Mr. Whitacre, I am a medical malpractice attorney in Boise, and I read things like the text that was sung here quite often. However, before I was an attorney, I was a music major, and so I am always listening to music while I read and write. In my spare time, I compose piano and choral music. I have been listening to Voces8 recently (their rendition of "A Boy and a Girl" is one of the most sublime things I have ever heard, right up there with "The Lake Isle" by Gjeilo). Somehow I landed on their rendition of the first movement of "The Sacred Veil". After listening to it repeatedly, I went and listened to the whole thing.
Rarely in my life have I been so affected by something. When I heard the sixth movement, I had to stop working. It is the most chilling, most horrific, most beautiful piece of music. This piece conveys terror in a way that I simply have never experienced, even though it is just a medical record. It is beyond "Night Chorus" from Death of Klinghoffer. It is what Different Trains wishes it could be. The only other piece I have listened to that gives me shivers the way this does is a portion of Mendelssohn's Elijah.
Thank you. The world is better because your music is in it. If I could convince the Boise Master Chorale to sing this just so I could have a chance to perform it once in my life, I would do what I could to make that happen. Thank you.

Love all of the deep dives and how you express your own feelings, Eric. The collaboration with Tony is exquisite!
