Man this video hits so hard right now. I started learning how to code last September and then did a bootcamp in Feb and just landed a $115k fully remote salary. 80% of the people I spoke too told me that this was too risky or wouldn’t work and all I saw on Reddit and Social media was doom and gloom.
I knew the entire time that it I just ignore the noise and focus on becoming a great software engineer that I would make it happen.
Congrats and pushing through all the noise and on the new job 😎🎉
congrats dude. what bootcamp you did? was it online?
wow, always great to hear the success stories!
anny tips ? :D would be nice
@@LaserTraceWork your way through the Odin Project and take the JavaScript path. Ignore the Ruby on Rails path. The Odin Project will take about 7 months to go through, but you'll get your basics down and be more than able to go through some cool Udemy courses.
I'm excited to share that I've recently reignited my interest for coding. I graduated with an IT degree in 2015, but I have never had the opportunity to work in an IT-related job because I have always struggled in interviews. I've been coding again since June, and I'm making some progress. I am determined to succeed this time, and I will come back to this comment when I have achieved my goal. Wish me luck! In the meantime, I wish you all the best in your own endeavors.
whats the road map you taking to get there?
microsoft again microsoft.
Good luck guy... May graces follow you.
Good luck and be chill about the interviews.
What I did was prepare answers for possible questions. Do a few interviews showcasing your projects and you are bound to succeed.
Good luck!😊
"Work so hard that your worries and problems just become inconveniences" 😂 I love that Chris! And I agree, all these emerging technologies are just there to make our lives and jobs easier ,not to replace us, until a client can properly describe what they want, AI will never replace devs
Boy I REMEMBER finding your video some 5 years ago now. I remember watching your very first video. I did self taught for YEARS. The desire, the insecurity, the quitting. Something clicked a year ago and I went to work. I LOVE programming. I wake up every day excited about what I'm going to build next. I started a full stack bootcamp (the best one I could find) for the mentorship and community. And honestly its been a miracle to code/learn for 12 hours a day.
The salary never motivated me. The coffee, the cozy lifestyle, nothing did it. Only the passion did it.
I know the market BLOWS, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm scared as hell about it. No amount of passion will ever feed my family. But I also know I love this way too much to ever give up.
I also know that once I do land that first job, I'm going to be on my knees thanking you for all you've done over the years to keep me going just one more day until it clicked.
I am studying web development, and I have thought about quitting several times over the course of this year alone. It isn't that learning to code is hard (it is, but in my opinion there are harder skills out there to learn.) it is more that I am afraid that by the time I am job ready, demand will be reduced by automation and that I will struggle to find a job. I am afraid that all this time and effort I am putting in will ultimately amount to nothing.
web development is going nowhere. just look at the market there are still a ton of work for us. it’s just extremely saturated due to the layoffs
Don't give up - try to see the bigger picture... you will always have a job as a developer... 😉
The demand for developers is only going to increase
You don't have to stick with web development. I think people tend to forget that web development opens doors for so many possibilities and routes to go. And I disagree with you about learning code, there isn't really that many things that are more complicated than programming.
@@TheJurciks do you have to or suggest a beginner start with web development? I'm interest in learning to code but not interest in front end web development. Can I start learning to code in another area? All I ever hear is you must start with Web development. Is this true in your experience?
I'm a starting out AWS Cloud Engineer, I'm learning python and it's not easy coming from a non tech background. Thank you so much for this video man. I look forward to coming back to this comment 1-2-3 years from now and tell you that I never gave up!
See you then man! Going back for my bachelors in software dev and excited to get back to the grind!
How is it going now man ? I hope well! I am thinking about a coding boot camp but looking at other options as well, what path did you take and did it end up working out well for you ?
@@nomadadventures5736Hey man, I enrolled for software engineering program. So far I’m really enjoying it, I had a couple of offers for my desired role(Cloud Engineer) but I turned them down because I want to finish this program first(I finish next year December). Thanks for posting this! I was just debating if I should go into learning to code because healthcare doesn’t pay enough for me. I swear having financial security is the truest flex!
Thank you . Definitely needed to hear this . Started back learning to code again , and hearing this was a wake up call for me. Y’all keep going . Don’t give up ! ❤
Awesome, all the best for your journey! 😉
Was struggling with learning react and was having self doubts. Definitely needed to hear this today! Thanks Chris!
Just came across your channel, I am young student about to commence my Computer science degree as a freshman, and I was initially heading into Psychology and then wanted to specialize in Sports Psychology. However I realized that wasn't really my thing and I began to research and try new things and nothing interested me more than coding and I've begun in FreeCodeCamp to have at least a background on the basics and I do see how I may end up thinking of not continuing , but to anyone reading this. The good things in life take time to flourish and trust me in this field things will improve and change overtime, but you have to be confident in yourself and your skills, you cant let the opinions of others dictate your future. You must make your own future, ill come back to this in one year and see how it's gone. Thank you Chris for the message :)
Hey Sean... I stumbled on your video last November and it pushed me to want to learn how to code. I've come a long way. I really do thank God for you. There were times when I didn't even feel like touching my laptop, but the encouragement from your videos kept me going. In 8 months, I've gained so much knowledge and I am currently interning at a startup in Norway. It gets hard sometimes but you constantly remind me that there are big things ahead if I keep pushing. Thank you!
I am so proud of you. You are a huge inspiration. Thank you so much for all the encouragement you give and sharing your life, struggles, successes, and experiences. I love hearing it all. Thank you.
Thank you Chris! This video is giving me the boost I need to finally learn how to code well enough to transition fully into Tech!
Bravo🎉
Consistency matters a lot hun

