Nolichucky Gorge Kayaking 1800 cfs // Poplar to Blue Ridge Paddling

- We found ourselves at the Nolichucky River for an amazing day of paddling. Mason from Blue Ridge Paddling shuttled us to the put in. We were able to kayak down to our vehicles without the hastle of recovering the shuttle vehicle after the run. Even better, BRP was hosting a food truck on the premises. This made for a well deserved and much enjoyed hamburger upon our arrival at the end of the day. Come along for a beautiful blue bird day on the Noli Gorge!

Got to love your back yard. Great rivers with roads along them. Will sign up with a local trainer this summer, winter is coming shortly.
Indeed Gadgetman!! go for it!
Very cool video, love the music and different camera angles! 🎥 🛶
Thanks GROA!
So cool finally meeting you in person at Town Hall Burger Beer in Chapel Hill.
Likewise James!!
I’m digging the stern cam. Lets us see strokes, boat angle, and lean as you enter rapids. Kinda like being inside Pete’s head. Wait…what am I thinking!
Thanks a ton!
I definitely prefer the different angle. Super cool view since I think you can see size of the rapids better.
Thanks Zach!
Great video! Love the camera from behind angle.
Thanks UDO!
THE STERN CAM, YES! so Great THANK YOU! Did the Lower at 700cfs last year and it was my first experience on the NOLI. It's a beautiful place! And the Blue Ridge Paddling take out is Perfect. My ONLY question, how come you walked you RIGHT past the Catawba White Zombie, and NOBODY is enjoying a BREW with their Burgers? LOL.
I didnt notice!!
Ha, you still have the same truck!
Also like the addition of the stern camera. I will start preparing to brace when there is potential impact from now on.
Old Blue! Ive been driving that truck since I drove it off the lot in early 2004!
On the bucket list
It is a good one!
@@RiverKingsKayak rafted it several times with family, would love to run it in my dagger green boat
What level, looked beefy than when I ran it. Ran like 1000 cfs , more rocks. Way fun river.
Hey Troy! 1800 cfs on the upstream gauge, but with plenty of natural flow on the creeks from overnight and early morning rains, so likely upwards of 2000 cfs in the gorge.
noticed on the Ocoee some one broke a paddle .. if you love the paddle. you. can repair with a Dremel , carbon fiber fabric, and epoxy.. . repaired my. 3 years ago and still using same paddle
nice!
I have to disagree on the stern camera angle. I prefer the first-person POV where you actually feel like you are paddling, rather than just being an observer. I like the stern camera on your camping videos in the long boats, but like the helmet camera for whitewater. Love the Nolichucky.
I hear ya! I like both for different reasons too.
There is something wrong with this video : Both AWSD and the Arrow Keys do not control the boat ?!
Reminds me of that older video when you made it look like a game with a Boss Fight somewhere at the end !!!
Dan @ Headwaters Kayak did some funny game related video too : Maybe you guys should team up and make a Kayak Game ?!
LOL! ^_^
LOL! it really does look that way a bit! We should do that!
Hey Pete, Can you tell me what camera mount and pole you are using on this video? I love the "third person" view in whitewater. Would love to get one of those for my kayaking adventures! Thanks Craig
It is a DIY boom pole mod. All made from hardware store components...I will be doing a video soon.
@@RiverKingsKayak Awesome! Sounds good...Thanks for the reply!
At 6:41 is that a boat friendly boof? I’ve seen that rock the few times I’ve ran Noli but wasn’t sure about it. It’s been around 2k when I’ve been. Looked fine in your vid but idk if you ended up with a big gouge or anything
No, it felt really good. The guys told me about it and they all hit it (cant see in the footage due to the distance). Deana missed it but I hit it pretty good. When I got up on it it looked TERRIBLE but I went on faith LOL. Turned out to really go well. The immediately following boom clip is of the same boof as well (different camera angle). Felt really smooth and launchy with no boat abuse feel or sounds. No gouges or dents etc...But yes, I would never had tried that one without the beta.
@@RiverKingsKayak appreciate it sir. I’ll try to hit this next time I’m up there around those levels
Awesome river! What grade is it? III-IV? Hard to see from the GoPro
Yes, III / IV
