"After fight, we take together beer." Well, said! Well, said!
Spoken like a true German! ^_^
That's how fighting sports/reenactments shall always end
;3
Would love to try this out if I had the chance.
Same
That’s such an awesome amphitheater I went there with my family a couple years ago and it was an amazing experience to go under and see how stuff worked and how it would’ve looked back then.. Great video
Thanks! And glad you got to visit it too!
One of the best interviews I've seen. Thanks also for showing - based on experience - just how much hard work and training had to, and has to, go in to this.
i love ancient Rome, i need to go here
LabesCaenumYT let’s make a time machine
You need to get captured and enslaved first.
@@tooyoungtobeold8756 You could make friends with Commodus, he was a gladiator fanatic. Then again, you could get shot full of arrows.
You gotta learn how to speak Classical Latin first
I was there with an exchange group from Poland, it was awesome, this guy, the Lanista, made us a fantastic presentation, you could feel the passion in the way, he talks about it. He though us also the technics of fighting with this shield, spear and net, I remember it, as it was yesterday
I'd love to get lessons for this
I'd love to train like a gladiator. Training is intense. This should be an Olympic sport. I could dedicate 2 years
1:17 what was with that spin?
didn't you know turning your back to the enemy is what wins fights !
+mcpartridgeboy i thought backflips and ninja poses were what wins the fight. oh well, you learn something new every day
Let It Gogu no your right and I'm wrong, of course a front flip is the most practical way to get from a to b and those ninja rolls are obviously so much more practical than walking, obviously the more spins you do the more advanced you are !
He spins to get rid of the net
@@dogukanozturk8547 And promptly gets himself stabbed in the neck. RIP
This is the first infomercial I've ever seen that made me want to buy the product.
if i wasnt in the other side of the World i would be there every single day to learn how is to be a gladiator.
There's a lot of optimized modern fightstyles out there, so I think this is not a Self Defence fight style at all.
but it sure is a good Workout disipline, looks fun, and what I consider the most value, in my opinion, is the Historical Knowlege.
Thought I was watching a Marc Felton productions video for a sec 😂
like he said, they more than likely survived. gladiators were investments and weren't thrown away by their trainers. gladiators main goal was to entertain, get cut up a bit, and get stitched up for next time
I have been to their show in Trier during Brot and Spiel festival days
This looks fun, I would love to try it
this was a nice video, but gladiator is actually swordsman is latin, it comes from the word gladius
A DAGGER FIGHTER to be precise. Gladius - dagger, the larger would be known as Pompeian gladius or its original name XIPHOS. The large sword would be know as SPATHA.
What does that have to do with anything?
Nop gladius is a shortsword, not a dagger
Gladius is sword or short sword, Pugio is dagger. Right?
Provocateur actually, Real gladiators didn't fight in coloseum to the death, thats a common mistake. In truth it was a respected sport game like boxing, the only killing is accidental like 1/10 of the Time.
OMG!
This is some awesome stuff!
But that class with no armor is some crazy stuff!
1:16 did he just spin, with a scutum?
speen ATTACK
tbh he was probably trying to get free of the net
It's called a pro gamer move
He got caught in the net so he spinned to get it off
It's due to kickboxing muscle memory, he imagined himself executing a kick. As a a pure boxer that wouldn't happen becauseboxers never give the back to the enemy or you will get rabbit punched.
Nice way of keep fit and must be funny as hell!
I live only a few hours way from Trier and I never knew this was a thing haha
Más videos como estos, un deleite de ver en la tarde y con un buen te, me e canta
I would love to watch this even if they scored it with red paint... so cool
-_- I was here like 1 day ago with school lol
Lol
Thank you for making my point
i really love to be in that training
We need a lot of conditioning we need a lot of strange. Know the feeling I like me some strange as well
Hahhahahhaah!!!
You want strange? Try to piss, shit and run simultaneously.
At first I thought it was a 3d animation his skin and armor looked so clean
Gladius, buckler(Sun ray shaped sword catcher design), gauntlet for shield arm.. Full shield is only for open battle field against archers. Helmet should not impair your vision and need only protect the eyes from slash and I would wear a thick scarf around the neck. Weapon hand tends to be my favorite target until a mistake is made and you can generally use your enemies weapon to guide you to target. They should have combined gauntlet and gladius into one to free up the hands for grappeling and other things.
I recognize the 3rd century Dura Europos (eastern Syria) rectangular scutum.
I have the same since I now reenact a Crisis of the Third Century legionary.
Very good démonstration ! i am french, and i am in the historical reconstitution in the XIVe ! but i like the fighting of Gladiator ! very good work ! Sorry for my english who is bad. :D
your English is probably the worst I've seen on youtube.
I wish we had something like this here...I really do
Hi, what are the dimensions of the shields at 3:45 and what sort of shield are they supposed to represent from history? Viking shields were circular and Upright shields were usually held with a vertical bar grip -- I've never seen a horizontal bar grip so I'm wondering if there were any historical shields that did it that way.
***** Celtic shields and Roman shield were like that, hit it up on google images and get some good celtic shields, they're formed like that with the horizontal grip
Max Loh wich of the longer shield types are held with an vertical bar? The scutum is held by a horizontal bar and kite/drop shields are held by a straping on the back.
Scutums had horizontal grips it allowed you to hold it hanging from your arm so it put less strain on the shoulders and arm.
I would love to participate in this training camp! So it's mostly held in Germany?
Man... it's stuff like this that makes me wish I live in Europe. Hahaha! Thanks!
@@GuroFerd Same!
I ended here after watching Metatron's video about gladiator classes.
