This is exactly what I was looking for! I want to get a flatter sweep and I couldn’t figure out the difference between the #2 and #3 Pfeil sweeps. Very helpful video!

Hello! Thank you for your awesome videos! Would you please explain to me what the differences between sweep U shape and deep U shape are and what I use them for? Thank you!

Thank you! A deep U is create for carving channels into the design. A sweeping U is better for clearing large areas like backgrounds.

Hi, I've watched this video a number of times - but I'm still at a loss as to what actually does what. For example, what is the difference between U and a V, and when would you use one over another? I'm utterly bamboozled. I've tried the cheap box collections but I've never had any luck in sorting what to use (and they were large to carve out fine details (like eyes, or irises, or nostrils) - so all my hard struggles ultimately ended in the bin. Any chance of a video on how to choose tools and what the difference in effects are please? I dont want to carve any larger than A4, so my aspirations are modest! Thanks!!

      Hi Christine,
This blog post should help you: handprinted.co.uk/blogs/blog/using-different-tools-to-make-marks-on-lino?_pos=2&_sid=d4121b77a&_ss=r - there isn't a video but there are lots of photos showing you which tools make which marks

This is helpfull when you have the packigings still, or decide to buy. I dont have packages. I always thought the symbols on the shaft of Pfeil gouges meant something but never could make out what. There are arrows and a number. Do you know what they mean ?

The arrow is the Pfeil logo. The number is the sweep as described in the video. You can work out the size by measuring across the opening. E.g a 12/1 will have a 12 on the shaft and will be 1mm across the opening.