I needed this i was going to quit I signed up to be the substitute teacher as well but after listening to you I'm gonna push through wish me luck. Thanks, S

Thank you so much man. I am a System Admin, learning how to code now. There were moments when I wanted to give up, but this video motivated me to keep going. Thank you once again!
Thanks for the motivation Chris it means alot, bruh u are an inspiration to pple like me trying to break into tech
I started to learn HTML and CSS in March, but I dropped since then.. now I feel bad, and with this video, I am getting to urge to pick it up 🙏
I completed html and css advanced and stopped in march too ...i knew to make a whole page with html and css and now im 10 steps back a forgot a bit ...

was in the same boat as well but i picked up in may and am now powering through javascript and I didnt even use expensive courses I just did freecodecamp and 100devs all totally free and am putting in the time and right now with the progress i feel like its all going to be worth it
This is honestly the motivation I needed to hear right now. Thank you 🙏
Thanks Chris. I've been one of those wondering if learning web development is even worth it. It's great to hear such positivity from someone in the field.
THANKS FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT! I'm currently pushing through learning html and css while having a full time job right now. I got no excuse for myself now!

I just want to thank you for your words of wisdom. I am 1 class away from entering the bachelors degree for computer programming. There’s been plenty of times where I’ve been second guessing my degree but your videos persuade me to keep going. So thank you for all that you do and staying positive!
I'm two years out from finishing my bootcamp. Keep pushing, it pays off.
Tysm for this video, i really needed it. I've been learning to code on my own for a bit, and ill be studying software development soon, and its really discouraging hearing all this bad stuff about programmers when you're starting something new. I feel so much better now thx
I just found your channel and this is God sent. I’m just learning about and considering getting into this field and everything you’re saying in this video and the one about how you got started, speaks to my doubts and hesitations. I appreciate such candid input and advice!
You got this! It will be hard as hell but very worth it :).
videos like this always makes you want to keep persevering cause I'm at a point in my coding journey that I'm already feeling maybe this isn't for me
You encourage me to keep learning every single time! Thanks!

Is really good listening to this , funny thing is that I'm switching from Sales to UI/UX design but I'm re-learning to code on the side cuz I think it will benefit me as well on personal projects and to better create stuff as a team.
Thank you for that information Chris, I am really afraid on what will be the future holds for developers, but this content has restored my confidence in continuing learning to code, specifically in front-end development.
This is an awesome video Chris. There's so much confusion out there and you've clarified a lot .Thanks man. Wishing you more success.
Thanks for this video, I'm planning on studying a mixed Web Dev program in college next year, so this is very encouraging for me to hear right now.
"If you keep going two, three years down the line, your life changes literally forever."

