Looks like a copy of my Boker Urban Trapper. And while I carried it to work wearing a suit every day (it was my fruit knife), I’ve been working from home since COVID began. It IS the ultimate letter opener. RAZOR SHARP via my Wicked Edge Pro 3 sharpener. :-) So, yes. Wicked letter opener. But so worth it.
Yep, I liked the original thumb stud version, but when I saw the flipper I knew I had to have one. No regrets, with an even more discreet clip, it doesn’t shout ‘knife’… I describe it to my work colleagues as a ‘sharp letter opener’ although it does do more.
I had my doubts. Got one for Christmas its light as a feather razor sharp after a ceramic run. Cuts through meat like a kitchen knife through a soft boiled egg.... could be faster on opening. Thanks for the review very detailed.

It is awesome coincidence that you compare CEO to Kwaiken - my first, favourite and only knife yet, so it made proportions very clear to me and... my new knife will arrive tomorrow!))
Great job! I just picked one up today for the flickability fun of it! I don’t care at all about quality steals myself in this knife as I realize it won’t do much more than open letters and cut thread when I’m at work. I have expensive weekend knives that I use for more challenging tasks. It’s the kind of knife I only wanted to pay the $38 that I paid for it!😄

Cant open using index fingertip but after a little practice and callous building, can consistently flick it open between index first and second knuckle.
I’m curious. I just bought the flipper CEO and I have no issue opening it. Is this something CRKT addressed since you put this vid out? Because I think it’s one of the easiest flippers I have to open
The QC is hit or miss. One subscriber just got one and the action was great straight out of the box. Another had the same issue as me. It would be awesome if they released an S35VN marbled carbon model with a clean action. 🙏
@@ThunderbirdBlades I recon that little s35 beauty would fly off the shelves, no problem. I have the thumb stud version and it was fine OOTB, didn't stop me stripping it down and giving it some finesse. Opens and shuts beautifully now.
@@ThunderbirdBlades CEO flipper arrived, you were right, very difficult to deploy. Not a problem as I always strip down a new knife to lube it up. Detent was relatively easy to adjust.
I don’t have a video but I can describe the process - it’s pretty easy. First you’ll need to disassemble the knife - you’ll need T8 Torx bits for the screws and pivot. Once apart, bend the lock bar back a little towards the liner - be gentle you don’t want to over do it and damage the lock bar. Secondly, clean and lube the IKBS bearings. Mine were bone dry ... the lube really helped. Reassemble and hopefully it flips better. One thing I’ve come to learn since living with the knife is that you need to flip it a certain way. Place the tip of your index finger in front of the flipper tab and drag it backwards applying pressure on the top of the scale. Do not place the tip of you finger on top of the tab and press down, it’s harder to actuate that way. I hope this helps ... good luck.
Meh I had one sitting on my computer desk and my Son liked it so I gave it to him. The knife is more of a fidget toy than anything else, it's so small, thin and weak it's good for opening mail?
Trouble is, once you disassemble and then alter (bend) a component, you immediately void any warranty/guarantee. Not woth the risk, plus it ain cheap :(
I used to love collecting various antique and collectable pocket knives, but British law makes it illegal to carry anything bigger than a tooth pick nowadays and it can't even lock open. It won't be long before the Tory's consider kitchen knives too dangerous to own and ban those too.
Not to be a steel snob, but AUS 8 is too soft for the base blade that I will buy. BHQ though has a D2/Green micarta version that I am jonesin on, not to mention an S35VN version. Yummy. But its 100.00 more than the basiqcCEO.
Steel snob 😝😉 I’ve been eyeing that sweet S35VN and marbled carbon CEO but it’s only available on the thumb stud version on not the flipper 😥 it does look yummy.
Yes, I stripped it and lubed the IKBS but I also bent the lock bar back a little to take the pressure off the detent. If you decided to do it go easy on the bar and apply pressure incrementally. I have had a few folks reach out with the same issue and this approach seems to work.
One thing I forgot to mention. Having lived with the knife for a few months, I’ve discovered that it likes to be opened by placing your finger in front of the flipper tab and then dragging your finger backwards rather than placing the tip on top of the tab and pressing down - hope that helps.
Bought a crkt multi-tool one time, very first time I used the pliers, they broke on some fairly light work. That’s my first and last purchase from crkt.
Is it legal to use the thumb stud version for the uk, even if it’s for home use I don’t know if I’m able to buy it online I wanna make sure it’s not illegal first
Felipe - you’ll need to disassemble the knife to get at the liners. When that’s done, gently pull the lock bar back towards the the liner so that it doesn’t stick out as much as it did originally. Go easy on the lock bar, you don’t want to over cook it. It may take few goes to find the right tension. Also check the bearings and lube if needed. My bearings were bone dry. Reassemble and you should be good to go. Let me know how it works out ... best of luck. ✌️

Let's face it. This thing will spend 99% of it's functional time as a letter opener. The other 1% will be cleaning fingernails.
