Skill levels seem like a horrible idea for a sandbox game about being able to play it however you want. Quests seem like an ok idea, but i do like those mobs. As for the loot chests randomly spawning, maube make a small underground house generate which has loot chests like those, but otherwise i dont like that idea. Enchanting is perfectly fine the way it is, especially since maxing out your gear wasnt really how the devs intended you to play. I think the enchanting system would be a cool way to add ON to the enchanting system, but shouldnt replace it. those new enchantments are pretty cool.

Love the idea, especially the new Enchants, watched the video with the Giant Boss and it looks awesome! Keep up the good work!

Making it so you can't use a stone pickaxe because you don't have a high enough level is not good game design no matter how much you twist it
it should be like you mine it slowly but the higher level you have the faster you can mine it

I think level blocking you from performing an action is bad design. Experience levels should make you better at such thing and also performing such thing shoul slowly increase your skill aswell. On top of that even the summonning thing should be able to every player because, let him die. Just notify the player that this low level is not advised to fight yet. But u can try

The first criticism is not really true, It doesn't block the player from mining such, just limits the amount of things you can mine. Though if you are talking abt fishing and farming, I do kinda agree. And your second suggestion is already planned. The level limit was there to stop low level players from using up all of the high level shrines, but it isn't relevant as I'm working on a system that lets them respawn.

this seems cool but i still feel like i'd end up getting bored with minecraft survival regardless (probably just because i prefer terraria for survival and minecraft for being in creative to build stupid shit)
i do appreciate that you didn't just make this just "minecraft but terraria progression" though

Does a sandbox game really need progression?

    • @rowanstree8499

some progression is good but making it the focus of a sandbox game is silly

Needing a "skill level" to be able to use a tool or weapon at all is kinda stupid af imo and sounds like a cheap tedious and unatural mechanic.
Like, it just doesn't make sense. Why would you need skill to learn to use a freaking stone sword? It would make more sense is if you could use the stone sword always no matter your level, but if your skill level is too low, you simply don't take full advantage of it, so it makes less damage and the cooldown is longer, for example.
Being completly unable to use the stone sword as if it was some kind of super complex weapon is just stupid imo, it's just a sword made of stone lmao
Same with everything else, a bow for example. Instead of not being able to shoot a bow if you don't have enough skill level it would be much better if you could always shoot the bow BUT the lower your skill level, the more time it takes to load an arrow, the worse the precission and the more durability you consume with each use.
Yeah, I know this is way harder to implement, but it makes way more sense and is less annoying.
The mining chests idea is cool, but personally I don't like the fact you find random chests, it feels way too "plugin" and artificial. Instead, I think it would be much better and original if instead of stumbling uppon chests, you found something like a "geode" block, that takes very long to break and once you break it drops a bunch of random ores depending on it's rarity (since geodes are just rocks with minerals inside, this makes sense)
Cuz like, why would there be a freaking chest inside stone? There's a reason buried shipwrecks chests don't generate under stone and they generate under sand, gravel or dirt. The block I would use for it would probably be the same block MC uses for the outer layer of the big amethysts geodes, "smooth basalt". Though you could use different blocks for the different tiers, or they could all use the same texture and it could be a surprise whether you get shit or good loot.

      @budged  29 днів тому

All of this was planned but wasn't possible.
Firstly, the geode idea is similar to my initial plan, but custom blocks aren't possible in datapacks.
Second, the making tools sluggish was the initial plan but this is a Datapack, not a mod. And that simply wasn't possible back when making it.
Though.. The new 1.20.5 update changes make it possible.
If i return to this datapack i will update it, though i am currently too burnt out on this project to work on it.