Hello Chris! I'm about to start the Flatiron full-stack bootcamp in August. Wish me luck!
Thanks bro. If i heard this from someone else on here, i probably would of questioned its genuineness, but coming from you, this was inspiring.
I feel this SO much. Hits all the feels about my life. I have been a Respiratory Care Practitioner for the past 5yrs and unless I am working at 3 different hospitals, I barely hit $60k in WA. Found out about frontend developer and learning to code online and got super attracted. I am only 3weeks into it but definitely getting it down. Hope to see my life change within the next 6mo to a year. Thanks for these words. Needed it!

I encourage everyone to take a look at what jobs are available in your area and choose the tech stack based off that... It's definitely a reason why that person could not get hired... Dev jobs are everywhere... I talked with multiple businesses saying they just can't find developers. It's a science to getting your 1st dev job

Thank you Chris for this word of encouragement really helpful needed this word right now. God bless you.
You're one of my biggest inspirations, Chris. Edward Sa introduced me to the coding world, and you introduced me to the life-changing benefits. The thing that discourages me the most is the fact that I live in a third world country with terrible pay and low demand for developers.
But I figured time is gonna pass anyway. As long as I believe that AI won't replace me, I will try to keep moving forward and move from a barely HTML/CSS literate guy to a fully-fledged Front-End Developer (with the eventual goal to become Full-stack). Maybe I will be able to get a remote job from a different country, I very much hope so.Thanks you for your words.
If I ever become a developer, I'll credit you two for it.
Thank you for the motivation brother ❤
Thank you for inspiring me to keep moving forward towards becoming a developer! Your motivation and inspiration have been invaluable to me.
I gave up last January. I'll take it up again. I love that idea of worries just becoming inconveniences. Thanks. ❤️
Thank you for this video man. I was also giving up a while ago but got back in to learning last month. Super encouraging video 🎉
Awesome, all the best for your journey! 😉
Thank you very much for your encouragement!
Thanks for the encouragement, I'm going to keep pushing 💪❤
Needed this pep-talk, I appreciate you Chris.
This has been so inspiring, thank you so much! I'm just starting out. I was on route to become a teacher but decided I could't deal with it anymore after being a substitute teacher for 6 and a half years (especially after 2020, things became unbearable). Nothing else has worked out for me but I have decided to give tech a try. So far I really like it and I am praying it all works out. I've read some doom and gloom stories and people speculating that front-end developers are done but I refuse to believe that. I'm planning on having back-up plans for other areas of tech but I'm going to give this my best shot for now! This video is even more motivating. Thanks again!
I really needed to hear this. Thank you for your content. It's funny you said if things didn't work out, you'd go into nursing because I'm a nurse right now. After covid hit, healthcare isn't the same and I'm very unhappy.
I really like the idea of working remotely and getting into coding. My hospital actually partnered with Guild, who organizes with schools to help people earn certificates or degrees and software development is fully covered. I'll be working full time night shifts so I want a structured way to learn and pace myself. Hopefully end of next year, I'll be able to fully transition into tech. I'll be following you for guidance! Time to learn different codes than code blues.
I've been learning coding on and off. I was demotivated with chatGPT. Thank you for the encouragement Chris
Needed this, I chose to change careers last june and have been job hunting for about 6 months with no luck at all, but it is really something i want to achieve. I'm going back to warehouse work temporarily but I don't want to give up
Don't give up!
you are not that old to give up :)
Your videos are so inspirational for me.
I have been learning to code for almost a year now. I have been on 3 interviews already I will get a job eventually. Each time I interview I make it to the tech interview but I bomb it lol. Each interview allows me to know what to look up for the next interview.
As of late you have been looking really healthy in your videos. You have inspired me to work out and get inshape also. You are an inspiration more than you realize. Hope you and yours have a great 4th of july.
Pls can you give me a template of your resume, I don't know, but I have not been invited for any interview, despite learning to code for about 8 months, it seems the journey is more difficult
I so love your videos! They are so motivating when I begin to second think if I could actually learn to code and land a job successfully.. it’s daunting to think about because I need to find a boot camp because I need structure when learning l
Wow!!!! Powerful inspiration. I’m in a coding bootcamp but the journey is not easy. Yes Programming is difficult but it’s worth it. Thanks for this inspiring video and encouragement.
Motivational video that I need in this moment against my enemy that is also me and my procrastination and the feeling that I'm not worth it to keep pushing on this path that I choose.
I force myself to look at the end goal, where I work remotely (travel and work) and the life it has to offer my family and I (there's more to it but i'll leave it at that). Im a father of three (2 girls, 1 boy) and its difficult to make time but I find time. I started developing interest at the beginning of the year but didnt really start practicing rgiously until just a few months ago (the layoff scared me, too) after talking to some friends in this industry. All i gotta say is that all my eggs are in this basket, and hopefully a year or so from now my family and I can have a better life. I'll updat this comment in one year to see my own growth (you all will hold me accountable). Good luck to everyone and keep the end goal in hindsight. Chris, you're an amazing dude. Keep it up!
I’m with you, I’ve been learning for almost a year now but I kept getting discouraged but my I started back up again cuz I know coding is life changing. I’m here for the update‼️
Hey man... I am right with you. I am a full-time paramedic and make pretty good money with the expense of a ton of OT coming in just under 6 figures. I like coding, I love the challenge. I am a father of 3 and have a house and vehicles to pay for. So making this jump is really going to be a leap of faith. The best push is for more time with my family than over 24hrs to 48hrs away from home at a time. Good luck man!
Thank you for the motivations really needed to hear it.
Fantastic video. I'm on month 8 of learning HTML/CSS/JS. I just had a professional resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn made. I'm super excited to start applying soon.

