Super cool! I consider that arborvitae cultivar to be one of my favorite evergreens. And they look far more elegant than the eastern red cedar - especially during the winter.
Hi! Thanks for checking in! I did not plant them, but I believe they were planted in 2018 in likely 15 gallon containers (about 5 feet tall) and now they are about 15 feet tall. They grew about two feet per year, which is very common for these, but they can sometimes see three feet growth per year. FAST!
Question for you. Tonight will be 26 with some precipitation and tomorrow night will be 21 but clear. Do I need to take protective measures on my Needle?
@@justhereforthefoliage The plastic tote if it doesn't touch the fronds. Plastic sitting on fronds will transmit the cold to them. If you still had the frost cloth you could wrap around palm under tote to make the fronds not touch. I just quick wrapped my mule because of the cold
He's not wrong. Problem is, do you want to wait a decade before your privacy screen is actually a privacy screen? I do not want to wait that long, personally. Plus, I live in the woods and the growing conditions are not great, therefore mine will not act as one in optimal areas.
@@justhereforthefoliage Also when they are closer together they do not get as big due to competition. Maybe no be quite as healthy long term, but it can work.

Yup, you got it. Agreed. An awesome looking and tame plant that suits many needs and grows fast!
Lots of them here, very cool!
Can’t beat their versatility!
@@justhereforthefoliage Yep!
Neighbor went with the blue tarp privacy screen!
Ouch, yikes!
How old are the trees in the video? i.e. when did you plant them, and how tall were they at planting?

Much better than Leyland cypress!
Yes! This tree is so tough, it really takes a disaster to kill them.

@@justhereforthefoliage While it would probably be fine. If you have the time it might not hurt just to dry cover.
@@tntropics Do you think frost cloth would be okay or the hard plastic tote?

6 feet is too close. 12-15 feet for optimal growth.
I’ve never heard of that far apart, even conservative distances are about 8 feet. Thanks!

This is true. Good point. I am willing to take the risk though!
