- With the introduction of Performance Max, the 90-day guideline for a campaign to be fully optimized no longer applies (in most cases). Kasim shares how long it takes for your Performance Max campaigns to start working, and what you should and shouldn't do before the learning phase.
The 90-day guideline meant that we would typically have enough data to know whether or not the campaign would work long term.
While there are inconsistencies with Google's statements on how long it takes for PMax campaigns to work, Kasim shares the official slides from Google with the information, backed up by our experience in running and studying numerous PMax campaigns.
Hopefully, this video will help you set expectations when running new Performance Max campaigns and will reduce losses from making edits on your campaign prematurely even before the learning phase is completed.

I'm kind of relieved to hear this as almost any of the PMAX campaigns I've been working with have either kicked off immediately or confounding me on the length of time before getting any consistent results. The challenge is having the budget for many people to keep going for the length of time this campaign structure requires. Loving the videos and insights!
Awesome video Kasim! I started one last Saturday and it took about two days to start spending and on day three it started hauling in sales and is my best performer so far. Still no real insights yet, but all the numbers look great so far.
You know it's good content when I watch it to the end. Thank you for this video because as a Social Worker in private practice who is passionate about local small business or just entrepreneurship overall, learning about things like performance max ads which is far left field for us in the mental health care industry, is daunting but refreshing when someone like you tells us like it is and we can realistically know how much we need to invest in our private practice marketing over how long a period. Kasim, good/accurate video. After 4 months of failing miserably at Performance Max and in possession of the battle scars to prove it, I agree with everything you say, from bitter personal experience. I am barely getting 50% of the ROAS needed to break even. I'm throwing in the towel and going back to Standard Shopping. When Google makes this a more mature product, I'll try again to reintroduce it slowly.

Great video, reminds me that I need to be more patient with google ads sometimes. I launched my pmax campaign about a month ago and saw a few conversions week 1. Since then I have gotten ZERO conversions on pmax, any idea why this would occur? Did i try to scale too quickly by doubling the budget after 2 weeks?
Hi, i have very high variations in the Traffic quality. Some Days the visitor stay for 14 sec in average and the next day they stay for 2 minutes. Also with the bounce rate. Some days its 90% and some its 50%. Is that normal?
Should we increase budgets, change roas when Google "recommends" it?
What do you think the AI will do with a seasonal product? I'm afraid it see good sales in the busy season and then flood the internet with ad dollars once the season has passed. Can we trust Performance Max for a seasonal product?
Are there any adjustments you can make to the campaign during this learning period? If you swap out low performing images/headlines does it completely restart the clock?

I think its still hard to evaluate PMAX when the reporting on it is terrible. I do think it's going to be a harder sell to say we are going to charge you $1500 a month to watch it for 90 days. I could see a savy company paying you a build out fee. Running it themselves for 90 days and then approaching you after 90 days to evaluate it.