I had the same problem but once you keep doing it everyday it will be easy if you stop for a few days and it will just get harder The best to do is take only one day off now learning tailwind and vite with react seem really easy now
Thank you for The motivation
In my early 40's, I decided to make a career change and went back to school to study web development. After doing some coursework through a community college and then completing an online coding school, I began my job search. Then came five frustrating months of applying for any entry-level web developer job I came across, but I would either get no response or manage to get an interview but then would usually get ghosted by the employer. Finally, I managed to land a developer job with a school photography company, yet even that didn't turn out well. They only paid $18 an hour, often expected me to do work that was too advanced for me, and then bounced me around from one completely different kind of task to another. They would want me to do React, then create something in WordPress, then do something in PHP -- thus keeping me always rushing to learn things by the seat of my pants and not actually develop serious proficiency in any one area. I felt like my head was spinning at times. Then after I'd been there only about a year and a half, they suddenly kicked me to curb, basically saying that they didn't have much work that matched my skill level. (Instead, they hired some much younger coders who were far more experienced than I was.)
That was over 4 months ago. I've struggled with whether I should even try to do coding anymore. I keep wondering if it's really a young person's game and that now my age will be held against me in the job market (I'm 48 now). Part of me wants to stay with coding but take it in a different direction. Another part of me wants to build on the kind of tasks I did before, such as JavaScript and/or PHP. Any advice for a very discouraged, nontraditional (i.e., older) coder such as me? 😞
keep at it seriously, you cannot give up, go forward torward getting your degree in CS AND doing internships with companie like Microsoft or IBM which helps people like us get into the game (im 50) with programs like leafspring Also learn python, C+++ react and the such. it doesnt matter the age,
also build up your resume with freelance or volunteer work a few will do.
This works out due to the fact i am in leafspring and im currently negotiationg my first offer.
its possible, it took me 1-2 years it can be longer but again its MORE possible than my previous career of early childhood education.
I'm 43 and I know age discrimination is real....but I refuse to give up. I know there's a better life out there for those of us who persevere
