I don't know how one of these dogs ended up in a dog rescue in Sandpoint, Idaho, but I adopted him there. He lived with me till he died last spring. I didn't know what he was till I saw this video. I loved him so much. Best dog I ever had. He took great care of me since we had no sheep. Wish I could get another, but they are not common in the U. S. I miss him every day even though I now have a Great Pyrenees/Komador who is lovey and good.

Caucasian dog must be treated as member of the family. These dogs will not bring the ball, will not fuck clothes, they will not even eat if you say so, EXTREMELY loyal to family, loves children. There is lot of facts when dog was starving till death after his owner was dead. Dogs were guarding house until death, dogs were starving over the graves. I mean that this dog just loves his family and it is impossible for him not to protect them in any situation.
Very true...a Caucasian ovcharka is not a dog for the "casual" dog owner...they require a firm hand and a definite pecking order with work to do, lest they become restless...this is true of most dogs...a busy dog is a happy dog...a bored dog is a chewed up couch...and with a caucasian, or a kangol, or any other large breed, you, as a dog owner, are responsible for a large, very powerful, and possible very dangerous animal...consider very carefully when selecting such a dog...are you being fair to your new companion?

Beautiful dogs. I love the way their colours blend with the rocks and mountains. These are the correct types, light but powerful, big boned and tall and can run like the wind. The heavier bear types you get in Russia and at dog shows are not correct, they are too heavy and useless at running down a wolf or guarding sheep, they also suffer from bad hips and early death. These make lovely guardian dogs but dont expect obedience, they work by instinct not command. They are delightful around children and not dog aggressive, getting on well with each other but can be very wary of strange dogs and people.
Brian Loopy the heavier types are called mountain types. Steppe types are leaner. It all depends on breeding like always. I’ll get one from Georgia just to be safe :)

This is a myth that you get two kinds. It's a myth perpetuated by kennel clubs. The breed itself is though extremely variable and shouldn't conform to any strict breed standard imposed on it. Loosely they all look of a kind or type. The only standard is it's suitability for being a guardian and this is how they should be selected and bred not for head measurements or weight. Heaviness was never desirable in the working dog where ever it was found in the mountains or on the steppes, whatever it was acting as a deterrent against be it bear or wolf. in fact working mountain country the dogs need to be even more athletic. Rather power and athleticism combined in a big boned frame is the ideal. As big and rangy as they are they aren't mastiffs. Mastiffs have a completely different lineage in the domestic dog world.
This dog breed "Nagazi" both long haired and short haired "Kosa" , is like another animal apart from dog. its like another Canis breed not a dog or a wolf or other. with its characteristics its unique animal. its a fighter wrestler, warrior, guard dog, very honorable characteristics very brave, kind, faithfull, serious, smart, proud, beautiful.

....I've been watching videos with subtitles since I was a child in Kindergarten. In 41 years of watching every type of media known to man, with subtitles, I have never experienced anything like this. Moschitta Jr would have a hard time with this one 😆
Beautiful film I will show it to my dogs via and sir Lancelot (cats are called merlin and arther ) he is our body guard and might be a hero one day if needed. I'm certain that if we get invaded by wolves (or bears,)or even burglers we will be safe ( I live in the midlands UK). Please can you do more films . xx

You want a sweet, fluffy dog, get a Maltese or a Cocker Spaniel. But do yourself and these dogs a favor and don't get a Caucasian.
These fellas can grow incredibly tall and they look like lions. I have no doubt they can take a wolf.
These dogs can grow to be twice the size of a wolf. Wolves on average get anywhere to 80-100lbs. These guys get up to 200lbs.
What an intellect these breed have!!!!
