    I mean, I just love this channel and as a teacher Jack is right at the top of the pile. Any fool can put up some lessons on UA-cam but to teach, motivate, inspire and explain concepts in a way that really works is a whole different story. Apart from anything else, isn't that just one of the most beautiful, killer guitar tones you've ever heard?!?

    I was a little uncomfortable with such a sharp key (B) for examples, it leads to making a decision on what to call the notes (enharmonics; #9 being a "C double-sharp", e.g.) since the point is to understand the chord to scale degree relationships. But as you went along I thought the way you named the notes was the best way in context, and using a guitar key like B is better than C or F, for example.

    another cool and sometimes easier way to get this idea is to think of the altered scale as being the same as playing the minor melodic scale from the b2nd (minor melodic C in the case of going from B to E)

  • @clarkesinspace
    @clarkesinspace 2 роки тому +2

    Love this video and how you teach!Super important to perceive the altered scale in terms of the dominant chord that you’re on. My two “quick cheats” for the altered scale are thinking whole tone scale between the third up to the root Or the more commonly taught one(also more complete) melodic minor starting a half step above the root. That being said I totally believe understanding it relative to the chord you’re on is what gives meaning to it. Thanks for a great and clear lesson

    What a great lesson. I've struggled with how to use the altered scale for so long...especially when it comes to timing, note choice, and being able to hear and identify the "altered" sound. This lesson broke things down into just the right amount of information to get anyone headed in the right direction. Would love to see this concept expanded into a TrueFire series. The first series was extremely helpful. Thanks for taking the time to create these little gems.

    you're playing a melodic minor scale 1 semitone above the root of your chord .
    so B7 chord is C melodic minor ( but from B) and F# is G melodic minor ..
    thats way easier for me to understand and hear as its a common scale ... like .the 7th mode of that scale ,( but i wouldnt think of it like that )

    When you quickly glossed over the chords of the altered scale I think you gave the wrong chord name on at least one. I love your lessons but please at least tell people where you are putting your fingers or the correct name of the cords because it’s not always easy to tell where somebody’s putting their fingers since they’re muting some of them and pressing some of them down, and then it takes so much time to figure out what chords you’re actually doing. Or I’m just half asleep or something.😂 it’s always nice if you’re not gonna have some sort of diagram on the screen to make sure you clearly explain what cord you’re doing. I’m talking about when you were speaking about the underlying cords of the altered scale. I had to fats around, trying to figure out what chords you were playing for about 20 minutes. If you at least gave the formula of the cord really quickly, that would help. And I know how to construct chords, but when you said the name I did it and it wasn’t the same cord you were using. If it’s an inversion, that’s going to Stamp a lot of people unless they’re already very familiar with those cords. Otherwise great lesson.😊
