of hype surrounding the z boys. They got beat time after time in the pool contests.
kinda sucks how tony alva doesn't have a name like tony hawk. alva has done more for skating then any other skater in the world, but his name rarely gets mentioned.
I got my first Makaha in 1976 I was East coast ......... Pools , yeah. Skateboard Mag, yeah ... rubble embedded in my palms, elbows and knees? --yeah Tony Jay and Stacey ... they were the shit man, fucking rockstars competing with the fucking Clash and didn't even know it.... it was our time ---them there, me here. coolasfuckinshit Man!
@AICfreak911 Well first off I think the movie was just OK, I say this because if you compare it to the Sony Pictures documentary it pales in comparison and the guy who did play Tony Alva did a good job and some pics of tony and shia look so alike, cud just be me tho
It's amazing to think this documentary is nearly as long ago from now as the z boys were from 2001...

Last year at the St. Cloud Minnesota skate plaza I got the pleasure of meeting Tony he was a very pleasant guy to be around and he still rips
We’re lucky to have all that footage to see how it all started.

It was fun to be a teenager back then in SoCal. We all looked to Tony Alva to see how to have an attitude long before punk came along.
I met this man today, he was touring with the vans bus and they made a stop to the naval base here in pensacola fl. rad dude.

@Cotahere I don't know the sort of xylophone one at the start but the more upbeat one is Hots On For Nowhere by Led Zeppelin
Imagine being around for something that was so early in its existence. That you could do so little and be considered a pioneer. Trying making a name in skating today. It's almost impossible with what guys like rodney and daewon have done. Those are the most important names in skating.

@AICfreak911 Well first off I think the movie was just OK, I say this because if you compare it to the Sony Pictures documentary it pales in comparison and the guy who did play Tony Alva did a good job and some pics of tony and shia look so alike, cud just be me tho
