    Gladius, buckler(Sun ray shaped sword catcher design), gauntlet for shield arm.. Full shield is only for open battle field against archers. Helmet should not impair your vision and need only protect the eyes from slash and I would wear a thick scarf around the neck. Weapon hand tends to be my favorite target until a mistake is made and you can generally use your enemies weapon to guide you to target. They should have combined gauntlet and gladius into one to free up the hands for grappeling and other things.

    Great job done by this remarkable man. When I think of Gladiators and what they went through and look at the world now I don't see many changes. We clothe men in beautiful outfits, fill them up with mainly falsehoods of bravery as in bravery equated with death which is completely wrong, and they die. The Gladiators were brave men for sure, but their death was pointlessly gruesome and tragic. I wish I could time travel, though, and go back and see how mankind has evolved through the ages. Until that impossibility becomes real I will go with we have learned nothing. The modern world is the worst man has ever been. I wish the 21st century hadn't been a fucking dark age nightmare, but we are stuck with a lot of idiotic people and stupid means you get a lot of power intelligent and sensitive means people hate you. As you can tell we've learned nothing at all.

    Hi, what are the dimensions of the shields at 3:45 and what sort of shield are they supposed to represent from history? Viking shields were circular and Upright shields were usually held with a vertical bar grip -- I've never seen a horizontal bar grip so I'm wondering if there were any historical shields that did it that way.

      +vehrkalia What are you talking about? Sports injuries is a billion dollar business, doctors make FORTUNES treating everything from concussions to broken limbs. Do karate's hurt each other? You bet your ass they do. They're not punching air, they're punching and kicking each other. My brother in law has a black belt in karate, I have seen him with black eyes, he has also gotten his nose broken, and he doesn't even compete, these are injuries he gets while fighting other men.
      Human rights? LOL, this is SPORT, your goal is to defeat your enemy. Just because boxers hug each other after the match doesn't mean they didn't spend time beating each other up.
      "The stone age is gone by so far! :-)"
      Read some books, the Roman gladius is made out of steel. The Romans are history's #1 civilization, Rome is known as the eternal city for a reason. We owe the Romans a lot, and my only problem with this video is that it isn't real. A real gladiator contest might end in injury or death, here there's little chance for either.

    gladiators weren't used in a war as he says they were good at man to man combat however the romans fought in a line of men so they only had to train them to thrust so they could make an army in no-time because training them for man to man combat like he also says takes a 3 years to become effective the roman training could get the same effecencie in months

      +Axeman K9 says the "boxer." You do know boxing isn't fighting for real either, right? It's a tournament sport.

    • @THISISLolesh

      Greg Evershed That's an enormous fail, boxing although not a street fight is still a fight, you realise it's a COMBAT sport right & has techniques transitioned over into armed forces e.c.t.
      Boxing was also designed as a defence MARTIAL ART, for SELF DEFENCE. I guess none of these above mentioned things involve 'fighting'.
      Boxing, where your intent is to hurt your opponent as you engage in hand to hand COMBAT ( Why would they same something a combat sport if it isn't combat? weird right :S ) unlike in this where they are literally playing and acting & then saying it's real, boxing you do not play, you can have your life turned upside, injured badly or killed.
      So please, don't be mad with me because I'm laughing at the bullshit I've just seen.

    • @gee8648
      @gee8648 8 років тому +1

      Oh believe me I'm not mad at you for liking a tournament sport but the fact that you called these gladiatorial games not combat when you yourself are guilty of the same is hilarious. Ah yes I remember the brave warriors who fought with only their arms and padded them back in history and won battle after battle with the same technique... oh wait that never happened. Real combat isn't boxing, boxing is to real combat as WWE is to real wrestling. Ah yes the military did adopt a stance or two to generate power for actual combat techniques but put a boxer up against just about any MMA fighter and he will get his ass handed to him. Put a boxer up against a real warrior in a life and death situation (real combat) and the boxer will be dead in a heartbeat. So yeah I can tell you're butthurt over this but you have to realize that boxing is just a sport where men slap each other with padded hands until the ref tells him to stop. Similar to the video we just saw.

      Greg Evershed In your own comment lies your problem, you're butthurt that I called these dudes fake, I want to make it clear and perhaps cheer you up a little when you learn I'm not talking ancient gladiatorial games, just this man performing a circus for people.
      If boxing is fake then why don't you give it a go? Just another guy from behind the computer who would be taken apart by a novice. So I guess the people who actually fought in boxing rings & died or have brain injuries and can no longer function aren't 'brave warriors' I guess you don't respect them either.
      Also, I love MMA as much as I do boxing if not more so using a old, pointless, overused insult like MMA > boxing without an actual look at the deepness of both sports & why they are different is lost on me.
      Put a boxer up against a real warrior? who or what is a real warrior & under what conditions do they fight?
      MMA is a combat sport & is fighting & you'd agree on that, it's a shame boxing is the exact same just more limited but combat none the less. Much like sword fighting is still combat despite it being super limited also.
      Boxers do not slap, if you're below middleweight your pro gloves weight 8 oz which is only 4 oz heavier than a pro mma gloves, if you also feel the goat skin LEATHER on these 8oz gloves you will realise they are certainly not pillows.
      You're out of your depth here, you haven't a clue about ANY combat sports or combat but are leaving comments like you do, don't be a casual.
      & To say boxing isn't useful in an actual fight is to throw away all credibility, like I said it's taught to armed forces for a reason. Boxing can & will save you in a street fight, especially when most people don't train.
      Also, how could I be butthurt over the opinion of a man who has no experience & presents a 14 year old level petty argument as a retort to me calling what this guy does in the video 'fake'. :-)

    • @gee8648
      @gee8648 8 років тому

      lol you are so butthurt, it's clear by the amount of text and effort you are putting in.
      1. I'm not upset that you criticize them, I could care less. I just found your hypocritical position rather hilarious.
      2. I've been involved with martial arts most of my adult life, boxing isn't a part of that because as I see it, it's useless in a real life combat situation (in comparison to other styles).
      3. ok... to each their own i suppose.
      4. A real warrior as in one who fights for life and death in an actual combat situation like the kind of warriors they TALKED about in the video.
      5. I dont think you actually understand what an actual sword fight looked like... it's not nearly as limiting as boxing is (making boxing useless in real life applications)
      6. Ok pillow hands whatever you say (btw you called them pillows, not me)
      7. Lol "filthy casual" lolololol that's the best thing you've said yet, keep going this is hilarious. I'm just telling you the obvious facts that boxing doesn't have a real life application to real life and death combat and you just can't take it.
      8. I think you said it best really "boxing can & will save you in a street fight especially when most people don't train" so it only makes you marginally better than the average joe, sounds super useful! Like I said aspects of it are used in the armed forces, mostly taught how to generate power in strikes.
      9. And finally, you clearly are butthurt and it is beyond hilarious, that I've dismantled each and every "argument" you've come back with, boxing would get you killed on ancient battlefields, but by all means keep going on and on about how it's the best!

    Gladiators barely fought to the death. Time and money were put into them with gladiator schools so they were barely killed and thumbs down did not mean death

    Most gladiators don't die. A gladiator had a 90% chance of living, mainly the slaves or prisoners of war died horribly with unfair odds