Same, I wanted to see the net guy in action 😂
OMG I WAS JUST THERE
We need to use shields as melee weapons more often, right?
undoubtedly fun :)
"We are fighting real"
sees the wooden knife.
rofl
+Lichlord Kazam Yea and his he is a real Gladiator. Not a reenactor. A real gladiator would be in prison right now dont you think
Paul A yeah, but i mean they could rather use some metal blunt knifes and shortswords.
***** What I am sayin is why not just call yourself a reenactor if thats what you actually do. I dont see any problem with being a reenactor.
are you that stupid to think that they would fight for real?
Haha idiot, say that after you get your ribs broken by being stabbed with a "wooden knife".
The only legal metal weapons allowed are only in M1 and Knight Teams Vs* and even then they are made dull and you are not allowed to stab only slash.
The stupid ignorant OP bait Troll is not impressed huh
Damn , i wanna do this , hopefully i will get a chance
From now on a million people will be following you down the road :)))
This is awesome as hell
This have to be something special for all Ancient times fans :)
what is the song in the beggining, it sound gripping
I would really like to try it.. But im kinda far away from germany
i would love to see it back in old glory, sand, blood and beasts
I think the HMB or BoTN are pretty hardcore too, saw bunch of people with head bleed even in helmet.
Gladiator actually meant swordsman/ wielder of a gladius as that was what the original (as in the first) gladiators used and what their name is derived from
That's what he said
I wanna go there
"real"
What a mad man!
Anyone know that this is still a thing today, or is it not anymore?
I believe it still is! At least, these guys are still in Trier!
@@AdventuresofaTravelButterfly ahh I see, thank for letting me know. :)
never been in a sword fight in his life
and then when two gladiators fought each other? What happens with the 90% chance then?
Were do i sign up for this to real gladiator and fight with a real swords
Were some of the students her Belgian/flemish by any chance? Thought i picked up some dutch/flemish
Great job done by this remarkable man. When I think of Gladiators and what they went through and look at the world now I don't see many changes. We clothe men in beautiful outfits, fill them up with mainly falsehoods of bravery as in bravery equated with death which is completely wrong, and they die. The Gladiators were brave men for sure, but their death was pointlessly gruesome and tragic. I wish I could time travel, though, and go back and see how mankind has evolved through the ages. Until that impossibility becomes real I will go with we have learned nothing. The modern world is the worst man has ever been. I wish the 21st century hadn't been a fucking dark age nightmare, but we are stuck with a lot of idiotic people and stupid means you get a lot of power intelligent and sensitive means people hate you. As you can tell we've learned nothing at all.
The net that guy is using is very very light
+Cummajainen /// it has to be throwable and quick to use. What good would a heavy net be if it took a long time?
So if go to your gladiator ring
Then can fight you with real weapons
Not wood swords
Yeah but opponents are only allow to injure each others. No killings allowed ...
Slayer agreeable
What web site do you go to for this
thats pretty cool man
Wow this is cool man
I feel like going there
I’m gonna start my own lanista
I like this
I would absolutely do this everyday for 12 hours
Is something like this in Poland ?
In Gdansk or so ?
SICK VID NOW I WANT TO DO IT!!!!!!!
Everybody gangster till gladiator pops the Glock
yeah, I think the video said that gladiators would fight to the death about 4 times a year.
any of this in usa illinois?
I LIKE THIS !!!!!!
What's the song at 0:01
6 days a week at 10-12 hours? Do these guys not work?
We must bring thia back
WHERE THIS IS?
I M CATALAN,HOW I CAN TO MEET THIS PERSON?
Sometimes it was out of the trainer's hands... the local magistrate or title-bearing person decided the fate of the defeated based on the mood of the crowd
One thing that I hate is when people try to relate or contrast a separate Asian martial art that they train, with a historical European martial art, when they are completely different combat systems and share practically no similarities . Kickboxing = Gladiatorial combat system, WTF mate!
+Chrominance87 really, it's all using the same human shape, all truly useful martial arts are broadly similar. I also think he more meant that it was a combat sport, like gladiatorial combat was.
When you are fighting for your life martial arts don't matter, it's all about surviving.
I want to do this
Looks like your fighting with cast arm and leg.. Lol.. But this is awesome tho.. Those Helmets in days must be very weighty.. And you have any Gladiatrix?
Your fighting real ? So theres a risk of severe injury or death ?
What kind of helmet is that?
My brother stayed in Trier for 5 months
For free?
You gotta love Krauts.
Cool
I can't do these activities. I lose my temper sometimes and I always get dark in my mind.
I mean maybe hes not a real gladiator because they dont kill each other, but thats kind of a good thing like if you lose or make a mistake your not going to die and you can come back and keep having fun. but has others said earlier gladiator reenactor, not real one.
Look at that scar on his eyebrow. Did he get that from gladiator fighting or kickboxing?
I want to join this programme but I live in India
maybe one day we'll have a world wide international gladiator compitition.
nice
Nice sport
I want to train. I am group fitness instructor, strength and conditioning coach for sports combat, MMA coach (amateur), and 20 year martial arts. if I had the money, I'd train with you guys.
And, bring that knowledge back home.
this looks fun ahha
Epix
Sorry to say, but I don't think retiarius was fighting like showed here, and his net probably looked different ( with main rope around net , end kept between fingers to catch and bond oponent like lasso, and probably with small metal weights around net) . and they probably didn't wave net all the time, they kept it for ideal moment . sorry but waving net like that is a little bit useless, could be better to use spear or trident by both hands instead .
He was using the net wrong.
Where can I buy equipment?
Probably Amazon - they seem to have everything.
what class is that?
Salve. I would like to fight once vs Jan
Went here 😱 and saw that guy
I like Gladiator
