Saksa has been used since the 13th century. Early merchants from Sachsen in north Germany traded with Finns. A lot of people centuries ago around Europe refererred to north Germans as Saxons.
Germany has so many names because it only (relatively) recently united. As such names for different parts of (Modern) Germany are used for the whole country. Names similar to 'Diutisk' (Deutschland, Tyskland, etc.) derive from the Old High German name for tribe of the same name. Names similar to 'Germania' (Germany, Djermani, etc.) derive from Julius Caesar's name for the tribe east of the Rhine river. Name similar to 'Alamanni' (Allemagne, Alemannia, etc.) derive from the name of the Upper Rhine tribe of the same name. Names similar to 'Saxon' (Saksa, Saksamaa, etc.) derive from the name of the North Sea tribe of the same name. Names similar to 'Němĭcĭ' (Niemcy, Německo, etc.) derive from the Proto-Slavic word for a foreigner. Names similar to 'Vokietija' (Vācija, Vuoceja, etc.) probably derive from either the Proto-Indo-European word meaning 'To speak unintelligibly' (wekw) or the Southeastern Swedish tribe (Vagoth). However, the origin of 'Vokietija' and it's friends are a bit more disputed.
