Good information Mark! It's unfortunate you don't have a Walmart. Overall I think Publix is about 20% more expensive than Walmart. Good job

Great info, shoot me a link sometime if you guys ship....good cuts of beef are a bit tough to find down here. The grocery store stuff is mediocre at best, and the few places we have here that advertise "Prime Beef" ....yeah...not so much.

OMG Mark, I shop at Costco and BJ's, and now my wife says lets look at Sam's Club! Well, on a pension I shop for the coupons and discounts on the foods we use, especially when I plan on our 3 Boys and Grandkids will come around!

Besides the chickens, dont be surprised to see a few street people hanging out there
But as for shopping in the Keys, remember that unless things have recently changed, there are no Wallmarts.
Publix has good bargains when they offer the buy one get one free on certain item.
But also remember that there are 8 Publix markets currently in Vero Beach, with several more scheduled to be built.
There is also a Wall Mart super center and a Wall Mart grocery/pharmacy store as well.
Even more important, especially for seniors is the very large Cleveland Clinic Hospital, with lots and lots of doctors of every description.
I was living on Duck Key when the Publix market was built, ditto for the home depot.
We made monthly trips to Homestead and Miami to go to the large discount stores like Cosco, and so did lots of others.
But figure a day out of your life in order to do that, plus a tank of gas, which is always higher in the Keys.
The same thing happens when special medical treatment is required.
As an example, my late wife and i were in the Publix market in Marathon when she turned to me and said that one of her eyes had lost some of its vision.
We just left the cart where it was, went to our car and drove immediately to the Baskin Palmer Eye Hospital in Miami.
It was more than a 2 hour drive, while her condition was worsening
Fortunately they performed lazer surgery within an hour after our arrival and her eye was saved.
So these things need consideration, serious consideration, before seriously thinking about how nice it would be to be Keysy.

Just got back from Marathon. The prices of everything are crazy, I know it's the keys we have been there many times. This will be our last visit, it's too much, we rented through Coco Plum and it was good, but I feel like I'm being taken advantage of. So we won't be back, Marathon is so crowded we won't be missed. We love Publix but at some point you have to move on. The keys will be (if not already) the home of the rich and the rest of us will have to move on.

We are in Marathon about a week out of each month. It is definitely worth it to stock up on meat and other essentials here in Orlando before we head down. We still end up using that Publix much more than we would like.

Prices on non produce items are considerably higher than in Northern NJ. I don’t food shop in Walmart. I was at Costco last night and they had prime primal cuts of NY strip for $11.49 a pound. I could tell you why I think it’s cheaper in certain places but I don’t want to start an argument!😂

Publix is more expensive in general especially with their meat. But they do have a pretty good quality of meat. I also look for the bogo's which are fairly frequent. Walmart is considerably cheaper but is always a zoo unless you go at off peak hours. Not to mention some weirdos at the Walmart I go to 😄

I price checked along with you - Sarasota County Publix. The bread was 49 cents less, the NY Strip - $4 less a pound. You beat us by $1 a pound on the T-bone, $1.50 on the ribs all in all it seems to be a wash

Im originally from NJ. Whenever i visited the keys for a week or so, we'd go food shopping, and always found the prices comparable. Except for the fruit i found was cheaper believe it or not in the Keys. Except apples and pears

Looks about the same as here in Minnesota.
That's why we go to Costco and Sam's Club. So the trip to Homestead would be worth it once a month for me.
The seafood thing was surprising the last time we were down.
Cost me $168 for some hogfish, crab claws and shrimp. Oh there was some grouper too.

The prices here are cheaper at Walmart. I would go with the quality of the meat at Publix. We get are meat from butcher shops. I would say it's probably about the same in Minneapolis MN at Publix. We don't have Publix in central Minnesota. Just plain expensive everywhere. Thanks for bringing us along.

We just spent a week and a half in marathon and shopped at the Publix quite frequently. It is a very nice grocery store but the prices are very high. I wish you would’ve looked at the English cucumbers. They were $4.99 for one of those long skinny cucumbers. In Michigan, where we are from, they are $1.69 each when not on sale. Eggs and Milk were also much higher. I guess that’s the price you pay when visiting that awesome Key. I’m sure we will return in spite of the high costs.

Prices aren’t much different on Eastern Long Island-Beef has become a rich man’s treat because cattle ranchers are getting killed on fuel and feed costs.that being said,it’s all still ridiculous and unnecessary.Bottomline-when you make fuel cost more than it has to-EVERYTHING we purchase is effected.Until that gets fixed the only way forward is gonna be even higher prices.

I work at Publix in Foley Alabama 7 miles North of Gulf Shores and what your showing about 10 percent higher then what our prices are. Only difference is but one get one in Alabama if you only want one you get it about half price. Not long me a hat in Flordia.

I live in Oregon, along the coast. Those prices were really high. We wait for sales. We can get bacon 3.00# potatoes under a dollar. When beef is a good price less than 4.00 we have it ground. Cheaper than hamburg.

Winn Dixie has lower prices on meat, and Publix is lower for dairy products. We head North to the Villages in the summer and have two Publix and a neighborhood Walmart within two miles of our home. You can guess where we do most of our shopping.

Thanks for the video. I live in Orange County, California most of the year but spend part of my winters in Florida and I can tell you that groceries here in California at places like Ralph's (Kroger) or Stater Bros are at least 20% cheaper than most of the prices you showed at Publix. To give you an idea, I just bought tri-tip on sale this morning at Ralph's for $5/pound (regular price is usually $8/pound). Fillet Mignon is $29/pound regular price. Atlantic Salmon $10 or 11 per pound. A gallon of milk is $3.89 (I just bought it today on sale for $2.99)
However, eating out here in California is just as expensive as it is in the FL keys. And of course, places like San Francisco are definitely more expensive. Thanks again for your informative videos. Can't wait to go back to the keys next January. Cheers!
